Random NASCAR Stuff to talk about.....

I'll be out of town for a Dwight Yoakam concert this weekend. I'm recording the race so I'll breeze right past those crappy commercials when I get home :D
(Prolly breeze past some of the snoozy green flag runs, too)

I hope to see Dwight in Council Bluffs this fall.

David Hill leaving Fox Sports. Not sure what all this could end up meaning to NASCAR on FOX but it's bound to have an impact.

Story here.

Todd Berrier has left his role as general manager at JTG/Daugherty Racing to become crew chief for Furniture Row Racing and driver Regan Smith.

Maybe a head start on working on where they wanna be in 2013? Just speculation but that's what I thought reading this. They want to expand the operation there and this may be part of getting the people they want.

I only went back nine years because that's the only data that I could find but the attendance @ Indy was reported to be 300,000 on August 3rd, 2003. Last year 138,000. My how times have changed.

Potential for extreme heat+boring racing+obstructed views+gas prices+declining interest in NASCAR+tire debacle=drastic attendance decline. But still, 138,000 is a big crowd.

That's how I remember it, but people don't remember because Menard won it on fuel mileage.

I'm hoping for tight racing all day and tire strategy (passing) deciding the race at the end.

Good luck with that, my prediction is of long drawn out green flag runs, with the race being won on track position due to fastest pit stops. This will be a typical snoozefest of a race, would much rather see the Cups guys race IRP.

Flashback to a few months ago..... Somewhere in the boardroom @ the Indianapolis Motor Speedway..... A rather large man sitting at the end of the boardroom table is fielding ideas for the sponsor of the upcoming Brickyard 400 race and this is what he decides on..... "Crown Royal Presents the Curtiss Shaver 400 at the Brickyard Powered by BigMachineRecords.com" Seriously? I'm sure that they could have added some more sponsors in there. Don't you think? The Brickyard 400 seems so long ago.

A little background on Curtiss Shaver.....

Curtiss Shaver is an Alabama firefighter. Lost left leg in farming accident, was inspired to help others, joined same dept. that aided him.

But still, 138,000 is a big crowd.
True enough but that crowd in a place that seats 300,000 + kinda makes it look like.....

The racing at INDY was interesting for a while. But last year, when I saw Tony Stewart's in-car camera shot of him taking BOTH hands off of the wheel while going down the back stretch, I decided that this race may have run it's course.

Agreed!

On the road guys and gals, check in up in north Al.

Do send pics and info! Have a good time! I hope the race is an exciting one for you - and for us all!

Funny thing , everybody seems to know it's going to be a boring race , but nobody knows who is going to win .

A 57% jump for ESPN ratings at Chicagoland: From a 1.4 to a 2.2. Last year's race, Saturday night; this year, Sunday afternoon. #nascar

That's not the tracks fault. Tony is just so talented his skill alone drives the car with no hands.
