Random NASCAR Stuff to talk about.....

I love this series! I've seen this race a couple times here in the states. Last year the telecast (and DW's visit along with Mike Joy) was highly promoted by FOX.

If I can locate it, I too will record it! Thanks for the heads up, OZZ!!

No worries.

Should be a good event being the 50th.

We've been pondering over these pipes.
There not running with these surely ????????????

From this article, "At last, Quiroga can turn his attention to the track"

This week, his concerns are directly related to the task at hand. Ren, also KBM's general manager, said Quiroga "has watched and watched and watched" film of the most recent Talladega truck race in an attempt to learn as much as he can. Last season, he traveled to several races just to listen to Kyle and Kurt Busch over the radio, trying to hone his communication skills. His two starts last season -- the best of which was a 16th-place result in his debut at Loudon -- taught him the value of qualifying and not riding behind one truck for too long.

Good luck on learning communication skills from those two, what the hell were they thinking.

Actually, aside from the abuse these two bestow upon their teams at times, they do do a great job of communicating exactly how their cars are reacting to the current track conditions. Especially Kyle.

I have listened to Race Buddy on Pee Wee's channel and I have been repeatedly impressed with the detail level of his feedback.

He can go from great communicator to flaming azzhole in a heartbeat but along with maybe Jimmie Johnson, Kyle is among the best at providing accurate feedback!

There you go bringing facts and logic. You must enjoy abuse.

So that's how JJ finished 17th.
Yes, and somehow he finished 3 positions in front of Jr. riding on the side of Jr's car. ;)

I thought this was interesting. Looking back @ Johnson's restrictor plate finishes this year he had a Daytona DNF, a Talladega DNF, & another Daytona DNF. Seeing as he rode back to the garage on the side of Jr's car how did he not get a DNF for this race? I had to have missed something. I've got to go back and watch the finish again. I do see that they did score him on the lead lap at the end so I'm guessing that he must have crossed the start/finish line and then not be able to get going?

I didn't see it, but that's what JJ said. He kept it rolling and probably blew the engine grinding it across the line. I watched that video 10 to 12 times, focusing on someone different. There's some real 'damn lucky' moments in there.

Regan Smith was the most impressive. He got slammed into another car and was the meat in a 3 wide wall sandwich right in the middle of that mess. He stayed on the throttle and somehow drove away while dodging 3 spinning cars by inches. Top 10.

Denny and Newman were at the back in about 30th, along with Kvapil, who finished 8th. Newman checkup up and waited for the mess to clear, which seemed to take 3 or 4 seconds, then drove thru for a 9th. Denny, who was about 3 carlengths behind Newman when the mess started, stood on the brakes and spun himself off the track and stalled the car. He had more time to react properly than Newman did had he not panicked. It was funny listening to Denny describe his calm and cool move after the race, which had no basis in reality. He even mentioned how he maintained pace. Without the wreck, he was about 25th but got a generous 17th. If he hadn't panicked, he would have been top 10 with Newman and Kvapil.

Keselowski got damn lucky. He was running around 20th when the wreck happened. He did a great job staying off Kyle by anticipating the wreck and moving down to the apron. He then slowed for an opening to get by. Just as Jr came down, Kez moved down toward the grass, which was the wrong move. LaBonte, for some unknown reason, had gotten down by the grass inside Kez and hit the gas and ran into the side of the #2, pushing him up the track and avoiding a T-bone of Jr. and probably ending up with a 12th or 13th. He was 4th when the yellow came out and still doing about 80 mph, but nascar said he was sliding sideways so that speed didn't count toward maintaing pace, which reporters had never heard before. Brad got a 7th and he really didn't care about the 3 positions.

Best I can guess, JJ was running around 20th too, so he about broke even in the wreck. Kez seemed to gain 13 points vs his video running position, while Denny gained about the same. We probably missed out on a 5 way race to the Cup, but we're lucky to still have a 2.5 way race, but it would have been great to have Clint and Kasey in it too.

Watched the replay. Biffle and Kez had some very close calls.

Watch the 78. Smith made some cool moves and squeeked thru while JJ alongside him just couldn't squeek by. Then Regan just avoids getting t-boned by LaBonte and finishes 4th. Kez got damn lucky Labonte pushed him up the track and around Jr.

All the media talking heads are saying the wreck didn't affect the top 3 points much, but I think it did. JJ and Kez would be close to tied, and Denny would be 40 points back.

With 6 races to go, I suspect there are still a few crashed yet to happen which will have an impact in the points.

I am betting $3 on Jamie Mac.

I was watching JJ's DirecTv feed during the race and after the big wreck he did drive it across the start finish line. He was below they double yellow line but he did cross the start/finish line. He had an oil fire going when he stopped the car so that is why Jr. gave him the ride back.

His spotter Earl was not a happy camper there at the end.

I wouldn't put it past Fender to have created an imaginary Keselowski buddy. Think about it, where's Fender been since our new members arrival? I'm just sayin. ;)
You'r right, he does do that, sometimes a buddy sometimes an opponent.
