RATE THE RACE: Boring Kentucky

What DaleJr thought about the track---

.@jeff_gluck if I didn't close my eyes over the big stuff they would start spinning like a slot machine.

I will give the race a 6. Fans must have anticipated a poor race as the stands were pretty empty. :)

For every 60 seconds of racing there was 27 seconds of commercial. Factor in dead air where the screen is frozen before and after the commercials and I bet it was closer to 30 seconds or 50% of the raced was missed.

It's almost getting to the point of being unwatchable. If we're lucky, we'll get to see 200 miles of the Coke Zero 400 on Saturday Night.

And there's a question as to why TV viewership is down?

Here's a screenshot of the race with commercials cut with VideoReDo. This was started as they came back after the prerace to when they signed off. On the right you can see the time spent at commercial.

Really couldn't care less about the commercials. I have 2 RaceViews with scanner, and I am so into the race that I am spent afterwards--never miss a thing. TV is 1/3 of my intake. So damn much fun. Love it. I was shaking last night after it ended--and my guy and manufacturer lost.

Great race last night. Think about it.....Kez dominated practice and qualifying. Everything is set for an ass kicking. Rain. Green track. Team has to adjust. He dominated, but Kyle was the second best car, and damn near stole it. One of the things that I was twisted up to see was whether or not my TRD boys made any gains. Kyle had spoken of a new engine package and a brand new car. Bottom line--My guys don't improve, and the year would be lost IMO. They improved. Another storyline was the Hendrick boys--they were strong again. Amazing. Jr. needs to quit bitching about he bumps. Did the same thing in Fontana. Learned a bit there--Jr. prefers a smoother surface.

My point....there is so much to watch and to think about. I don't believe I have ever seen a boring race because this is the way my mind works. I mean crap, I didn't even mention the difference between the Penske Ford camp and the Roush's. It goes on and on, and it is freakin' awesome. Add to all of that---TNT is giving me a piece of the technical side that I have been longing for. Larry Mac and Jason talking set ups, and then the Camry Cam--I could watch that suspension all day! Freakin' awesome!

I am gushing about all of this, and remember, my teams are struggling--but in all of that, there is something to look forward to......and then, Daytona baby!!!!!! Maybe it's not what you watch, but how you watch?

Race: 4

Winner: 8, love Keselowski

TNT: go home, you're drunk!

Damn lots of low ratings here. It wasn't the greatest race but it was better than the Texas race and any plate racing

I'll go with a 5.

Off topic - sorry - but to get some forum visibility - good racing at Watkins Glenn on FS1 now (the old Speed channel) 2 hours into a 6 hour race - surprising amount of action and the announcers just say stuff once ;)

Kentucky might not be a bad track but we can't tell when the Aero package still has work to be done.

The commercials weren't TNT's only problem. The entire broadcast was Amateur Hour.

You ever notice how the zoom transitions in the booth are like an 8th grader shot it? I agree. What's weird, however, is that the HD quality is better in my area than Fox. Go figure.

For me , all races are 10's . I look forward to each and every one . Any Nascar race beats any golf or soccor game every time . I feel sad for fans who sit and endure Nascar races while not enjoying them . Must be a strange way to live . I can't imagine me watching a soccor game and complaining about it .

I gave it a 7 because there was some good racing going on but TNT was to busy making money to totally enjoy it. That's why I love the race-day threads, I can watch, read and listen to different POV's during the race. Good stuff for me.

10. Great pre-race with the Camry Test Car--Finally talking set ups with Jason Ratcliff. We have gotten more technical discussion in 4 races with TNT as we did with 1/2 a season with Fox. Kez and Joey were awesome. JGR back in the game. Hendrick its usual self--those boys sure don't like bumps. Enjoyed all of it. Seriously. Can't wait for Daytona.
Good point, the prerace stuff is actually pretty good.

I guess I'm weird. I spend a lot of time yelling at the tv.. It's probably taking years away but at this point I just don't give a crap. :p

You could try watching soccor . It's likely no worse and you wouldn't get upset. Just think , no yelling. :)

No Yelling unless by chance one team actually scores then you might wanna mute the sound for 30 seconds or so. SCOOOOOOOOOORE!!!!!!!

Not all of us have RaceView and all that stuff. I don't want to have to sit in front of a computer to know what's going on in the race on my TV. I don't have to sit in front of a computer to keep up with everything going on in the football games, baseball games, hockey games or even during IndyCar races. NASCAR is THE ONLY PROFESSIONAL SPORT IN AMERICA that has this problem.

I've said before that I enjoy the commentary crew on TNT. The races are close to unwatchable though on TNT because of commercials and crappy production.

OMG Andy . All the other sports have time outs for commercials . Is that what you want ? Please !

Not every event is a classic, and that goes for all sports.

Very true. Look at last year's Super Bowl for example. I love the NFL and was rooting for the Seahawks, but that game sucked ass.
You're a Titans fan, I pull for the Bucs and Giants...I'm sure we both know all about crappy football.

This is not a problem--this is the dynamic nature of the sport. More than one story going on at all times. I don't have to have a computer to keep up with the race. I choose it because I have specific things I want to know. I knew that Kyle was going to be passed because Kez was catching him at 2/10ths per lap. Then, Kez managed the gap to bring the 2 home. A subtlety of the sport I appreciate. I loved watching Kyle scream past cars all night long. Football, baseball, basketball, hockey, and for sure IndyCar just ain't that deep IMO. Happy to have the technology to see all of the action. The winner is only part of the story. For example, watching the lap times of my TRD boys relative to the heavy hitters, I woke up this morning feeling like a win. Not saying you are wrong, just saying that there are various ways to enjoy this sport.

"IndyCar just ain't that deep" - yes, it is. You're letting your personal preference for TNT's coverage get in the way here. TNT misses A LOT of stuff. Stuff that, honestly, FOX and ESPN would not miss. They miss race changing events every race they cover. In fact, they usually miss every single caution, lead change and so on. As for IndyCar, there are several things going on at once and you know about it watching the telecast, not because "IndyCar just ain't that deep" but because NBC Sports gives a **** and want to be there (unlike FOX and TNT) and go out of their way to deliver television coverage fans deserve.
