Rate The Race: Daytona 2

You are aware NBC's coverage is literally the same as TNT's coverage.
Its same as FOX, NBC and FOX are both using Game Creek Video, but you are correct about TNT , they used Game Creek as well.

TNT's coverage was fine. NBC's coverage is fine. Fox's coverage of Cup is fine with the exception of Jaws.

The only broadcasts that are really not very good are ABC's IndyCar broadcasts and FS1's Truck Series broadcasts. The Indianapolis 500 is the worst telecast in all of sports and has been for several years now. Of course, ABC just doesn't give a **** anymore and is waiting to unload the Indy 500 on NBC's doorstep.

Yep, and it was just as bad. It wasn't just too many commercials either. Couldn't hear the announcers for half the race over the engine noise. You would think that would be a good thing, but it was just an annoying mumbling over the sounds of the engines. Kept getting promised that if something happened during commercial they would break away and come back to the broadcast, except for when Tony Stewart blows a tire. While the number of commercials is one thing, cutting away with 15 to go after the racing was finally getting good was ****** annoying as hell. That was when Tony hit the wall. Could have had an awesome call by Allen there, but they were away at commercial. While I like Rick Allen he was not in mid season form tonight. He kept stumbling over his words. After Brad won they spent too much time talking while following him around the track on his way to victory lane. They could have used that time to interview other drivers, instead the result was just Brad's interview on the NBC broadcast. You had to go to NBCSN to get any other reaction from other drivers. Sucks for those who don't have NBCSN. Lack of coverage of the Kurt/Joey altercation on the NBC broadcast, again had to switch over to NBCSN. That is just some of the issues, wasn't all commercials that killed the broadcast tonight.

I have to agree with this , for the most part, I like jaws, but he did show this year that he is past his shelf live for TV many times this years, and some of the ass kissing of certain drivers got old a long time ago.

So I must of miss you complaining last weekend when FOX Sports did the same thing with Tony?, can you point it out to me? , and they spent more time following Tony around than they did Brad, but before you say it, I know, it was Tony winning, so its ok.

I will agree with you that they dropped the ball big time not showing any replays on the Joey/Kurt incident, for the most part, they just ignored it outside of interviewing Kurt, that was bad.

Nothing happened in that race. I saw "The Big One" live and something else happened in "NASCAR Nonstop" (which doesn't work on NBC Live Extra, but that's my own fault for living in a remote area in a **** TV market with **** TV affiliates).

While the number of commercials is one thing, cutting away with 15 to go after the racing was finally getting good was ******* annoying as hell.

Nothing about plate racing is good, but that's beside the point. Commercials with less than 15 to go is nothing new. Again, go back and watch older broadcasts. VERSUS went to commercial with three laps to go in an IndyCar race once.

While I like Rick Allen he was not in mid season form tonight. He kept stumbling over his words.

I announce races at my local track, some nights I'm on it. Calls of races aren't gonna be legendary when the race is ****** dreadful. And the race, what I saw of it behind the commercials, was just terrible. Only part that kept me in suspense was when the caution would come out to send us to "Overtime" and when the traditional race ending caution would come out. These races are legitimately bad races. And the only reason we still have them is because "casual sports fans" tune in for plate races to see crashes -- except even they don't tune in to these ****shows anymore. Restrictor plate racing sucks, and television coverage isn't gonna change that.

You had to go to NBCSN to get any other reaction from other drivers. Sucks for those who don't have NBCSN.

Boo hoo hoo hoo hoo.

I remember a time when there wasn't any pre-race coverage or post-race coverage. 20 years ago, ESPN would dump out of races entirely and air them days later if they went past a certain timeslot. Not too long ago, ESPN was dumping out of races without even showing results or interviewing the winner and ABC was moving races to ESPN2 in the closing laps. And don't even get me started on the time an IndyCar race started on ESPN2, moved to ABC and ended on ESPN. Three ****** times I had to change ****** channels to watch one ****** race.

So boo hoo, no postrace coverage on broadcast. I don't watch pre-race or post-race anyway.

So , I went back and timed it, and I am going to be using my DVR's record time for this
At the 3 hour and 9 minute mark, the checkered flag was thrown, they showed Brad till just past the 3 hour , and 13 minute mark.
From 313 to 314, was a commercial break
314-to 316 they showed the points
316 to 318 it was Brads victory lane interview

So the TLDR, they spent 4 minutes showing Brad K doing his post race celebration

Everyone has forgotten that last year, when NBC has a ton of postrace coverage, the race ended at like 3am and NBC could stay on until First Look came on if they wanted to. Can't imagine local stations would've stuck around for 20 minutes of postrace coverage tonight.

to naysayers......guess ya'll will have same negative message at kentucky . ???
due ta :headbang:maybe ?? ha!

" ain't never good enuff " ......is a " loser attitude " .

but carry on ..............................:katts:

The Kentucky race will also probably suck because of the repave and it being a night race.

Yeah, they could of stay on for another 20 minutes, in my market, following the race, was video game basketballo_Oo_Oo_Oo_Oo_Oo_Oo_Oo_O

Except that Fox also interviewed other drivers as well, especially Hamlin's reaction. If Fox did what NBC did tonight you wouldn't have heard Hamlin until the post race show.

4 minutes is actually a long time. A driver's average post race interview is probably less than 30 seconds. They could probably interviewed 2-3 drivers in that 4 minutes and had time to discuss Kurt/Joey.

Plate races are like pornography. They titillate with the illusion of good racing, while they actually are something altogether different. A guilty pleasure, something shallow, and not what you'd take home to meet your Mom. And yet, the intensity is compelling. You can't look away. If you're there when its on, your eyes are glued to the action.

As plate races go, this one stands as the "Deep Throat" of the genre, with non-stop action and a masterful performance by Kez against several very strong competitors. One of the best plate races I have seen. My rating: 8.5.

[PS: I'd rate the NBC broadcast lower, maybe 5.0, but IMO that is a topic for another thread.]

I recall saying I'll never give a plate race anything higher than a 6. I'm giving this one a 4. The long green run was okay, but it deteriorated into the inevitable series of wrecks, cautions, and 'overtime'.

As to the broadcast, the 'only' major problem with it was the number of commercials. I didn't have to listen to Jaws' jumping to conclusions based on his out of date experience. No Dale Jr in-car 'Reports'. No commercial 'bumpers' featuring drivers mugging for the cameras.

My memory (and we all know what it's worth) from last year is that NBC put up a better show. Last night makes me question that recollection, but I'll withhold final judgement for a couple of weeks. And let's acknowledge it: until we get a commercial-free pay-per-view network, we're always going to have to put up with paying the bills.

I'll go 7.

Happily we get the races commercial free here in the UK but we did seem to have a lot of time last night watching without a commentary when the US was on commercials.

It was a typical super speedway race. I've noticed that I start holding my breath during the closing laps waiting to see who can make a move w/o wrecking any body. Lagano managed to take advantage of 4 tires to move up from the middle of the pack but dumping Kurt at the end is going to mess up his karma (I wonder if he knows how pay back works). Kez had them covered.

5.

The "big one" happened early and took out pretty much every driver I was rooting for. Casey Mears was still out there and had several opportunities to make a move for the lead, but he was way too conservative and basically just chose to ride around instead.

The race could have been much better had the big one happened later, or not at all.

I'll give it a 6. The race was pretty good until the big wreck took out half the field. Most of the underdog contenders were victims of this.

Brad had the field covered. Wasn't much anyone could do. Kes is quietly becoming the guy to beat at the plate tracks.

9, night races have more grip. A night pocono or Michigan would be so so much better.

I don't think it is fair for me to rate the race as I just don't like plate racing. I HATE seeing gratuitous wrecks and deleted the broadcast and stopped watching after the last fiasco. God bless all of you that like the plate stuff and I am glad you enjoyed the race. I didn't find out who won until I logged on here lol.

IDK if Kentucky will suck or not but I will tune in to find out. Hopefully it will be a good one as you can never tell anymore.
I'm expecting the worst, but hoping I'm wrong. Dale Jarrett mentioned last night on the post race show that Kentucky will be very fast and just one groove. I presume he is basing that on the recent tire test. Add to that Goodyear's decision to back off the planned tire, due to graining, and bring a more durable tire. Sounds like one of them "clean air is king" deals to me. Hope I'm wrong.
