RATE THE RACE: Daytona II

I must say, this was the most boring race I've seen so far this season until the very end. I'll give the race a very generous 4 (my worst rating yet).

Race- 5
TV- 7
Waltrip in the race- -2
Last two runs - 9

Typical sh!tty wreckfest plate race. I'll give it a 1 simply because it's auto racing and it's slightly better than anything else in the same time slot.

it would have been better if Kane had been loyal to his team and not left Jr. out on his own

Welcome to the forum Harv . Must 've missed the Kahne /Junior thing . Junior didn't mention it in his interview.

Race reminded me of the old Daytona racing we saw when Dale Sr. was racing. I give it an 8.
Also give TNT a solid 8 for the coverage.

Please remind me again why this is better than the tandem racing.

We got rid of Tandem racing because it was crap and unfair that a driver had to rely on one other driver throughout the entire race. It's unfortunate we got something worse in its place. I liked the pack drafting we used to see years ago. This is not the same.

nascar killed both, and they still think nobody knows. I think the drivers are revolting against the crazy rule package by not racing at all until the end.

You probably would have liked it better if Jeff had won.

You probably would have liked it better if Brad had won.

I will say I would have been happier and maybe forgot about the bad racing for a moment if Jeff had won. But it wouldn't have changed my opinion of the actual racing or my thoughts about the racing during the race.

Man, not sure how to rate this.
Hated the tandem racing and longed for the pack racing of old - at first.
But, we got what I longed for and got what we knew was coming all along in today's race.

I suppose the slingshot of racing back when was pretty cool when I first saw it, and I'm not sure I wanna see that in today's NASCAR.
Or, do I?
So, I don't know what to make of these restrictor place tracks. All I know is that we shouldn't bulldoze 'em for the sake of not knowing the answer.
7.

You probably would have liked it if Ronald McDonald won.

I am a Nascar Fan , I do enjoy all of the races . I don't have much time for people who would sit through a whole race , and complain about it the entire time . Doesn't make sense to me .A dumb waste of time in my opinion. :D

If you have no time for people complaining about the races, why do you read the race threads when you know how much of it will take place - granted it's mostly by the same person every week but hopefully you don't take them seriously.

That's what doesn't make sense to me and is also a waste of your time

Please remind me again why tandem racing or the crap we had last night is real racing! I give the the so called race a negative 10. It was horrible, there was one line that could move, the inside, cars would try on the outside and get up to about third or fourth in line and hit a wall of air or something and not be able to advance. Nascar better go back to the drawing board and figure out a new approach. A lot of cars got torn up in the last 15 laps, what I saw was last night was pathetic.

Have to agree, man.
What's your solution?

You know, I like most all the races that are run each week but I don't have a number to rate this race. I think that would show total disrespect to any number out there. That had to be one of the worst races that I've seen @ Daytona in a long time. No offense to Tony fans out there. They had the pack that so many seem to have desired over the tandems but other than Tony's pass at the end, was there even a green flag pass for the lead in this race? Sure as they were going through their pit cycles but there were never any battles for the lead. I'd give Tony's pass a 10+ but other than that. :(

Was that really a race or a 4th of July parade of multi colored cars?
I was under the impression cars should be able to pass one another, fighting for position. Not ride around lap after lap.
CUT that splitter off, chop off half the spoiler, run a safe tire that wears out. Running flat footed lap after lap isn't racing. IMHO of course.

and go to a smaller engine displacement instead of the restrictor plate. Same block, different crank. (thanks magnethead).

Put the racing back into the hands of the crew chiefs for one. Let them tinker with spoiler angle, shocks and suspension components more. Get rid of the plates, it is long over due and atiquated technology. For Dega and Daytona go with a smaller engine package producing less HP, but not restricting throttle response. I seem to remember these cars being able to run 3 wide in packs not so long ago without immediately being unstable. It's very apparent that the smaller spoiler and less cooling idea isn't working. These cars need to be able to get away from each other, be able to sling shot past each other. I used to think to that type of racing was decent, it was far more interesting than what we had last night. There was essentially one lane that was preferred and that just doesn't work at Daytona. I think that there will be a lot of pissed off body guys come tomorrow morning when they see all that torn up equipment at the shops. They want to bring down the costs....well how is tearing up at least half the field in a matter of the last 15 laps doing that? Last night was boring as hell for the first 350 miles then all hell broke loose. I just don't know why this is so difficult to fix, it has to frustrate the drivers, the crews to no end trying to run a plate race. Nascar needs to fix it, Daytona is the show piece of Nascar, you would think by now they would get it through their thick money grubbing heads that this is where the racing should be the best. What gets me is that there are actually fans that thought this racing was good last night. I'm an old fart , been watching Cup for 45 years now, seen a lot of changes, but it is clear to me that Nascar has gone totally in the wrong direction with their attempts at producing good racing on the plate tracks.

Thank goodness TNT is done with their so called 'Broadcasting' for the season. It was like the race were the commercials, and the "Branded content" was the programming....
