Rate The Race: Kansas I

8. Actually not a bad race for a cookie cutter, but there's too many of them.

Ima give it a 9. Bummed Blaney couldn't close it out but it was a barnburner even if there was yellow fever

I really don't want to give a number until we hear how Aric is, but I was entertained

8.5

Best 1.5 miler this year by far.

Prayers for Aric Almirola.

9. Would have been a 10 but I hate to see a driver have to be air lifted out.

I'll give it a legit 9. It was good enough to keep me switching back and forth between the hockey game (which was also great). I haven't been able to watch too many races this year but this was the easily the best I've seen.

that crash was pretty awesome.

I really can't agree with this statement.
Username checks out.
No, it was not

If crashes take away from your experience watching a race then racing probably isnt the best sport to watch. These drivers know the risk involved and that wrecking is apart of racing same as fans should. NASCAR does a great job with safety and these awesome crashes usually end with no harm done but if the is, thats part of the risk involved.

I got to say I find NASCAR fans that dont like wrecks amusing. Like, how are some of these wrecks not entertaining?

No I totally get you. Its awesome when people get injured. Totally awesome.

It can be, no different than football when a player gets hit hard and may be hurt. Aric Almirola knows that could happen to him any time he sets in the car. NASCAR is dangerous and fans should know that wrecks are bound to happen.

While I don't think the accident was "awesome" I do get some of what you're saying. One of the things I mentioned in the "why was Nascar better back in the day" thread was the gladiator aspect of the sport. The risk of injury and the ability to battle through injuries intrigued people. Hockey is the same way. A guy can loose a 2 liter of blood on the ice and be back playing 20 minutes later.

While I hate to see that happen to Aric it's part of the sport and it's what makes it unique. Many of the 80's and 90's generation of drivers embraced the opportunity to display their toughness (for better or worse). That's something that has been lost over the years.

This is subject that really needs to be discussed in the proper context otherwise it will get ugly...

Yeah I hope people are banking on him recovering before you make those statements.

I generally really hate Kansas but outside of Aric's crash I really enjoyed it. I'll give it an 8.5

No rating. For whatever reason, I just couldn't get into this one. Truex and Blaney put on a decent show up front most of the night. There were way too many cautions for my tastes; the race never seemed to develop a flow or pace. I appreciated the reduced emphasis on aero grip, but I was out of the mood long before the three-car pile-up.
