And him being truthful cost him 2 laps. While Kyle, who knows how to play the game, escaped punishment. JPM will need to get smarter if he's ever going to be a player. As someone pointed out that's one reason why he's 700+ points behind. He has to respond to every challenge.
It's not because of how Kyle plays the game. Some of the stuff he's done is no less intentional, deliberate, brash or obvious as Montoya. Simply put, Kyle Busch is the new Junyer. Everything he does, FOX and ESPN will worship. If NASCAR penalizes Kyle for "creating excitement" (as the pundits at Turner Sports owned NASCAR.com put it), the media will revolt.
Shall I remind you of his whole "I'll wreck as many cars as I need to" comment. I can tell, first hand, drivers and crew members (in general) lost a lot of respect for him after that. Now, notice how FOX and ESPN never emphasized that comment. If Juan Pablo had said the same thing, they would've crucified him.
Now, I don't know what the happenings inside the sanctioning body are, but I would hope they set the same standard to Montoya as they did to Kyle and others this year, score him a 2 lap penalty and be done with it.
I did notice, in watching the replays on NASCAR.com, that Wally pointed out that Kyle cross-checked Montoya when he was turned. Wasn't that just as dangerous as JPM spinning Kyle in the first place?
Again, I don't know the happenings inside NASCAR, but I hope they do the right thing and apply the same standard to JPM that they applied to Kurt at Dover and Darlington and to Kyle on countless occassions.
