Rate The Race: Talladega I

6.0 good winner but too much bumping and not enough trackbar car adjustments

9. Reminded me of an early 2000s plate race the way they passed in the pack. Also I know it's awful but that wreck in slow mo was incredible, looked like that Michelin commercial with the ball of junk but in real life

Gimmicks ‘n plates. Tipical (lernt a new werd from a special friend) of ole ‘deger.

DW ruined the broadcast for me.
New winner and how he did it makes me want to give it a 10

Yeah, I did a Hank Kimble from Green Acres on that one as I am waffling more than a politician trying to get re-elected. I think I will just withdraw my rating all together as I just don't think I can be fair. There were some real highlights like seeing a first time winner but I just hate the big wrecks and all the cautions near the end.

I hope you are having good weather as I need to make a brief trip to Nashville and then to the panhandle for a quick stop and then head east.

The weather is ideal.

Never met Dan. Did shop his Beach haberdashery before I retired. Don’t wear that sort of clothing these days. Ain’t been in a while.

looks like a 9 or a 10 from O'Donnell I don't know where the heck they found those young fans at. lol

I would give it a 5. The finish really saved it for me. The race as a whole was incredibly boring for me. I was never one way or another in regards to plate racing, but after yesterday I think I'm starting to dislike it. I like that it is a different style so you have to be able to understand and do it as a driver, but I absolutely hate how much it allows the leader to dictate what happens. For 3 hours yesterday we watched the leaders dive back and forth stalling out charges from their competitors. I don't mind blocking, but I hate how the leader jumping from lane to lane absolutely kills the momentum of another car. Side drafting is awesome because of how unstable the cars are, but it just looked almost impossible to go anywhere. Guys were marred in 20th place for lap upon lap because the lines just would not move.

Again, finish of the race was tremendous and the late dashes for position are great, but it was the first race where I lost a lot of interest in it mid way through this season. I just got tired of seeing guys not moving.

There were some drivers like Jimmie Johnson and Ricky Stenhouse (others too I am sure) that could move up but your point is well taken. I do think that plate racing requires a certain skill set although one much, much easily acquired then what it would take to running Bristol or Darlington successfully. What is dull to me is the same as what you said as cars are dependent on other cars to do anything. In my mind racing is about having a strong car that can pull out and pass instead of going from 3rd place to 38th in a straightaway. I know others feel differently and like that sort of thing.

I've never liked the blocking. Blocking isn't racing. At a slower track that kind of racing would result in the leader being knocked out of the way.

One of the most compelling things about NASCAR Racing is the variation in tracks they have to race on, from 1/2 mile bull rings to 2.66 mile super speedways to road courses that turn left and right. No other form of motorsports has this kind of diversity in testing the overall ability of a Pro Race Car Driver and his abilities to master all and beat the best in the world.
Plus it is an all American sport with 40 bad ass hotrods that put on a show for us 36 point paying races within 52 weeks and numerous other fun shows. I am amazed at how they get this done week end after week end non stop for weeks on end all over the country.
Yes sir, I am a Nascar fan and I like it a lot. :D

One of the better plate races I've seen in awhile. Loved that there were several cars in the mix on the last few laps. 8/10
