No I don't think they will ever get rid of them (my "hippie lettuce" days are too far behind me for that kind of thinking). But, hey a guy can still dream. Can't he?

How many times do I have to say "I AM NOT A FAN OF PLATE RACES"? Geeze Paul!!:D There are four a year.........I just got over it. Some here need to do the same.:D

Everyone hates the restrictor plates.  Let's say they take all those plates and melt them down and donate them to the war effort........how is that going to improve the racing?  Don't you think it will be about the same as it is right now?  A freight train of 43 cars only going about 40mph faster is what I see!:)   The aero thing is not going to go away.  Brakes would be a factor since I doubt any car would stick going into the turns at 230 to 240, even with the high banking.  Fuel would be huge factor since an unrestricted engine is really going to slurp up the gas.  I've heard all the stuff about if the good cars had all their power available they would be able to get away from the lessor cars.......but the plates are all the same size so if they can't get away now, I doubt they could get away without them.!:)   Well, the "big one" would certainly be more spectacular.:(

Well I love restirctor plate races, so not everyone hates them.

I kinda agree that they would more than likely run in big packs even without them. But I think the speeds would still be way to high at those tracks. I saw a replay of the Pepsi 400 today on SPEED. When the big one happened, Joe took a huge hit into the wall, and was kinda scary. If the cars were going 230 to 240 I really think Joe would not be with us today.
I am all for them slowing the cars down with more drag, then taking off the plates, just to see what it does. But untill the cars are safer or the tracks are safer then I say keep them on!!!

Put the driving in the driver's hands.

They wouldn't be going 240 around Daytona because they would be lifting, I don't know where you're getting that number.

hey PettyBEnson...........you saw a replay on speed channel...do they or have they replayed the winston races of 2002? I want to see the california race we went to last year so bad.........:D I'd like to see replays actually of all of them......

They wouldn't be doing 240 around the track.......but they could be doing close to 240 goining into turn 1!! And should someone get upset at that speed it would be spectacular!!:( Plus, someone will inevitably go too deep in the corner before he lifts. But, if they could get something done about keeping the cars down on the pavement on the straight aways, I say let them go.........unrestricted.:)

They still show races around noon on Wensday of the 2002 season. The seem to not be going in any order you might want to just look at speedtv.com to see what races are showing that week. I think they already showed the Cali. race.

Gee i posted the first post without reading the whole thread and boy did I miss a good post. I wish i was here when all this was going on!!

WOW.........THANK YOU...........now i can watch what I missed being at the race last year...........I remember Dale jr crashed right in front of us on turn 4.....when Harvick hit him.....
but just jotted it on my calendar...................thank you again so much!! I owe you one now..........:D :D

yeah, that when Jr got out holding the family jewels and recived that concusion that he raced with the rest of the year.

I thought Harvick blew a tire and was heading for pit road when Jr ran in the side of him.

might have been. I know someone blew a tire and somehow jr ended in the wall at around 165mph

I'm pretty sure Harvick's the one who blew a tire but know I don't know. I'll go find out.

I can picture the wreck in my head I just can't remember who was where. I think your right that harvick is the one who blew the tire. and Jr just boucned right head on into the wall.

All I saw was a big cloud of blue smoke and Harvick spinning.......then I saw Jr's crumpled up mess go spinning in front of me. I guess I was watching JJ or Ryan go by when it happened. Jr impacted the wall about 50 ft to our left.

"Harvick, alone on the track late in Sunday's NAPA Auto Parts 500 at California Speedway, felt the left rear tire on his Chevrolet blow and suddenly became little more than a passenger as the car veered down the banked track.

Dale Earnhardt Jr., racing off the fourth turn at more than 180 mph, slammed into the No. 29 and sent both cars hurtling into the wall. The impact on Earnhardt's No. 8 Chevy was measured at 130 mph by the on-board data recorder. "
