Richmond Raceway reimagined

I wish they had more than that little bitty photo rendition, but it sounds nice. They can do a lot with a 30 million buck remodel I don't think they are re doing the track itself.

Hopefully these changes will draw some younger fans to the track to at least check it out. If there is any dough leftover there are a lot of seats that could use enhancing too.

That's what $30 million buys? I expected more. The garage thing is freakin sweet though -

Looks really good! I like the look of some of these tracks with less seats. It really opens the surrounding area. One thing I miss about the "Old Bristol" is not being able to see Thunder Valley. I'd love for them to eliminate about 40k seats and open up one end of the track.

Everything is great. Viewership, attendance and overall interest is up which can be clearly seen in the record dollar amounts being paid to teams for primary and secondary sponsorships. Established drivers like Kurt Busch, Matt Kenseth and Danica Patrick all have signed lucrative contract extensions for the next few years and charters are trading for millions of dollars due to the well funded new teams that are starting up. Everything is great!

Part of the redesign is to be able for fans to get closer to the action in the garages and other events

Race fans will be able to get closer than ever to NASCAR’s best with new Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series garages and a fan viewing walkway providing full immersion into the sport. Fans will also be able to watch race cars complete their runs through inspection stations in the new infield.
In addition to the new garage walkways and inspection viewing areas, other new attractions include expansive Richmond infield social and engagement areas with concessions. Gatorade Victory Lane will now be staged in closer view of the grandstands for fans to have a better experience celebrating with Richmond race winners. The location will provide new fan engagement opportunities for pre-race access, driver appearances, and entertainment programming.

I'm on the phone ordering tix as I type!!!

They will be driving 5 year old cars soon with band aid patches on the tires. Will the last fan out please close the gate. :D

Nascar has the potential to be a really cool series within 5 years.

This is the way of the future for tracks in that I think instead of the focus on seating, there will be open areas in the infield (or where stands used to be like in the case of Charlotte) where fans can get drinks, food, socialize, or watch drivers/teams work on cars. Pretty much the fan experience will be greater instead of sitting in the stands on a scanner watching the action.

Next year marks the 30 year anniversary of the original Richmond Reimagined. I still remember watching a taped copy (didn't get TBS) of the final fairgrounds race.

It was amazing the rebuilt the track in the short amount of time they did. It will take them over a year just to rebuild the infield.

Good points and spiffing up the infield is a great idea but ensuring there are common areas where the fans can mingle and watch the race is the most important, IMO. Richmond has a boatload of unsold seats as according to Jayski they used to have 110,000 and are now down to 71K and it looks to me as if 40-45K seats would be plenty at present with around 30-35K needed in the next 5 years or so.

Why does the guy in the Fedex 11 shirt have a Lowes Pro Services logo on his shirt? And a Hendrick logo on the back of his cap. Lol random
Hahaha, I noticed the HMS logo on the hat but I didn't want to sound crazy.

Additionally, Victory Lane will be moved from its current location behind the pit wall to within closer view of the track’s main grandstands. That portion of the project calls for a club level for 80 fans with rooftop access for a front-row seat to Victory Lane celebrations.

Why can't tracks just do this on the frontstretch like Martinsville? Especially when NBC does their interviews up there, before a second victory lane interview?

Common areas would be great as would more comfortable seating and better restrooms and concessions facilities. I don't expect facilities to upgrade to the level Daytona has especially when the sport is in decline attendance and ratings wise but some kind of investment in fan amenities would be appreciated.

That's great for some, especially the younger generations. Give me a good seat halfway up into turn one and a scanner and I'm sitting pretty. The stage breaks now give me opportunities to discuss what just happened with seat mates if I so choose.

I like it, but it looks like there is only going to room for one series in the infield at a time, so does the Xfinity Series get kicked out to pit road and pull a Martinsville and their haulers have to park outside of the track like the Truck Series teams do.

They should use the money and add a good balance it of banking to the track.
