Maybe he does need time to age, like a fine wine but he just doesn't impress me at all. Not at all.

Today's world-class drive from Ricky moves him up to 377 points, only 3 points behind Danica and good for 28th in the series. He stretched his lead over Justin Allgaier from 23 to 51 points. Believe.

He has more top tens then Danica and at least he has won championships in something. Lets see how he runs the rest of the year

I agree, the expectations and assumptions people make regarding these drivers is unreal. But Ricky given his record in NW is real struggling in Cup, more so than anyone could have expected. He is very much under the radar as far as fans and media go, so it maybe isn't noticed as much if was another driver. Is it Roush, is it him..who knows..but whatever, it ain't good.
 
he will end up just like david ragan or reutiman in a crappy cup car for an underfunded team BUT STILL in a cup car none the less probably earning a couple million a year for the next 5 years.

Which, at the end of the day, is probably more than , well, every single one of us posting on this forum will ever make combined....it would take a hundred and fifty of me to ever earn that much.

Good or not, he has us all beat in that regard.
 
Numbers found elsewhere:

Carl Edwards has a 7.87% decrease in points right now from this mark in the season last year, Biffle has a 4.77% decrease, Stenhouse has a 20.8% decrease. That's the worst decrease for any full-time driver in the series by far (Bowyer is next at -14.38%).

Roush has regressed, but Stenhouse has managed to do so even worse.

Even last year he did nothing of consequence. I remember at one point he had only 1 top 10 like 20 races in or something. He hung around in points by not having any DNF's. As a whole though Roush has been pitiful, the fact that Edwards has 2 wins is a more a fluke than anything; as both had a lot more to do with caution/pit cycle circumstances than having the best car.

This year Austin Dillon is kind of doing the same thing, points racing and is hanging around in the standings, but has done nothing to show he's competitive and capable of winning races. I think Dillon's only top 10's are at Daytona so far.
 
We will find out next year when Edwards leaves and he gets the best of Roushs crappy equipment. If he doesn't at least win a race or finish top 20 in points he'll either latch on with front row motorsports or go back to nationwide

Last year I thought the guy legitimately had some promise. He had a couple of good streaks from Kansas (he had a good shot at winning this one, too) through Dover in the first half of the year and Watkins Glen through Chicagoland in the second half of the year. Similar to what Dillon is doing this year. His numbers weren't too far off from Biffle's rookie year and I figured he could develop into a similar driver who could win a race or two a year and finish about 10th in the championship on average. He's completely fallen off the map, though.

Austin was massively overrated at the beginning of the year (not his fault) but I think he can develop into another Biffle-type driver.

Yeah it's interesting because they've both come up to Cup at a time when their respective organizations have been on a downswing. It's almost a microcausim of their problems. They came into those rides because their teams didn't really have any better options. Certainly they were being groomed for them, but I don't think RCR or Roush are able to attract any top tier drivers to fill those seats anyways.

Difference between the two is that Stenhouse won't have the leash Dillon has. Ricky is in danger of entering David Ragan territory if he doesn't improve his performance. He'll be quickly passed over and forgotten in the " what have you done for me lately" sport that is NASCAR.

Biffle-Dillon comparison is nice, both have Truck and NW titles, both will probably not win a Cup title. I don't think Dillon will get 18+ wins though, maybe 5-10 in the Jamie Mac range with half coming on plate tracks.

I think a good comparable for Stenhouse is Truex Jr. Both have 2 NW titles and both came up to Cup with high expectations in an organization on the downswing. He'll have spurts of competitiveness like Truex has had, but the wins will never materialize. He just won't get lucky like Truex did and find another good team to go to after he leaves Roush (although MWR wasn't very good when Truex got there).

Jack needs to try and get Brandon McReynolds and Corey Lajoie

What Jack really needs to do is get his engineering dept up to snuff. It doesn't matter who drives, if they don't improve the equipment it will be more of the same. I expect Trevor Bayne to have a real rough rookie year, next year in the 6 car.
