Rolex 24 at Daytona--RACE Thread

Terrible call. That is hard, honest, respectful racing on the last lap.

Pretty good percentage of the field still running strong at the end of the race - I remember when only about a third were running good at the end.

It was a pretty good 24 hour race, with the exception of the Gidley crash and that BS call at the end.

Did anybody else enjoy watching the Ganassi teams sh*t the bed like I did?:D This year he had to play by the same rules as everybody else and they looked like chumps.

According to National Speed Sport News,

BREAKING NEWS: IMSA has reversed its decision regarding the finish and winner of the GT Daytona class. The No. 555 Ferrari driven by Scott Tucker, Bill Sweedler, Townsend Bell, Jeff Segal and Alessandro Pier Giuidi is now the official winner of the GT Daytona portion of the Rolex 24.

The right move.

I'm always glad when they don't win this thing.

Glad to see they got it right. Those guys deserved that win.

I read the Gainso machine was only scheduled to run 5 races this year including the 24 hour. I wonder if those plans will change after losing the car. I hope not, I've been rooting for those guys for years.

Ganassi racing started out in the bucket with a new car design, new untried engine, Ford, that failed to finish the race, and a IMSA rule change that slowed the car down and gave the Vettes a 5 mph advantage in top speed, you could see it on the straights. Pruitt wrecked, said it was mechanical, and was in the garage for a long time, Larson lost a lap when he had a speeding on pit row penalty, after he stalled it in the pits starting out his shift. Neither car was able to make it the distance. Michael Shanks Ford Ecoboost also retired with gearbox problems. Not a good start of the season for the Fords.

I'm a Pruitt fan. But Ganassi was the big fish in a small pond until this year. It should be interesting to see how his organization competes this year. I'm also a fan of the 99, I'd like to see Gurney and Fogarty compete.

I'm glad they fixed the bad call on the last lap.

They lost at Daytona I think it was 2012, and still won the championship, so who knows how they will do the rest of the season. Lot of teams struggling to make it race to race and it looks like Ganassi is getting a boost from Ford..get it... boost

They better get going, the Corvettes already have the pure speed and when they start running more downforce tracks the old LMP2 cars are going to have the advantage. Could be a down year for those teams.

If IMSA gives them back the horsepower they took away, which you could clearly see on the straights the Fords falling back, that would help a bunch. After the Sebring, they are all shorter races so the reliability factor won't be as important. I don't have a clue what IMSA will do, new car, new engine and all. I bet the Ford people are talking to the IMSA people though. Even I could see the speed difference at Daytona and 1.5 to 2 seconds slower a lap.

They do have a ways to go on the Prototype BofP adjustments - they did well with GT with multiple manufacturers battling for the win in both GTD and GTLM but the LMP2 cars couldn't keep up on the straights either, and the Corvettes dominated the whole thing (not that I have a problem with that :)).

See my previous posts. They are a low buck operation that basically race out of their 18 wheeler. I don't know if they have a second chassis and I'm almost positive they don't have a third.

The last time that they had a major car loss, it became their show car, and they had to rent a replacement chassis.

That's why I'm questioning it. @Nitro Dude , how often do you have to change the brakes? Fuel cars use carbon/carbon brakes don't they?
Yes, i think Nhra mandated them on all 4 wheels around 2010. We change them after about 40 runs depending on how they measure out.

I figured it wasn't many.

40 runs @ 3/8 mile shut down = 15 miles of braking.

I'd love to see a set of those rolex brakes after 24 hours on a set. There had to be nothing left of them. Talk about a long pedal...
