Bullsh!t!! NASCAR penalized Toyota for being Too Powerful.

NASCAR restricted the development of the TRD (an American company, based in Costa Mesa, CA) engine. First in the Truck series and then in N'wide and CUP.

And the demise of Pontiac had NOTHING to do with Toyota having a NASCAR program...

Put down the bong, Smoke!

Dang! You only quoted part of my post but go back and read my entire post again.

It was tongue in cheek. LOL

just my quick opinion on jack: don't ever doubt his intelligence. on the other hand he seems to be pretty tight with his purse strings. remember when mark martin retired (the first time!)? i question whether he ever really intended to retire or maybe jack wouldn't pay him? and matt kenseth? does jack really think edwards is better, or naybe he didn't want to pay the price for the only driver that ever won his wife a championship?

honestly it doesn't matter to me. but i have no sympathy for an owner that repalces kenseth with stenhouse. and i hope penske takes ford to the top while edwards continues to expose his true self.

oops. sorry about that. had a couple and climbed up on my soapbox. kinda got carried away. but it was fun! might keep that soapbox close at hand.

Toyota was trying to use a cup engine in a truck..not good
Toyota built a motor that wasn't within specs for cup, had about 40 hp more than the Ford or Chevy. Crews tried to hide it when checked with a funky stop on the throttle

Can you provide a link for this?

This was back in 07. They had an unfair advantage with their manifold they built. If I am not mistaking, they had about 40 more hp in their cup cars too as time went on. Took Nascar a while to level the playing field, after all Toyota built a motor from scratch. Nothing they make had push rods.

LEBANON, Tenn. – In a technical bulletin issued this week, NASCAR has ordered Toyota Busch Series and Craftsman Truck Series teams to use a different intake manifold in an effort to “level the playing field” with other manufacturers.
The change does not affect the Nextel Cup Series.
Busch Series Director Joe Balash said NASCAR informed the teams of the switch during the test at Richmond International Raceway last week. The sanctioning body has been working with Toyota officials “for a while” as NASCAR conducted chassis dynamometer tests this season.
The manifold was declared legal before the season, but tests have shown it gives Toyota teams a horsepower advantage. The new intake reduces horsepower, Balash said.
“We looked at all the manifolds on all the cars,” Balash said. “We looked at that particular manifold as something we can make a change with to keep our engine box as we talk about in check.
“It does reduce the horsepower a little bit in the engine and bring it more within where we are with the other engines in the series.”

The HEMI was simarly owtlawed becase it was too powerful - which led to Chrysler Corp pulling out of NASCAR for several years... Should NASCAR penalize a team for having a "legal" engine package that out-performs the competition? Ain't that what RASSIN is all about? Every team/manufacturer/crew chief wants to find a way to gain an edge!

yep, they outlawed foreign cars in 60. Jag in 54 beat the heck out of all of the american cars on a road course, so they outlawed them. They had to be pressured to let Toyota in

So does that mean that all "ferriners" are held to a different standard?? :D

I think Nascar seems a bit brutal on some of their calls. A couple I heard that didn't make the headlines was when they came out with the new car of tomorrow. On Jr's car at the first Daytona race, the fasteners that bolted the spoiler to the trunk had holes drilled thru them. They fined he and his cousin Tony for that. Most would say that was harsh, the holes in the fasteners weren't in the rulebook, it just said what kind how many and where. Another on the new car was one team, I can't remember which one got fined after the race because they had an illegal access panel. The panel was specified to be where it was, but theirs would open up and let air out of the car, same as Earnhardt's hollow screws would. Neither were illegal according to the rulebooks.

A 40 HP advantage is a huge difference.
it's not huge if you know you got it, and you don't rub everybody's nose in it. I think it was the Ford people, Biffle mainly that was raising cane about it at first, and then the Hendrick bunch caught on to it. So nascar jerked everybody's motor out and dyno'd them. That was right before Ford came out with their new motor, they were still using the winsor block. It wasn't as bad a difference with the Chevy. I think they has around 15 or 20 on the Chevies.

We actually lost Dodge because of Ford. It was the Blue Oval Brigade that poached the only team that Dodge had. The only Dodge team that ever switched to Toyota was Bill Davis Racing, a team that was on its last leg anyway. As for Pontiac, they were pretty much dealt their deathblow when JGR switched back to Chevrolet.

Do what? Dodge went broke..filed bankruptcy. Daimler Chrysler..Fiat bought them, took them out of bankruptcy. They made the decision to quit Nascar. Penske went on his own to Ford.

But wasn't Dodge actively trying to find another team for several months after Penske announced he was going to Ford? Penske made that announcement just a few races into 2012, and it was late summer before Dodge finally pulled the plug on running in 2013.

Dodge had built the new pieces even for the new Gen 6 and had pictures made, so I don't know all the details, but they pulled the plug. don't know if it was around the time they got bought out or what. I can only guess Daimler was going ahead and when Fiat took over, they cut the program. Needless to say I am not going to trade my mopars in on a fiat. Dodge has revived the Viper racing program, SRT Motorsports, and are running a couple of cars in the American LeMans series. They did pretty good in GT one car led quite a bit, but both had problems and the highest finished 5th and the other was 10th, but they ran better then they finished.

From what I understand there were teams throwing themselves at Dodge when the announcement was made that Penske was going to bail. Dodge wasn't looking for another Ray Evernham.

As far as Toyota and their "built from scratch" engine.. We're talking about an intake.. isn't TRD's engine basically a small-block chevy?

Hell of a thread btw, thread jacking everywhere! Haha

I never have liked Roush's management style. every program I have watched about him, he is into everybody's business, micro managing. When he was younger this style wouldn't bite him as bad as it is now that he is pretty dinged up. He can't micro manage everybody, and he tends to hire "yes" people. Penski, Hendrick, Stewart, for example have all said publicly, that they try to hire the best people and give them the tools to do the job. I have never heard that out of Roush.

From everything I have read and heard, Roush is pretty strict and can be a bit of jerk. I guess I have no basis behind it, but from things that I have heard he just rubs me the wrong way.

I knew you would be the one to hang on one paragraph. No, it's not all because Jack left early.

I am that type of person but the rest is still just conjecture and sour grapes, IMO. Thank you for thinking of me, though.

Nice job of getting Penske back in the thick of things ;)

Has Roger ever left a race before the checkered flag?

Ok, where did I hear Jack takes the biggest cut of all the owners in souvenir sales?

Hasn't everyone had to leave work early at some time?:D

Roush IS getting old but can you imagine the hatred that's going to be directed at Jack Roush Jr. when he makes his way to Nascar? Satan, spawn of Satan and the 2 men responsible for all the wrongs in the universe. :partytime

Nice job of getting Penske back in the thick of things ;) They're leading the points. Haven't you heard?

Has Roger ever left a race before the checkered flag? He doesn't get to many, so I doubt it.

Thanks for keeping me in the loop as sometimes I don't know if I'm a Toadie or not...it's very confusing
