Should Nascar give Kyle Larson a waiver?

Well since fans want NASCAR to change everything they’ve shown they done before, maybe they shouldn’t give him one. :sarcasm:

They gave out waivers for many things before, do it here obviously. Keep **** consistent. Only thing they not have them out for before is I believe drug suspensions.

I honestly believe Hendrick and NASCAR have already discussed this in private AHEAD of Larson staying to run the Indy race. Hendrick would NOT risk Larson being left out of the playoffs despite all their commitments to the Indy race. As the weather predictions were developing, firmly believe this was reviewed “unofficially”. Larson flying back to get into the car demonstrates the effort needed to support it, while the rains in both geographies help bolster the rationale to waive the rule (elements out of their control).

No, but nascar is gonna do it anyway

No, but they will.

Which means that after this year, there is no reason to not get rid of the “must attempt to run every race” rule, as continuing to give waivers for new reasons makes the rule look more and more pointless.

Done deal, Kyle Kinda let the cat out of the bag with his tweet of focusing on a second championship

They had better IMO. What Hendrick/Larson did for motorsports in general easily merits a waiver.
What did they do for motorsports? Any Indy Car fan give two ****s? How about the F1 community? Should he get a waiver? Yes, because NASCAR will implode without one for him....but spare me the gift to the racing world...Kyle did it for himself and for The Felon.....this wasn't a charity mission for the lovers of racing.

His humility had a very short stay. Entitled.....or the deal was already done, and NASCAR played dick around with the fans.

And did it for Jeffy

I don’t believe in the mandate to run all the races.

With that said, the mandate and the “waivers” were implemented to prevent this exact scenario.

Check the I500 pre-race thread. Look for that video of people waiting in line to get Kyle's autograph. Note the length of the line.

Problem is that Kyle isn't racing another Indy race this season. It was a big deal for one week, but will it really do anything for Indycar for the rest of the season? Are people going to be talking about Larson's Indy 500 appearance a week from now?

Yesterday was the first time I’ve watched an Indycar race start to finish since 2014. I’m tuning in to Detroit to check it out, so yes it did so something.

Good question. Some of us here at RF follow IndyCar all season. Every May the 500 rolls around, and most active members participate in the race discussion. The comments are usually quite positive, but next race we're back to the same handful of posters. If the quality of this one race can't make regular IndyCar viewers out of people who are already motorsports fans, I don't see Larson converting casuals.

Same comment regarding those who tune in to the Rolex and rave about it but then forget IMSA for a year, by the way.

EDIT posted before I saw @Efisher131 's post

Do you have any proof to back up your claims ?

I have proof to back up mine, it's a no brainer lol.

Larson was a perfect ambassador at the Indianapolis 500, representing both NASCAR and the grass roots, dirt track, sprint car crowd.
I’m not saying there isn’t more out there but so far I think the only person I have really heard have a problem with it has been Rev. But from his opinions over the years when it came to anything Larson it doesn’t surprise me none.

Yes. This couldn’t be any more of a non-issue, imo. He had every intention of running the 600 and had been jetting back and forth between Indy and NC for the past week+ already. They got caught out by a weather delay at a race which hadn’t experienced weather issues of any kind since 2007 - a race which, at bare minimum, is generally accepted as a top 3 race in the world. There is already an effective penalty with the loss of potential playoff points.

Rev continues to try to play off the fact that sold out Joe is keeping Bell who is at the worst a top 5 dirt sprint/midget driver in the world from competing. Rev and Joe have no idea and wonder why their drivers get boo'd so loudly.
At Indy:
"He is the only reason we are here," explained Dot Smith, who made the trip from dirt-track hotbed Springfield, Missouri, along with her husband Dan, both dressed in too-wet matching "Larson 1100" T-shirts. "We didn't watch NASCAR or IndyCar because we like short-track racing, but he's a short-track racer who is running both, so we are here

There is no doubt in my mind that Larson had a lot of his fans watching the Indy 500 that may have not watched it if he wasn’t there. I wouldn’t have missed it for anything even if Larson wasn’t there but him being there made it much more exciting for me.

I hate, hate that this is even a discussion. It’s just not right.

Of course it is click bait. Saw that coming from a mile away. The Gluck and Cluck shiet show
I guess it’s their job to report on both sides of the coin, but let’s give the fans of this sport who already don’t need help bitching, some ammo anyway. It’d be a colossal failure of seeing the big picture if NASCAR doesn’t allow Larson to compete for The Cup via waiver.

Jordan is a great insider but when it comes to opinions, he seems to take the edgy position for the sake of being edgy. Maybe that’s the way they draw it up.

He pretty much laid out the reasons why it could hurt despite the waiver anyways, so I don’t see the reasoning for potentially not awarding one. And I don’t see any precedent-setting or slippery slope - the number of other non-NASCAR events this would ever apply to is effectively zero.
