Ill post a link to download a usefull program to help you, every day I am able to get on. Just thought some people would find it usefull.


These programs are used to detect and remove spyware.

Spybot Search and destroy

Both are free, some people run both to detect things the other doesnt get, but just using one is fine.
 
How to stop those anoying pop ups

First of all there are browsers out there that have built in pop up stoppers ( Netscape , Mozilla , and others). If you have one of these or get one of these you dont need anything else.

If your stuck on useing IE (Internet explorer) there are several options availible.

The new Google Toolbar 2.0, a small Internet Explorer add-on, includes a great built-in pop-up blocker. To activate it, click Google and choose Options. Make sure you're on the Options tab. Check Popup under Accessories, and click OK. You'll get rid of those pesky pop-ups and gain the ability to search with Google from your IE toolbar.

Antivirus programs

You can buy a good one like nortons or pc cillin, but if you dont have the money for one or if you have other things to spend your money on. There are other options.

Here is a link to a site that scans your computer for viruses updated every 24 hours, and works very good. PLUS ITS FREE !!!

free alternatives to Microsoft Office


Theres already another one out there, Sun's free 63.5MB office suite, OpenOffice, but at 21.5MB, 602Pro is quite a bit smaller.


Open office seems to have quite a bit more features but is alot bigger and takes up alot more system resources then 602. There both completely free so take your choice:

What do you guys think about the Netscape Browser? I downloaded the 7.1 version and it seems a lot smoother(and a little faster) than IE to me. So far everything seems compatible----only thing I don't really like is that little download window that Netscape uses when you download something. It seems a little less efficient than IE.
 
I use to use netscape but now since I tryed mozilla I dont ever use netscape anymore. I use IE now and then because some (very few) pages just only seem to work on IE.

IE just seems to have more bugs, and more everything else thats anoying. Not to mention no built in pop up stopper or tabbed browsing.
 
I just used the Spyware detector thing. Never knew there were so many Spyware causes on my computer.
 
I'm a Netscape User as well, it seems to load a bit faster than Internet Explorer and has more interface options, from my experience, I think it's more reliable and less confusing than IE is.

Boy you and me both Happy.I had 134 spyware infections on my computer!!
 
I heard P2P Sharing Programs like KaZaa or LimeWire can install Spyware and Spybots. So I stay away from those programs usually.
 
Got a slow proccesor and a nice size hardrive? It takes awhile to search through all those files everytime you you wanna find 1 little file. Heres a program that searches all your files once and makes a index of them. Search instantly after the initial scan.

For those of you who are trying to stay spyware clean

SpywareBlaster doesn`t scan and clean for so-called spyware, but prevents it from being installed in the first place. It achieves this by disabling the CLSIDs of popular spyware ActiveX controls, and also prevents the installation of any of them via a webpage. This allows you to run Internet Explorer with Active-X enabled, but it will never download or even prompt you for any of the known ActiveX controls. All other Active-X controls or plug-ins will work fine. The SpywareBlaster database contains information on these known spyware Active-X controls and can be updated with the click of a button. The application windows displays a list of all controls that it is able to detect (this is not a list of what was found on your computer). The program cannot detect if you have any of the known objects already installed, but if you do, they will be disabled. The program also allows you to take a snapshot of your computer (certain settings) in its clean state and later revert many changes made by spyware and browser hijackers.

Weekly tip #1 dont go to computer repair places to get your computer updated.

Go to a site like http://www.pricewatch.com or a local comp store order the part and install it yourself if you have no clue what your doing contact a freind who does, ask online, or look up how tos on google. Lots of money will be saved.
 
Do you need to resize or change the format of your pictures?

have a picture but its the size of the great wall of china, and in bitmap format. Probally about 2mb in size and to big to upload at most places?

I have tried a couple freeware resizer programs this one seems to be the most user freindly and easy to work with. Also no words on the picture.

I used Download Acdelerator, it's pretty good, you can pause and unpause downloads and resume downloads and stuff.

Pretty useful for those 20 MB and over files.
 
Hey Smack? I lost my dvd decoder that came bundled with my comp....anywhere I can download a free one? Or will I have to bite the bullet and buy one? Seems like I saw a free download for one somewhere before but damned if I can find it.

Have small kids and dont want them to be able to look up certain things, heres some freeware for you.

iProtectYou is a Internet Filtering/Parental Control package that provides parents with control over Internet usage. Parental Filter is a specialized parental control filter that enables you to block porn from your web browser. It uses a built-in database of web sites that are blocked, as well as a list of keywords that it scans for on web pages, and blocks them if a they are found. Have you deleted something recently and wanted it back. Well when you delete a file out of your recycle bin windows just marks it so later on it will overwrite it. Until it is overwriten you can use several programs to restore it.

There are also programs out there that will permantly delete files, it will overwrite the file with random 1s and 0s over and over. Note: you cannot restore files you permantly remove with these programs.

Software-based data destruction is never as good as hardware destruction. Any three-letter government agency (FBI, CIA, NSA) can recover data from software destruction using high-power microscopes.

If you are paranoid and can afford to destroy the media that stores the data, here are some hardware solutions.

Hard drive/floppy degausser
A degausser is a charged coil that removes all magnetic fields from a target device. To use the degausser, you set the hard drive or floppy disk upon the device and switch it on. Degaussers are expensive and can vary in price based on effective degaussing power. Degaussers should be used with a software tool such as autoclave. Click here for info on degaussers

Acid and thermite
Acid can be used to dissolve disks. Thermite creates a reaction that burns media to a crisp. Realistically, you aren't going to use these materials to destroy your media. It's too dangerous and not worth the hassle. Never attempt to use acid or thermite at home. Using these materials can cause severe injury.

Be careful with Eraser. I downloaded it and gave it a try. I wanted to "wipe" my free space on my hard drive and gave it a shot. It took a little over 2 hrs with my 65 gigs free space on my 80 gig drive. But when I tried to access web sites where login is necessary (such as this site) the page would not load...........and I could not login! Other sites worked fine. I wound up having to uninstall it and do a system restore to get things back. I may have screwed up somewhere when setting my prefferences to cause the problem.......I don't know. But taking over 2 hrs to try again, I decided I could live without wiping my free space!! :D

I would be an excellent tool if you were going to sell (or give away) your computer or hard drive. Wipe it clean to protect all your personal stuff first.
