So, you have a very fast car, who do you put in it? A big name driver like Kasey or Matt would cost you millions so do you go for experience or a young driver who would be happy to race for a fraction of the money.

I think the car is being mothballed until Toyota needs it again for a young driver unless substantial funding can be found and I get the feeling no one is even looking.

Whoever brings sponsor $$ with them. I believe they already mentioned previously that without sponsorship they will not run.
thats the prevalent theory around here, makes sense. I'd love to see what Kurt Busch could do in that ride though, I think that team would be lethal.

Bell is a possibility, but again he would look a whole lot better if he had a sponsor behind him.

if I had won the lottery that ride would be MINE! But I didn't..:(

I kinda hope Bubba Wallace would get the ride even though he'll be in the 43.

I doubt it will be Kurt. It sounds like SHR/Ford want to keep him around.

Matt sounds like he's leaning towards retirement in his recent comments. But Toyota likes him and he's still an elite driver.

Personally, if Kasey Kahne could find a sponsor, I think that would be an excellent hire.

Outside chance for a young gun like Christopher Bell or Bubba Wallace. I don't think Toyota wants to rush Bell up too quickly, and Bubba doesn't have sponsorship which is why he's available in the first place.

This whole driver having to find his own sponsorship thing is a joke. Most of these teams have sales staffs that are supposed to be constantly on the prowl for new sponsors .. it would be nice if some of them would step up their game and lock down their own sponsors for their own cars. It seems that if a driver doesn't bring the team a sponsorship deal these days they are at a real disadvantage. I'm sure a guy like Matt is like .. I'm a driver .. do your jobs!

I don't see too many people laughing. Kinda naive to think teams aren't doing anything or to think they need to do it all IMO. Some can, some do, factory support comes and goes. It takes it all from every direction for the most part.

If im Toyota I'm putting Christopher Bell in that car he deserves it.

Bell isn't ready for prime time, and I am a fan. He's a dirt guy hardly any experience on pavement. Xfinity is a big enough jump, he's running for a way better team in the trucks than most of the rest of the field right now. Xfinity is a bit closer to even cars.

Nascar is different as they expect the manufacturers to spend millions publicizing the series and title sponsors to spend millions beyond what they are spending for the title sponsorship. I gather teams don't have anyone in charge of procuring and maintaining sponsorship but instead just sit by the phone hoping it rings. It is a strange setup and one that is outdated.

It isn't a question of laughing or crying but of deploying competent people to sell prospective sponsors on the benefits of associating with their team and Nascar.

Bell will be a bust, too many guys are already present that will overshadow him

If Toyota doesn't get Bell to Cup soon I feel like they'll lose him. Already feel like Larson is in Chips ear about him.

Kurt is already on a good team. Your statement is confusing.

Not really. what is so good about SHR racing this year? How many wins do they have this year compared to FRR/Gibbs? I think if you look at the numbers coampring the team's ( wins, top 5's, top 10's) it's not confusing

Yeah, I think FRR would actually be an upgrade over SHR. Kurt has been MIA since that Daytona 500 win, and Jones is only 12 points behind him despite being a rookie on a team that didn't exist a year ago. I don't recall what kind of terms Kurt left FRR on the first time, I wonder if they'd have him back?

Pretty much , and that 500 win was fluke for the most part, he really lucked into that win if I am recalling correctly, I dont know whats going on at SHR, but I think they are still maybe feeling the effects of switching to Ford , just my guess. That is a good question how on the terms that he left FRR and is that door open.

I didn't check the numbers but I also think SHR is running neck to neck with RCR for last place.
