Southern acceptance??? NOT RACING RELATED

Something else people have to seperate other people by. Put these people over here and those people over here that way we know how they are . The people that look like this do this. Never will people ever accept that every single person is different.TIA.

mmmmm... breakfast burritos, smothered in good hot red chile, mmmmm.....and what exactly is sweet tea? tea with a bunch of sugar in it?

That's what I'm guessing NM...for some reason they think they've reinvented the wheel by putting a few sugarcubes into their glass of tea.

I'm glad you cleared up the sweet tea thing. I've been wondering about that. As to breakfast burritos,:bleh:

I'm from the midwest, so I guess I'm neither fish nor fowl.
After all, we talk with an accent, and we are all farmers.:D ;)

You know what ticks me off? Well I'm gonna tell you anyway! :) I was born in Kansas but only lived there for 6 months before moving to Oklahoma where I was raised and lived for the next 19 years. My old pals back in OK would call me a Jayhawking Redleg. My brother in Oregon called me a Yankee when I lived in Iowa, and my wife now calls me a midwesterner. My daughter calls me a Redneck, but all I want to be is an Irishman. Bout to drive a man to drink. :foot:

Come on Don't break down big boy.:p This place is so much fun for us ol timers.:D

With all the stuff I've been doing with my computer, I"m just now getting around to this thread.:) Not going to get too heavily involved here. Just a thought. I'm southern.......born in Texas but lived in Mississsippi as a kid. Moved around a lot when young......my father was in the Air Force, then was an airline pilot. We went where ever the U.S. or airline sent us.:) Most places I lived were in the south, though I did live in Denver for a few years. I guess I have a southern accent since I get the comments all the time (even now). It does effect how people preceive you..........somewhere along the line "southerners" are supposed to be dumb or illiterate (that is a sterotype). So when southerns open their mouths and speak in places like Colorado, the Southwest, and I'm sure in the North and Northeast, we often get that sterotypical label put on us. I know I experienced it. But my skin is not very thin so I sluffed it off quite easily. My answer to Whizzer is that many "southerners" are slow to accept "northerners" simply as some sort of revenge. It ain't right either way..........but, it is human nature.

My two cents.

my dad's family all came from Alabama, I grew up in alabama the first couple of years of my life born in new york city though, (mother Cambrini hospital)
lived in Keokuk Iowa for a couple of years, then moved on to Florida until I moved out to California in 1980........but lived in floirda most of my young kid years, teen years and adult years, now my old age (hee hee) is in California for now.....wonder where I will wind up in my later later later years...
I have a sister that still lives in alabama though,,,haven't seen her since the late 70's.....she is a bit of a loner....not at all like me...thank God..hahahhaa SHE'S WORSE.........:D :D :D

I use to move gravel out of Muscatine Buckaroo,I didnt have a clue that there was a real chance of people being there.:)

Muscatine! Yikes! You know that Musco Lighting, the guys who put up the lights around many of the tracks, is from there. I lived in the Quad Cities, both Iowa and Illinois for 23 years before I moved down here.

Here's a funny story for you. We went to the last race at Richmond and like everyone else, parked in one of the satelite lots and of course, did a little tailgating. Got to talking to the guys who were parked next to us and found that they were from the DC area. Just before they were off for the track, I mentioned that I had lived in Davenport, Iowa. One of the guys looked back and said he did too just before moving to the DC area. I asked where he lived and it turned out that he lived on my mail route there. Small world.:)

See, that's where ya'll are ALL WRONG! :D

Ok, here's the low down.... If you put sugar cubes or any type of sugar for that matter in iced tea, all it's going to do is fall to the bottom. If you put sugar in tea while it's hot, just after brewing, it dissolves into the flavor of the tea..... dern ya'll gotta go to a sweet tea contest in the southeast.... sweet tea is so good it'll make you wanna dump unsweet tea over the head of anyone that wants to ever serve you unsweet tea again!! (the last sentence was totally tongue in cheek, I DO NOT condone dumping any liquid over the head of any human at any time)

:p

I dont think any southern redneck would want to move up north if they do I dont consider them rednecks no more I dident say you had to paul

Now that just makes me want to ask, why do people from the south feel the need to separate themselves from the rest of their fellow Americans?

I wonder what people would say if a group of Hispanics decided to reword the Pledge of Allegiance to reflect their heritage?  I'm sure a lot of you would have a fit...just as many of us did when the 9th Circuit Court in California attempts to reword it legally.

Just some thoughts.

if what i said does anything to you in a neg way, thats to bad

to anwser your questions, why do we want to separate? because we can thats why. it the south could make it's own "country" again. i sure as hell it would not have the mistakes as the us legal system. Paul just listion to Hank Jr. "if the south would have won" and thats the way i would run it.

as long as they kept under GOD in it, it would be allright with me. and what was our country founded on. belive in GOD, not some wica (or how ever you spell it) godess or something along them lines. if they took out under God it would be the end of this country.

but in all due respect Paul, it is mostly fun and games, we know we wont see the Rebel [><] flag flying at the court house. or joe blow swinging from a tree after killing his girlfriend and kids. (i say we still should have hangings, soon as you are proving guilty to a killin, your hung) it just gives us something to hold on to and something that night have been.

just in my op

Yeah, we should give every group that wants to think their special and different their own country...hows that for political correctness?

Quit yer bitchin.

If a bunch of Islamics wanted to change the Pledge of Allegiance, fly their flag from the courthouse and be able to kill women in the streets for not covering their faces would you think it's ok? Or would you suddenly be crying about political correctness? How is it different when you're the one whining?

And for the record, I think Whizzer is spot on his opinions.

FYI, this is my last post on this thread. I'm not even going to lurk in it. I just wanted to say that I don't agree with all the "southerners". We're all HUMAN, not yankees or southerners. For me personally the whole thing is a joke. I mention it when joking. I was born & raised in the south so If I were to be generalized in one of the groups I would have to say that I'm a southerner. That certainly doesn't mean that I agree with all the other "southerners" on here or anywhere else. Quite honestly there's times when some people almost make me ashamed to admit that I'm from the south. I don't agree with the "good ol boy" mentality and it turns my stomach when I hear it. I'm trying to move back to sc to be closer to my family and because I enjoy the climate in the south. One of the things that I'm not looking forward to is the "good ol boys" and having to come across them alot more than I have to up here. What it boils down to IMO is that there is no difference. Just like there's no difference between blacks & whites. The only difference is the racism that we as humans choose to make. I personally find it annoying when someone tries to make an issue out of it. Hence the reason for my previous posts. I don't like either side of it. I don't care for whizzers side and I don't care for any southerners that are here with their "we're different, we're special, we seperate ourselves because we can" mentalities. It's only an issue because someone wants to make it an issue. It's kind of like making a mountain out of a mole hill, except that there's no mole hill here. The fact that someone made a mole hill about this at all is what got me personally annoyed. That's the reason I'm not even going to look at this particular thread again. IMO it shouldn't even be an issue.

:headshake

Well I hsve to say my peace now. I was born in the south and rasied here. But I also belive this Good ol Boy thing is getting out of hand. I think the Rebel flag is a simble of haritage. BUT I can also see where it is a simble of raceism and hatred to a lot of people. So I don't fly the Rebel flag on a flag pole in my yard. I do how ever fly Old Glory. First and formost I belive we are all Americans. We teach raceism to our kids. You can see kids Black, White, Yellow and Red playing baseball together. But when they are grown they wont even speel to eack other. Who fault is that. I laugh at redneck jokes and I also joke about Northerners and Westerners. So if I affend you . I will say I an sorry. So that's all I have to say about that.

Lap3 you made a lot of sence to me. I don't think your stupid. And don't worry about spelling and typing. Everybody are not collage professors. If they understand what your saying that is the main thing. People say your bitching if you don't agree with them. But if they don't agree with you that is not bitching. Something is wrong with that phiosophy.

I welcome you as well!!!!! have a nice stay here as you do the southerners houses.

Hey, glad to see the AMERICAN spirit is alive. Isn't this a great place to live. think of just how lucky we all are. thank GOD for our forefathers of the USA:) :waa: :bawling: :waa: :bawling:
I love you guys

:)
All I'm gonna say bout this is the Southern forefathers fought to escape a repressive government, restore states rights as granted them by the Constitution of the United States. The war was not about slavery, it was about eliminating the free trade stance of the Southern ports, by establishing tariffs, Import fees, and eventually blocking of Southern ports.
The Confederate flag is not a symbol of hatred, but a symbol of a group of freedom fighters that took a stand such as our forefathers in 1776. They fought and died for freedom.

God Bless

Then the swastika isn't a symbol of hate either. I mean, it was just a flag for a certain group of people in that country.

Yes, the rebel flag started out with all the romance you stated above, but your people (I mean, you feel the need to separate yourselves right?) adopted it and used it as a symbol of hate.

Until you folks down there can stop trying to think you're any different than the rest of us you'll continue to be grouped into one lump, or you can keep playing the typical, liberal "we're a special group of people" violins.

I have nothing against people from the south or the north...I have a big gripe with all these groups that pop up all the time demanding respect, and certain special rights bla bla bla.

Like I've said many times, all our problems can be solved once people stop trying to separate themselves.

 Thats your opinion. And there is that Northern attitude.
It started that way and WE did not change it. The perception of it changed. Les by people like yourself.
Then if the Confederate flag is a swastica, then when the 1st American flag flew it was flying over slave holding states in the perfect North. Actually it flew over Northern states during the civil war that were slave holding states. So it too is a symbol of hate? Whats the difference?
Again, perception.
At the bottom of your posts used to be the quote about defending liberty. I think it was "Those who can sacrifice liberty for security are worthy of neither".
Oh I see, Just the Southern people cant do it right?
You need to look past all that government controlled public school brainwashing cirriculum you were taught and see the other side.
And I dont think this group just popped up, and we never asked for anything except to be left alone. Why is that so hard for you people?

Left alone? With all the special, regional flags you need to fly...divide yourselves up into all these different sections.

Come up to New England, you'll see a simpler group of people...no special symbols, no special parades, no special marches, no special flags...just people living...no need to get all wrapped up into thinking we're anything special.

We leave all those special flags and parades etc to the minority groups in NYC. But hey, if you want to fly all your special symbols...feel free, just be prepared to hear it from the people that take offense to all your different symbols...those people just want to be left alone too.

That reverse psychology won't work on me judas! I'm wearing my tinfoil hat! ;)

damn it. alright toughguy. you may have got me this time.... but i'll be back:mad:

Not only do people try to seperate themselvs but they also seperate other people that don't agree with there views. I live in virginia, I have lived in north carolina and florida. I also know lots of other southerners that dont agree with your seperation opinions. Compared to all southerners its actually only a minorty that has that opinion from what I have seen. Like I said before People have a problem comprehinding that every single person is diffrent. Not everybody is sexist racist or predjudist, but most people seperate everyone in there own way. northerners do this, canadians do this, all fat people are lazy, all southerners do this, and etc etc etc. If there are other species out there in the galaxy, I hope we never meet them, most people have a problem with diffrence. Can't even get along with each other...
