Spec engine coming to the Trucks

Without having to have an engine department, Dodge or maybe the other Japanese manufacturer Nissan might become involved. Having five brands racing would be good for the sport.

What's the point though? If I was a manufactuerer I wouldn't want my emblem on this spec engine. I want my stuff under the hood. I'd see no incentive in getting into the sport that was trying to push manufacturers involvement out. Personally I'd rather see factory teams than I would spec engines.

I agree having 5 brands racing would be great but if NASCAR has spec engines you only have 1 brand.

Toyota manufactures only the engine block, the cylinder heads, the valve seats and guides, and the valley cover, White said. Like the other manufacturers, Toyota outsources all other engine-related parts from traditional NASCAR vendors such as Edelbrock, Crane, Drake, and Holley. But because Toyota has engineered the best elements of its competitors directly into its own powerplant, prep work is minimal."Our blocks come off the CNC machines, and we can literally blow them off and build them."

The "point" has been pointed out many times in this thread. reducing expenses. Same for the motor rule in cup.

I hate to burst your bubble but manufactures supply very little of a car today. For engines they may have been involved with the design but once the engine is approved they are mostly out of the picture. Ford engines are build by Roush/Yates, Gm are built by HMS and RCR. The Toyota are different in that TDR supplies the Cup engines and JGR supplies engines for Xfinity.

Your not bursting my bubble any. I know the manufacturers have very little to with the car, I think that's the problem. Going to spec engine pretty much pushes manufacture's involvement completely out of the sport.

Yeah I don't think that the expenses are all that outrageous for the truck teams but that's not what I was talking about.

What is the point of a manufactuer getting involved in the sport if they have spec engines? You said that maybe Dodge or Nissan might come in if this is implemented but what exactly would they be coming into do? Makes no sense for a new manufactuer to get involved.

Probably don't have time to get into a argument on something that has already happened? ya think?

Yup, expenses will be reduced. Triad is already talking layoffs. :idunno:

That quote was a long time ago....

This isn't some academic exercise about how we might design our perfect dream series. NASCAR is trying to keep the Truck Series and the teams that race in it alive. Hard choices have to be made. Why do a few fans think it is up to them to decide what team owners' costs should be?

they have only 13 full time drivers, and they are losing two more at the end of the season at least. Dumb greedy says, keep it like it is until there are only a couple teams. Smart greedy says cut costs and try to keep everybody going.

Unless they are using the Trucks series as a guinea pig for Cup IDK why they just don't kill it.

They have do do something, and more than this, to reduce expenses in the Truck series. If they don't they aren't too far from having enough trucks to run the series in a legitimate manner. Already seeing even some of the better funded teams pulling out. And now seem to usually have only 30 to start. And if that 30, about 10 of them aren't really racing.
