Sprint All-Star Pre-race Race Thread

I think the point was that she didn't qualify with the current rules in place. That$ the funny part. The sport, collided with the "$how". The $how will win every time.

Sooo funny that when Danica gets voted in by a MAJORITY of Nascar fan votes , a tiny minority will bitch that she has no business being there . What a great country.:D

I don't know how you feel but it's got to be pretty demoralizing for an athlete like Danica that NASCAR went and changed the rules because they don't think she's talented enough to finish on the lead lap in a 40 lap race.

She signed up for it. Cup ride without hardly any experience. The popularity factor was right on, but she had to know with only one win in an indy car that it isn't her driving talent. Kinda reminds me of pro wrestling, she talks a good story, but she isn't supposed to win. When they start pulling over and let her pass, I'll quit watching.

If you say so.o_O

Ah , the curse of being old . I think that practice actually started when Dale Sr . didn't make a Clash one year because he had no poles . Horrors , couldn't have that . Too bad you can't ask him how he felt.;)

Earnhardt was a seven time series champion. Danica's just a cash-cow.

I'm sure you remember this car.

I just seen this too. Kind of ridiculous. You want to be in the All Star race, win a race or the showdown, forget this fan vote and "Danica" rule. Not as ridiculous as the no pit road speed in qualifying though. That's just insanity to me.

Nobody over the wall until the car stops. I actually like this change because it will take skill to do it right.

My favorite all-star race memory has to be Kyle Busch and Gordon fighting for the lead and out of nowhere Newman turned on the after burners and got 3 wide with Kyle and Gordon.
They were able to hold on for a little bit then of course one of them lost it and that was that. Still one of the coolest racing segments I remember at Charlotte.

I was sitting at the exit of 4 when that happened right in front of me, then watched 24 slide into the wall.. I was BUMMED! Got over it pretty quick though once I remembered the race didn't matter. Haha

All-star Race<World 600

I also agree they are screwing the pit guys over. Put them back in an arena and have the old ladies 'drive' the cars. I do like no speed limit though..

$1 million ta winner. bonus $1 mill ta win all 5.

biffle's got it right. " balls ta tha wall" .......an not all will make it.

lookin forward ta race .

With the All Star Race drawing ****** viewing figures and what not, it's clear that it is boring people to death. What it needs is a new track. Bristol baby!

Today was perfect! I recently moved so I talked to the cable company and they said that they'd install my cable between 1-3 on Friday and was also told by my boss that he was switching my schedule for Saturday which now means that I work the morning shift instead of the night shift. At first I wasn't sure that I'd be able to see either qualifying or the race, and now I'll likely get to see both. As for the race, I'm still a fan even after last year. Last year was one of the more boring and quietest All-Star races I've seen.

I also noticed on ESPN that another $1 million will be offered if a driver can win all five segments. Anyone think there is a possibility that someone could accomplish that?

Seeing that YOU brought it up, Ragan can't afford to wreck a car but that prize money would mean a lot to an underfunded team.

Very true. Infact he was on Race Hub last night and he said that they had thought about not running this weekend, but after they won Talladega they decided to take their Coke 600 car and run it and pick up some data for the 600. He said they would like a top ten finish.

The All star race pays a whole lot more than the Q races, which is why FR changed their plans.

Whoa there...dude can you imagine the complaints if someone does that ? Don't even go there . On the other hand , I would love to see it just to hear the whineing .:D

Does the bitching start when she's still on the lead lap, or sometime after she goes a lap down?

How exciting it is depends a lot on the format. Last year all you had to do was win one segment and you could pussyfoot around in the back the rest of the race since you were guaranteed a Top 4 spot going into the pits before the final segment. The average finish should make it a lot more competitive now I think.

I don't think it's likely anyone gets the $2 million total but there's a shot. If someone does I'd bet on Jimmie (he owns Charlotte) or Kenseth.

Just makes the All-Star race more of a farce than it already is. This is the one NASCAR weekend out of the year when I take a pass and leave the TV off. Maybe I'll do something productive Saturday night :)

I'm pretty sure that my cat's litter box needs cleaning . . . :D

He'll be there just like everyone else will be. Heck, there should be no misunderstanding as to what this thread is about yet they still read/post. Nobody's fooling anyone on here.

Exactly. I bitch about RP races but I still watch every freaking lap of every race and practice session from every series that's televised. We are all full of BS at some level. Some admit it, some don't.:)

All this whining for a non points race that is strictly for entertainment. NASCAR has changed the qualifying, race rules, and the name many times over the years. I think when the fan vote started it was unofficially called the Earnhardt Jr rule for the same reasons some are whining about Danica (let her fans have something to cheer about). NASCAR has used it to try out different things over the years and one of the best was side-by-side restarts. Enjoy the race.
