Sprint, T-Mobile merger: Sprint brand will disappear ...

if t mobile / sprint deal goes thru ....prolly won't be any nascar series sponsorship after '16. ???
t mobile is frugal german company......we'll see.

To be honest, I was kind of skeptical that Sprint was going to stay on long before this merger was announced.

They are not really frugal. They are just smart with their money and would rather spend it on upgrading equipment (they just became the second fastest 4g provider behind verizon not too long ago) than sponsoring a racing series. I've been a t-mobile costumer for 9 years now and their customer service and prices have always been really good.

There are choices at the link Bobby provided, but I use the LG Huawei Glory, Android 4.1. The phone cost $100, and it's your service plan. I put it on a $10 a month 50 minute plan, which the phone triples. 150 minutes talk, 150 texts and 150 MB data for $10. It all rolls over each month, so I end up going off the plan and using what I accrued for a couple of months. It's great not dealing with a contract.
Damn, that's a hell of a deal.

frugal in germany means every marketin expense gotta show real roi.....not that it's cheap product.
ie --mercedes....bmw...etc
deutsche telekom ain't gonna approve sprint's current adv budget....nor tha exec's now there either ! ha!

i wonder if at&t buying directv had any effect on this merger

Heck, it gets even cheaper than that. I do pay-as-you-go. 60 minutes/texts/mb (but its tripled so its 180) and 3 months of service. Saves $40 over the value plan annually.

All of these cell carriers are only as good as the service they provide you. What's the best for me may not be the best for you. It's obvious the leaders in coverage but if they don't cover your area then they're no good to you.

As far as coverage at the races or any other sporting event goes..... Whenever you put that many customers in a centralized location, service degrades. We're sharing the bandwidth. If you camp at any of these races is obvious. The service is fine until the masses come to the venue. What is good is that all tracks are too provide Wi-Fi service by 2015 or so announced by Brian not all that long ago. That should be a bonus to everyone once they implement that. That is as long as fans take advantage of it.

Damn, that's a hell of a deal.

Standard stuff with Tracfone. If you don't use your phone a ton each month, you should check in to it. Upgrade your phone any damn time you want, and they now let you migrate your number and minutes to the new phone. I keep the old one as a backup. If something happens to my new phone, It's simple and cheap to reactivate. FedEx overnight is usually free, and they have nice phones for as little as $40. It's so nice being free from the contract BS, and the internet access is actually better than I had on my crappy Verizon phone. I maintain my phone and 2 for my kids for less than $30 a month. It used to cost me $80, and the phones were crap.

It is certainly worth looking into. Thanks for the info.

I wonder if ole Brian will make this a pay for service type deal...

The problem with wifi is that it also starts to get slower when more people are connected.

Looks like this merger isn't going to take place.

Sprint and SoftBank End Their Pursuit of a T-Mobile Merger

Sprint and its corporate parent, the Japanese telecommunications giant SoftBank, have decided to drop their pursuit of T-Mobile US after conceding that antitrust regulators would block a deal in an industry that is dominated by just a few large players, a person briefed on the matter said on Tuesday.

The decision, made at a Sprint board meeting on Tuesday afternoon, is the second failed effort by large American wireless carriers to merge in three years. And it represents a serious blow by SoftBank to develop a big new challenger to the two giants of the American cellphone industry, Verizon and AT&T.

This part may not be such good news. This guy was a huge NASCAR proponent.

@nateryan

News from Sprint: The #nascar title sponsor replaces CEO Dan Hesse with Marcelo Claure, effective August 11.

Keep the Cup? Sprint's NASCARite CEO Dan Hesse out; analyst says new CEO Marcelo Claure's priority is "change approach to consumer strategy"

They broke AT&T up into 10 phone companies and they've been merging back together like the T-1000 in Terminator 2.
:XXROFL:

For a second there I had a silly hope that with the Sprint/T-Mobile merger, T-Mobile customers would get some version of the Sprint NASCAR app. I guess not. :(

I can't believe he was the highest paid CEO of all the cell companies, and he's getting $40 million for getting fired. American stock holders are so stupid.

There are various technical/legal reasons that Fortune 500 CEOs are given massive severance packages, but you're right, it is stupid.

Technically super greedy and legally corrupt.

In Europe and Japan, compensation for CEO's is about 1/20th of US CEO's, and any termination packages are usually performance based. IMO, the termination package should be stock held in trust the day they take the position, which they receive when they are out. Do a good job and that stock will be worth more.
