Rick Allen: "Major IMPLICATIONS now as Paul Wolfe has decided to use his crew chief's challenge. We are under yellow again, and the penalty against the #22 is under review in the Geico Review Booth. A reminder that while the officials reach their decision in 15 minutes or less, you can save 15% on your auto insurance with Geico. We'll be right back with the restart."

Just one more thing to make watching a race a bit more complicated. It is sure easy to explain to someone why the stages are 75, 115, and 122. :(

The RTA will never allow for something that results in a chartered team going home.

  5. SpeedPagan

That's why you get rid of the charters & the 35 guaranteed starting spot.

  6. AndyMarquisLive

    AndyMarquisLive Short Track Fanatic

That'll never happen. The owners have too much control now.

Honestly, I think the RTA's gonna form their own series soon. Only reason I can think of for some of the acquisitions they've been making lately.

  7. SpeedPagan

    SpeedPagan The iRacing Guru

The RTA hasn't done anything to improved the product on the track, just came up with ideas that lined their own pockets.

Honestly, to me, the current landscape looks a lot like Open Wheel Racing did before the split. And many of the same players are involved.

Too much greed here. Everyone wants all the network money for themselves. The tracks, the teams, NASCAR, the drivers.

What? NASCAR will dominate them with the TV contracts, sponsorship money and race track availability not to mention those owners are pretty smart and most wouldnt be dumb enough to break off and try it.

Every time I respond to the Nascar Fan Council rate the weeks race, I write in bold letters: "Get Rid Of The Cautions at the end of Stages", as a fan, that is all I can do about it.

Restarts? Whatever racing series I'm watching I try not to miss one for whatever reason. Pretty ironic that some of the darlings of the stick n ball threads have a problem with breaks when they watch who knows how many for, quarters, half times, commercials, officials, first downs, injuries, 2 minute timeout? 8 team timeouts allowed, grounding the ball, throwing out of bounds, taking a knee, on and on.

  19. Team Penske

But but but those ball athletes need to rest quite often.

Well at least they haven't added an extra stage yet, some of the alternating lengths seem kinda dumb though.

LOL. So much for any strategy at all this coming year. The leaders will jump to the lead and stay in the lead. No need to pit early because everyone basically has to pit at the same time now to make it to the end.
And since Aero is so important I expect a lot of guys dominating the races this year since its pretty tough to pass. Should make qualifying super important though.

The 3rd stage was at least half the length of the race with green flag run, where you could work strategy. Sort of was the best of both worlds for those that liked the first 2 stages. But, they just had to mess with it.

Final stage break should occur in the final 1/3 of the race, but should be No Notice -- unknown to the Teams.

Final Stage Break should be predetermined during the Stage Break prior it, by lottery ball indicating the Lap Number.

Conduct the ball drop in a secret room with a NASCAR Official, NASCAR Race Control Official, Track Official, and a local Judge; along with three Witnesses. There they shall remain until the Final Stage Break.

Race Control Official shall be responsible for activating the Final Stage Button.

    Smh.

“Phoenix, New Hampshire, Dover and Richmond, the goal there was to create some stages that potentially gave us some more strategy options for the crew chiefs,” Miller said. “Typically, those races laid out to where there was no stop necessary in Stage 1 and Stage 2 and a green-flag stop necessary in Stage 3. These shifts in stage length put us to where … there is a need for a green-flag stop in the second AND the third stage. Some more strategy options available there.

Literally nobody asking for stage racing.
NASCAR: *creates stage racing, removing green flag pit strategy*
Fans: “stage racing is artificial and needs to go!”
    NASCAR: More stages!

If that is what a person believes so be it. But the majority of fans don't have a problem with them, but it does give some a reason to complain. So be it, they got improved.

There is no element of stages that I like. Especially not the stage points, which royally screws up the points standings.

(Hint: Joey Logano wasn't the top points racer last season. He was the best in the first half of races, which made it appear that he was. At least with stage breaks spaced evenly, you're getting a somewhat truer representation of performance throughout a race.)

However, I thought most indications were that the majority of fans do not object. NASCAR succeeded in finding a way to sell their and the TV networks' desire to have scheduled stoppages and restarts. Once accepted, it was inevitable they would grow incrementally. I'm surprised they haven't moved faster to create a final stage break with 10 to go or similar.

I'm glad somebody has figured out that there are a number of entities involved overall in the Nascar series. They call them stakeholders of which the me me me only me fan is a small part of the whole. I wish in a perfect world high schools and colleges would have tracks built and maintained by the education system and funded by the tax payers so we wouldn't need stage breaks.

Agreed, but we're stuck with them. I'd like them better if they awarded the points without stopping, but until a no-commercials subscription service comes on line then we gotta work around what telly wants.

I think the second half of football should pick up right where the first half ended; ditto overtime. But I've been know to watch despite that 'flaw'.

Yes, it appears we are “stuck” with them.
I choose to watch less NASCAR because of the stages and the playoff format.
I quit caring about championships long ago. The sport has become more like a cheesy reality TV show than a motorsport.

I didn't whine on the comment section about it. I know Nascar would try to fix it, especially since Jim France is running the show. The owners aren't stupid either, nor are the TV people although their wishes usually are going to clash with everybody. Shill over n out.
