Team Owner
Steve Phelps has stepped down as the Commissioner of NASCAR.
He did himself in as much as anything. No matter whatever else he did or didn't do, the Richard Childress comments could NOT be allowed to stand. As I said a month or so ago, five minutes after he's gone, NOBODY will remember he was here. Or CARE.The designated fall guy. Business as usual for the France family.
yep, nobody put a gun to his head and forced him to say what he said. He sure didn't help Nascar's case any.He did himself in as much as anything. No matter whatever else he did or didn't do, the Richard Childress comments could NOT be allowed to stand. As I said a month or so ago, five minutes after he's gone, NOBODY will remember he was here. I'm sorry this is such bull****. They make such a big deal out of what he said and in reality we all know everyone on both sides has said the same crap.yep, nobody put a gun to his head and forced him to say what he said. He sure didn't help Nascar's case any.
There I fixed it for youThe designated fall guy. Business as usual for everyone.
Some people are big enough that it doesn't matter. (Jim France). With others it just is what it is (Car owners etc). BUT, when you are somewhere in the middle, you have to know your place, and Steve Phelps got a little too big for his britches. The owner of the company I work for can criticize our customers. The customers can criticize our owners. I'm just an an employee. My job is to keep my damn mouth shut and try to make BOTH happy.I'm sorry this is such bull****. They make such a big deal out of what he said and in reality we all know everyone on both sides has said the same crap.
He was nascar “Commissioner” for over 20 years. I couldn’t tell you one positive or negative thing he did for the sport. That might be more on me for not paying attention. He did himself in as much as anything. No matter whatever else he did or didn't do, the Richard Childress comments could NOT be allowed to stand. As I said a month or so ago, five minutes after he's gone, NOBODY will remember he was here. Or CARE.
But he was stupid enough to put it in an email or textI'm sorry this is such bull****. They make such a big deal out of what he said and in reality we all know everyone on both sides has said the same crap.
Compared to Mike Helton in the same role, Phelps was a no show.He was nascar “Commissioner” for over 20 years. I couldn’t tell you one positive or negative thing he did for the sport. That might be more on me for not paying attention.
See the Campbell's Soup CIO.Some people are big enough that it doesn't matter. (Jim France). With others it just is what it is (Car owners etc). Who??He did himself in as much as anything. No matter whatever else he did or didn't do, the Richard Childress comments could NOT be allowed to stand. As I said a month or so ago, five minutes after he's gone, NOBODY will remember he was here. Or CARE.
NASCAR definitely needs a Mike Helton 2.0. Love him or hate him, he had a lot of respect from all sides.Compared to Mike Helton in the same role, Phelps was a no show.
You just knew his days were numbered. Today was that day.He did himself in as much as anything. No matter whatever else he did or didn't do, the Richard Childress comments could NOT be allowed to stand. As I said a month or so ago, five minutes after he's gone, NOBODY will remember he was here. Or CARE.
He doesn't OWN the company. Big difference.See the Campbell's Soup CIO.
He repped them too well one could say.I don't think Phelps misrepresented Nascar, he just said too much or more than they would want to admit.
You dont think if you went through RC's email and text you'd find the same thing? Or any other owners for that fact? But he was stupid enough to put it in an email or text
Incidentally, Jeff Gluck has posted an opinion piece on The Athletic calling for Jim France to step down and hand the reins to Ben Kennedy. And he says Ben would get expert support and guidance from the two Steves (Phelps and OD). Personally, I can't see Phelps surviving at NASCAR. I expect him to be gone before the Daytona 500.
Steve’s was went through. And that’s what was found. No what aboutism there, he wws caught. Thats the breaksYou dont think if you went through RC's email and text you'd find the same thing? Or any other owners for that fact?
Par for the course, Jim France IS the problem that came out at the trial. He said no to everything presented by the teams during negotiations on the new contract, then said take it or leave it. If he doesn't get booted from Nascar leadership role, then nothing changes. The designated fall guy. Business as usual for the France family.
It doesn't matter who runs it, fans will complain and call for their heads. The France's have a pretty remarkable 75 year resume50% done they missed a Steve. and Jim needs to resign effective immediately, hire a Steve Helton if you want.

Including BZF's tenure, running a monopoly, and buying their way out of a lawsuit. The France's have a pretty remarkable 75 year resume
BZF was a drunk among many things, but pushing those things aside he did a lot of things to move the sport forward. He signed the 1st big TV contract to pump all the money into the sport that owners are now fighting over.Including BZF's tenure, running a monopoly, and buying their way out of a lawsuit.
