He did himself in as much as anything. No matter whatever else he did or didn't do, the Richard Childress comments could NOT be allowed to stand. As I said a month or so ago, five minutes after he's gone, NOBODY will remember he was here. Or CARE.
yep, nobody put a gun to his head and forced him to say what he said. He sure didn't help Nascar's case any.

I'm sorry this is such bull****. They make such a big deal out of what he said and in reality we all know everyone on both sides has said the same crap.

Some people are big enough that it doesn't matter. (Jim France). With others it just is what it is (Car owners etc). BUT, when you are somewhere in the middle, you have to know your place, and Steve Phelps got a little too big for his britches. The owner of the company I work for can criticize our customers. The customers can criticize our owners. I'm just an an employee. My job is to keep my damn mouth shut and try to make BOTH happy.

He was nascar “Commissioner” for over 20 years. I couldn’t tell you one positive or negative thing he did for the sport. That might be more on me for not paying attention.

See the Campbell's Soup CIO.

You just knew his days were numbered. Today was that day.

I don't think Phelps misrepresented Nascar, he just said too much or more than they would want to admit.

On December 12, I posted that Phelps would be gone before Daytona, so the timing doesn't surprise me...
Incidentally, Jeff Gluck has posted an opinion piece on The Athletic calling for Jim France to step down and hand the reins to Ben Kennedy. And he says Ben would get expert support and guidance from the two Steves (Phelps and OD). Personally, I can't see Phelps surviving at NASCAR. I expect him to be gone before the Daytona 500.

As for the "business as usual for the France Family," yeah, the NASCAR statement says as much...

"There are no immediate plans to replace the Commissioner role or to seek outside leadership as the administration of his responsibilities will be delegated internally through NASCAR’s President and executive leadership team."

Translating the above corporate speak... "Jim France is running the show; he will make all important decisions; and Steve O'Donnell will continue to do what Jim tells him to do."

You dont think if you went through RC's email and text you'd find the same thing? Or any other owners for that fact?
Steve’s was went through. And that’s what was found. No what aboutism there, he wws caught. Thats the breaks

The designated fall guy. Business as usual for the France family.
Par for the course, Jim France IS the problem that came out at the trial. He said no to everything presented by the teams during negotiations on the new contract, then said take it or leave it. If he doesn't get booted from Nascar leadership role, then nothing changes.

Including BZF's tenure, running a monopoly, and buying their way out of a lawsuit.
BZF was a drunk among many things, but pushing those things aside he did a lot of things to move the sport forward. He signed the 1st big TV contract to pump all the money into the sport that owners are now fighting over.

Most owners now have given up on trying to secure sponsorship for the season and rely on that tv money to pay the bills
