Suggestions to NASCAR

I would like to see NASCAR rules to go back to weigh the car and driver together as minimum weight.
As it is the cars all weigh the same so it is to a teams advantage to hire the lightest driver they can.
Most Americans do not fit in that weight category and I believe that reduces fans ability to connect to today's drivers.
I miss people like Buddy Baker, Tiny Lund, and the like.
What is the average height and weight of the drivers scheduled to participate on the 2019 schedule, let me guess: 5' 6 and 135 lbs ? What is the average for american males between the ages of 21 to 40 ?
Let me guess, 5"10, 190 Lbs.
Something to think about.

If I'm not mistaken, NASCAR still has the rule where the drivers weigh in twice a year and that weight is taken into account on the car weight. The fact is though that lighter drivers will ALWAYS have an advantage, because even though the lighter drivers have to add ballast to compensate, the teams can put that weight lower in the car more where they want it, rather than up high in the driver's seat. You can't get around that.

I guess that's why Jeff Gordon could win, just a little fella.
I guess Dale E. car was better than we thought because it could win with all that weight.

:bsflag: we ain't talking horses, we are talking horse power. :D

One thing they could think about is to add the weight difference between the drivers and add that ballast directly under the drivers seat. That would be worth considering.
Maybe set the standard at 200 lbs, any driver weighing less would have to add the difference to under their seat. Drivers over 200 would just have to bare the consequences.

Or just leave things alone and quit trying to manipulate every darn thing.

Anybody that thinks weight doesn't matter doesn't have a clue.
If Nascar continues down this path of rewarding teams that have light weight drivers we are going to see a lot of small thin drivers which the average fans can not relate to.
I am talking not about scaling a car out, but rather how the drivers do not represent the average fan.

I looked at a few of the drivers with great records in Nascar and they were average size to me.

Do fans really say that they can't relate to NASCAR drivers because they're not fat? I can't say that I've ever heard that.

If the owners, drivers and teams make this an issue I will give it a listen.

I don't think many (if any) fans would come right out and say that. But, sure I'd like to see more bigger taller drivers at a more natural weight. 200+ isn't necessarily "fat" depending on height and muscle mass. I'm sure women nascar fans wouldn't mind either.

I can't see that being anything other than a positive for NASCAR.

On behalf of John Andretti and Scott Riggs I don’t think drivers should be taller than 5-5 and weigh no more than a buck 25:D

Is the OP hypothesizing that runt jockeys like JG have an advantage?

Does Jayski have a chart on this? :)

Well, for one thing, nearly ALL of these drivers are well conditioned athletes, so there aren't too many Jimmy Spencers or Mike Harmons coming through the ranks anymore. Also, I was a Jeff Gordon fan for his entire Cup career, and I would almost make two of him. In fact, about the ONLY thing I have in common with him is that for several years he lived in the same state I do.
