Texas Sprint Cup race thread

Kes seems to be asking Helton and Pemberton to lighten his wallet and points total. I can't wait to see what he's so pissed about.

Jeff Gordon and Stewart NEED a win.

Jr has built a cushion, his finish isn't too too bad.

Did FOX/NASCAR cave or something? At the top it says "Texas 500 Unofficial Results".

They didn't cave. Like every race, the title sponsor has to essentially pay a "premium" to get their name mentioned on TV (been like that basically since the new contract that brought ESPN in on board). Otherwise the networks (FOX or ESPN) will just refer to it as the "Venue 400/500". NRA did not buy up to get their mention. They were advertising for the Kansas race the same way, because whatever that sponsor is also didn't buy up.

I'm just retaliating for the 87 sickening, slippery, Bobby Sherman-like love threads about Joey Logano since he drove over his head and hammered the 11 car. Jus' sayin'
I'm not even gonna get into that. Just listen to Biffle. I know, it's tiring to hear about Logano, but give credit where credits due. The guy has been pushed around for years, and now he stands up for himself and drives like other drivers drive him. As a result, he is 9th in standings. Sure this new style isn't going to make some drivers or fans happy, but I know your guy knows exactly what that is like.

Kez was pissed on the Speed Channel interview. He ruffled feathers when he called out NASCAR's cash cow, Rick Hendrick, and he's paying the price ;)

That clip had an ESPN bug, there will probably be more on Sportscenter and their 'Nascar Now' afternoon show.

Sure, but Joey is no Kyle Busch. Lets see where he is at the end of he year. I really don't have anything against Joey, other than his idiot parents. Kyle was raised a spoiled brat too but I cut him slack because of his driving ability, which I believe Joey lacks. Kyle is growing up and becoming a better person, a more humble loser and a better racecar driver overall. Joey still has a lot of growing up to do. Kyle was ****ier early on in his career but his driving backed it up. In my opinion, Joey doesn't have the same cha-cha, but he sure acts like it.
Jeez, that combined with the wet Joey love-threads just turns my stomach. :D

Missed it. Whats he pissed about?

That's not just it. He told print media that NASCAR has been harassing the #2 team behind the scenes and said they're giving him a lot of "bull****" (his words). According to him, it goes way behind the trouble at inspection today.

The pit road penalty towards the end of the Martinsville race was also highly questionable.

That makes sense, but they still didn't show the six-shooters or anything as they usually would, I don't think. Stuff like that just leads me to believe they were shying away a bit.

This was different. Fox was treating the NRA like Winston- and Marlboro-sponsored NASCAR and IndyCar races got treated in the 1980s and 1990s. This was deliberate censorship of the name of the race. They were talking around it all night. The fact they didn't show the six-shooters just confirms it.

Do they ever show that on TV? Or do we see so many pics of it, that we just thought and assumed we saw it on the live broadcast?

I think we usually saw it live. Remember Kyle Busch smashing the guitar?

Or to make (wait for it) another IndyCar reference, drinking the milk at Indy? They've always shown the post-race winner's traditions.

I agree, Joey is no KB until he wins more races for sure. Do I think he is on the way? yeah...he is only 21...and 9th in standings. When KB was 21, he finished 10th in standings and 3 career wins, only 1 more than Joey. But you may have your opinion. But opinions are different than taking shots ;) I also agree that KB has definitely matured, and it shows in the standings. But like you said, let's see at the end of year. I honestly believe Joey will still be there at the end.

Ok, we will see. But figure in all three series NASCAR stats for each driver and you'll see that Joey is WAY behind.

SMART,trash your race payers!

More inspection trouble:

NASCAR determined that second place finisher #56-Martin Truex, Jr's car was "too low in the front" in postrace inspection. NASCAR will examine it further and address any possible penalties early in the week.

Ah poo. :( Truex cannot catch a break this weekend.

Crew Chief Chad Johnston says the #56 was low in inspection due to debris in one the front shocks. More mystery debris, maybe:confused:

From Truex

"It just hurts when you give them away," he said. "It's so hard to get in position to win these races. It is so hard to make your car good enough to beat Jimmie Johnson and Kyle Busch, and we had that tonight. We've got to get better at taking advantage of that. That's where we're missing and that's what we need to work on.
"Circumstances didn't play in our favor. We came in with the lead. I still feel like we should have been able to beat him out. It wasn't even close."

I'd say he's blaming the crew for that loss.

They also held him up during the Martinsville inspections, but Brad tends to see a conspiracy now and then. But nascar sure gave HMS a big break with those trick bushings they used to circumvent the rear end shift limits.

They look to be in trouble right now too. I'd really like to see Harvick in elite equipment.

Kevin and Budweiser gotta be scared right now. Hopefully Stewart Haas can get on track with their new test program.

Yeah, I don't get what in heck is going on at SHR but Stewart will soon have to make some moves, I'd think.

Brad's pissed. NASCAR will prolly end up fining him for his comments, plus fine the team for the illegal rear end housing...
Keselowski lashes out at NASCAR: #2-Brad Keselowski lashed out at NASCAR officials after Saturday's race at Texas Motor Speedway because of NASCAR inspectors forcing his team to change the rear-end housing in the #2 Ford before the race. Both cars for Penske Racing, including teammate #22-Joey Logano, had to make the change moments before the race. Logano barely made it out in time for the green flag. Logano started in the back, but finished fifth. Keselowski finished ninth. "I have one good thing to say," Keselowski said. "That's my team and effort they put in today in fighting back with the absolute bull that's been the last seven days in this garage area. The things I've seen over the last seven days have me questioning everything that I believe in, and I'm not happy about it. I don't have anything positive to say and I probably should just leave it at that."
But he didn't. Knowing major penalties are likely for his team, the defending Sprint Cup champion made his feelings clear. "There's so much stuff going on ... you have no f------ idea what's going on,'' he said. "And that's not your fault and that's not a slam on you. I could tell you there's nobody, no team in this garage with the integrity of the 2 team. And the way we've been treated over the last seven days is absolutely shameful. I feel like we've been targeted over the last seven days more than I've ever seen a team targeted. But my guys kept their heads on straight and they showcased why they are a winning team and championship team. We're not going to take it. We're not going to be treated this way."(see more at ESPN.com)(4-14-2013)

Is all this hooplah over that questionable call on the #2 team last weekend?

Be prepared for helmet cams on track/Nascar officials ;)

I do wonder why nascar waited until just before the race to raise the issue. It's not like Penske changed rear ends just before pre-race inspection. One thing is for sure, Kez is wasting that 'champions voice in the sport' he coveted with rants like this.

Now this is just an idea.. crossed my mind.. but with Brad saying "you guys have no idea what's been going on the last 7 days... there's thing's I've seen that have made me question everything I believe in...".. I'm thinking something along the lines of he just got in trouble for something someone else may have gotten away with? I have absolutely no evidence it's really just a hunch. But if NASCAR is doing something like that it would be a Lowe blow........................ I'm very curious what he's so pissed about. I'm just hoping NASCAR doesn't come down on them harder for the rear end issue because of Brad's rant.
