Texas Sprint Cup race thread

It will be interesting to see if nascar hands out some fines to Brad and the 2 team. I bet they do. Kudo's to Brad K for speaking out against them. I love his spunk and political un-correctness. :)

I think he will get one for "actions detrimental to stock car racing" by questioning the integrity of NASCAR's actions (whatever it was they did to them). I wouldn't be surprised to see them come down a bit harder for the rear end issues because of it as well. Although if NASCAR is doing something wrong they could back off a bit and avoid the situation like we all know they are great at. "Targeting the 2 team? Well, you see..the thing about that... hey look a squirrel!" LOL... I also love how BK is not afraid to call them out when he feels wronged. He may need to try to keep it less public if he wants to continue to have the backing of the sport. He is the people's champ.. but he has to play both sides or he might just get burned. I'm anxious to see how this turns out.

Now this is just an idea.. crossed my mind.. but with Brad saying "you guys have no idea what's been going on the last 7 days... there's thing's I've seen that have made me question everything I believe in...".. I'm thinking something along the lines of he just got in trouble for something someone else may have gotten away with? I have absolutely no evidence it's really just a hunch. But if NASCAR is doing something like that it would be a Lowe blow........................ I'm very curious what he's so pissed about. I'm just hoping NASCAR doesn't come down on them harder for the rear end issue because of Brad's rant.
I'll probably get the animated fisherman for this, but I've always wondered whether or not NASCAR and GM are in bed with each other, at least to a certain point. Just looking at the Championship numbers since 1976 is pretty staggering: GM 31, Ford 5, Dodge 1, Toyota 0. I know that Dodge and Toyota weren't competing all those years, but still. I wonder if Brad's bad calls the last couple of weeks have anything to do with that blue oval right above the grille.

There are way more Chevys in the field so the likelihood of Chevy getting the win is a lot more probable.

I hate to dissapoint.

If Dale Earnhardt and Hendrick Motorsports had driven Fords, the numbers would probably look a lot different. Between RCR and HMS, there's 17 championships right there.

Edit: Dale Sr. won his first championship with somebody else but you get my drift.

He musta been haulin ass to do that to it.

That's not just it. He told print media that NASCAR has been harassing the #2 team behind the scenes and said they're giving him a lot of "bull****" (his words). According to him, it goes way behind the trouble at inspection today.

Brad drives a Ford now, he probably went to their crying classes during the off season orientation. Aside from country music nobody cries any better.

Watching Speed channel right now. They're recapping the Cup race, focusing on Gordon and Jr. having mechanical issues and screwing up potentially good finishes yet they say nothing about the issues the 78 suffered even though he was faster than Jr. and Gordon.

He was nowhere near as fast as the 24. Also, Jeff and Jr were running 3rd at the time they each had issues.

I believe I actually saw footage of Kurt passing the 24 at some point.
As you well know, it doesn't matter how well you were running before something occurred that resulted in you not running well.
My point was that they focused on HMS drivers and left out others that were running just as well.
Did I over use the word, "well"?

I was at a Super Late Model race - didn't see this race but heard about Keselowski's interview and saw Kyle won.

Congratulations Kyle fans -- if he keeps his head on his shoulders this year, he could easily win 12+ races in Cup this year. Matt Kenseth is key to his success IMO - Kenseth might help him keep his head screwed on.

UPDATE: Martin Truex Jr. faces a possible six-point penalty for the front of his car being too low following his second-place finish in the NRA 500 Saturday at Texas Motor Speedway. Crew chief Chad Johnston said the shocks on Truex's car would not rebound after the race. "We tried to pull the shaft out of the body, and it's just (stuck)," he said. "There's something going on, whether it's debris (inside) or parts and pieces of the shock." NASCAR will announce any penalties in the next few days. Being too low in tech cost Kyle Busch six points in 2011 and a $25,000 fine for his crew chief.

After years of many of us saying "this could be his year", I agree. All he has to do is keep his head and let it fall into place.

This is a bit surprising:

Overnight Texas TV Ratings: Saturday's NASCAR Sprint Cup NRA 500 from Texas Motor Speedway earned a 3.5 overnight rating on FOX, down a tick from last year (3.6), and down 5% from 2011 (3.7). Excluding rainouts, the 3.5 overnight is the lowest ever for the spring Texas race (dates back to 1997). As recently as 2007, when the race was still run on a Sunday afternoon, coverage earned a 5.4 overnight. The 3.5 also ranks as the lowest overnight of the season for any NASCAR Sprint Cup race. The previous low was a 4.0 for the Martinsville race one week earlier. Overall, the NRA 500 ranks as one of the lowest rated NASCAR telecasts ever on FOX in the metered markets; the all-time NASCAR on FOX record-low is a 3.3 overnight. The race still ranked as the top non-golf sporting event of the weekend on broadcast television.

And the 48 would be the most penalized team because?

On a similar note, Greg Biffle was asked by Dave Despain on Wind tunnel if he thought the new Gen 6 cars were fair, Dave made a joke about how you had to watch what you say per Denny Hamlin, pointing out Fords lack of winning compared to the Toyotas and Chevys. First thing out of his mouth was "no they aren't". But the next sentence he blamed it on his team, and how he and Carl were talking about how they just needed a little something to be fast enough..he didn't say what though. The new car has opened up an old can of worms from way back when. There were all kinds of moaning and groaning going on about which brand was more aero slippery than the other. That brought on the identical blob cars. So whats different? nothing as far as teams trying to get the advantage over others. The car tech has changed though. They are catching teams out of specs quicker. I think they were able to catch the 2 and the 22 at the tech station instead of catching the twisted rear end after the race. They also had the parts out on display so other teams could go by and look at what they caught the Penske team doing. I don't personally think that one brand gets a wink and a nod and the other brands don't. Too many retired crew chiefs around that would tell all if it was that way in the past.

Right on, man. I hated the common template body era of NASCAR. I was excited when they announced they would go back to unique body styles for the Gen 6. I was even more excited when I read that Chevrolet and Ford had come out with the SS and redesigned the Ford Fusion to be more aerodynamic for NASCAR. Reminded me of the days of the Dodge Charger Daytona, Plymouth Superbird and Ford Torino Talladega when manufacturers would make a few thousand badass production cars to meet homologation requirements (sometime that still happens with motorcycles and World Superbikes, see the BMW S1000RR and Kawasaki ZX-14R).

Unfortunately, my hopes were dashed, when last year there was a story on Jayski about NASCAR doing hundreds of hours of wind tunnel testing to make sure all three makes had aerodynamic parity. Boooo! So, we have the aerodynamic equivalent of the common template bodies, but they look like their street prototypes. And Chevrolet and Ford made slightly racier looking street cars to make their slightly racier looking NASCAR machines.

Trust me ,you do not want to see three completely different body styles racing .A tweek of the spoiler is needed to keep all of them on the same lap.Great job , Nascar. I'll take close racing any day .

I haven't had a problem with anything that has happened this year as far as the car goes. I think that it's hard to pass at the 1.5's but no car shape is going to stop the air from bouncing around when a car punches through it. It's really just simple physics.. the new cars are great IMO. I like the closing rate, it may be hard to pass at certain speeds but every time the leader has caught lap cars they bunch back up and the 3rd 4th 5th etc catch right back up. It's just that at the 1.5 and 2 mile tracks it takes longer to catch the back of the pack and the cars are spread out by then. I've seen some of the best racing I've ever seen for the lead at a few tracks this year. I think they need to work on the plate track package a bit but other than that the Gen 6 car gets 2 big thumbs up from me.
