The Announcers Thread

Austin Cindric is a quality announcer compared to some other “star” Cup drivers, JMO.

Sure looks like Joey is being groomed for the booth

Eh. I have a lot of respect for Joey’s driving ability, but he’s beyond goofy in the booth sometimes.

I don’t feel like I hear him say spicy takes like Kyle Petty.

But FOX loves that goofiness to a different extent with Bowyer.

I am going to keep my eye on Bowyer and Harvick. I sense
a little muted friction between the two from time to time. Its still early
but its quite possible by 5 races in, one of them is going to let a serious
"you dont know what you are talking about!" fly.

Bowyer’s arm itches a bit.

Harvick made the booth sound better than it has in a while. Too bad the pit reporters still lag way behind NBC's pit reporters.

I finished a post on the IndyCar thread regarding Fox possibly picking up that series. It occurred to me that my post was close regarding HOW Fox covers racing, but that I'd missed WHY.

Fox covers NASCAR the way it does because the production team thinks 'Talladega Nights' is a documentary.

Here’s a blast from the past. Low key, One of my favorite nascar announcers ever. Looks like he might have some time openings for the Amazon series next year

I do not understand why Fox and NBC insist on certain shticks that fans hate.

Fox insists on having the goofy skits and having to have someone in the booth who is unserious, tries too hard to be funny, and overall lowers the quality of the broadcast.

NBC loves having a broadcast booth that is relentless and doesn't give the telecast a chance to breathe.

They think NASCAR fans are a bunch of stupid rednecks.

They also promote the races with nothing but video of wrecks. It's just an insult to anyone with intelligence at least for me it is. I'm a "race" fan, not a "wrecks" fan.

Hopefully the Atlanta Cup finish will provide some new promotion footage but I highly doubt it.

This was the best promo/intro:

No wrecks, no cars flipping over and over, just clips of good hard racing.

Junior is taking 2024 off and leaving for Amazon/TNT next year. Big move for the new TV partners.

Time for NBC to burn it down and start from scratch next season imo.

Yeah, NBC's going to need to refresh that booth to remain relevant.

Big score for Amazon and WB Discovery.

Junior has a bunch of interests and if he’s gonna do TV, you bet he won’t go cheap. Amazon no doubt made an offer NBC couldn’t touch. And fewer races too, yea?

This will be interesting to see how it plays out. I know he said that this contract with NBC required Steve to be part of the team. Is he the next domino to fall?

Yeah. NBC lost probably the best part of their broadcast. Not sure if I call it a fumble on NBCs part, depends on the money involved. But Amazon/TNT really got a good one here

I wouldn't blame NBC for losing Junior. Given how streaming services are competing for market share at whatever loss of $$ necessary, I'm sure Amazon paid Dale Jr whatever he wanted.

Replaced with 2 newcomers is interesting. There's already too many talking heads, imo.

DJD used to be on Peacock before his contract expired and hasn’t been since, very possible Amazon gave him an even bigger platform for that and the other Dirty Mo podcasts.

I’m just hoping if he moves there it stays like it’s been on YouTube with the full video podcast. Always hated nbc and peacock had shorter episodes. Since moving to YouTube here a few weeks or so ago, the videos the full episodes and I like that.

Gone...but not forgotten.
