The Announcers Thread

$30 for one year.

I believe

Do you know if people can still stream races illegally or has that been shut down? It’s not something I would consider but I’ve heard of people doing at least a few years ago,

You can, just got to look it up on Reddit.

I have to do that for Xfinity because I can't get CW here.

How do you like the new MotoGP graphics @HoneyBadger ?

Did anyone else have a lot of bad stuttering issues watching on the CW yesterday? Only channel doing it for me (thru Hulu live). Every 30 seconds or so it would hiccup or glitch.

Anyone who watches CARS Tour already knows this but Eric Brennan is the next great announcer. Just fantastic on FS1 tonight.

Hopefully we’re just a few years away from having Leigh Diffey, Adam Alexander and Eric Brennan calling Cup races. Three of the best.

As Gluck said...I'm just going to stream it from less then legal sources. I had downloaded the app when they said it be there.

Maybe it was just my mood, but I couldn't watch the first half of the Xfinity race yesterday live. I switched over to a recording of the last Cup stage at Atlanta, so I could FF through parts of the Phoenix Xfinity race later. The audio quality seemed really bad and at times there were commercials just minutes apart. Maybe I have also missed this somewhere, but I never caught the ticker at the bottom scrolling beyond the 25th place. Yes, sometimes I am actually interested in a driver running back there and when I am not watching live I can't go to the NASCAR app for the live leader board. At one point or maybe more, they had two boxes on the screen both airing the same cars racing. Not sure what that was all about??? I thought Fox was bad, but maybe my expectations are just too high.

The amount of commercials, especially early in the race was just insane. Yes they were side by side but the race was the small side.

So we can’t blame a lack of knowledge and experience.
Nope, they had little if any control over the Atlanta affiliate that decided a commercial was a good idea to show during the last lap, or my Tulsa affiliate that was showing Tulsa Times programming instead of the race.

Did NASCAR botch the return from commercial when we had the race on two small windows for a while? That's the kind of thing that can't be pinned on lack of affiliate control or on CW at the network level. There have also been several cases where the booth is talking about one driver while a second one is on screen.

Those are the kinds of things that can't be blamed on a lack of knowledge or experience. Indeed, several times Sunday Fox talked about a driver while highlighting a different one on the pylon.

I've commented many times that the announcers for CW live in a different world. The gerbils do the same thing. They have their spiels, opinions on how to race, what they think the driver is thinking and it has absolutely nothing to do with the racing that is happening on the track. I had the stream go to swirls twice watching the X race, others had different problems. I'm not whining, but it's to be expected with a new entry into the racing coverage. I would think it will get better?

Let's not even get started on how often Fox just pans to kids in the stands...it's gotten to a weird level.

How about last week at COTA when Busch and Bell were racing for the lead and we get a drone or helicopter shot where a set of grandstands totally blocked off the battle? That was all-time bad.

Artie Kempner revolutionized NASCAR coverage when FOX came on board and, for years, NASCAR on FOX was the gold standard not just for NASCAR coverage but for sports coverage in the United States.

But that was 20 years ago. The last 10 years... actually, going back to 2008 and that ******* cartoon groundhog, it's been a steady decline.

It's time for change there. Artie Kempner needs to retire. He deserves a proper send off and gratitude for what he brought to NASCAR coverage. But he's still got to go.

Not sure how it will be with 2 retired drivers in the booth for Prime. Doesn't always work the greatest for Fox. Jr is relevant in the sport on a daily basis. Carl left and went into witness protection.

Carl's not in the booth he's studio analyst.

Having retired drivers in the booth was fine when Benny Parsons and Ned Jarrett were on ESPN, Darrell Waltrip was on FOX, BP and Wally Dallenbach were on NBC/TNT, and so on.

Clint Bowyer is the worst color commentator I think NASCAR's ever had. His shtick was entertaining for two months.

Something I picked up on this season with Bowyer: He dramatically amplifies any "mistake" in the booth because he has this thing where he loves to see Mike and Kevin be wrong about something and loves to call it out quite boisterously. Like, I've noticed it but always thought it was just Clint being obnoxious, but now, I think it's actually much worse than that. I've seen so many people calling for Mike Joy to be fired and talking about Harvick too, and it's really because, if they say a car will lose spots on old tires and that car doesn't, Bowyer just has to gloat about them being wrong. It goes far beyond the usual banter we've seen in the past and makes the entire booth look uneducated and uninformed.

Does The CW have its own production crew and equipment?
Game Creek, FOX,NEP , NBC& NASCAR Productions
Game Creek supplies the bulk of the production trucks... It's up to the Networks to supply some talent .(Producers, Technical Directors, Field Crews).
The TV Compound is a who's who of production companies.

Here's some of the Bristol Compound during our 2019 night race visit. Quite the mix of companies. PRN is in there too...
Game Creek, NBC, NEP, NASCAR Productions.

I wish NASCAR Productions would just take over everything. Hire NBC’s production team and let’s roll.
I agree the FOX production room seems to be run by the local high school audio visual club. But these type of articles are annoying.
An article by a senior reporter for several media companies that quotes sources such as "one said", "another wrote" and a "third said" will not get me reading to the end.

Stick n ballers almost never see an infraction in real time, almost always in replays. The same herd watching the races goes wild when the same thing happens during a race lol.
