The Announcers Thread

Maybe time for this broadcaster to rewrite its affiliate agreements.

The blame falls squarely on NASCAR with all this. They took the money and didn't care if they'd be prioritized.

This TV deal was destined to be a disaster, and sure enough, it has been.

NASCAR won't care since Xfinity ratings are up, especially now that Cup is experiencing historic ratings declines because the majority of the races are on cable only.

The blame falls on CW for lying to people.

I know it was in the original announcement, but did CW say that or did NASCAR say that?

NASCAR was STILL saying it was live on the app after it was known it would not be.

And NASCAR apparently doesn't have it written in contracts that these networks have to deliver everything they've promised.

From my understanding, the only reason FOX is launching a streaming app is because it was written into the IndyCar contract.

I stream on fox sports app all the time.

CW cuts out and hiccups non stop. No other channel is doing it so it’s on them.

I bet, if they put the races on the app, the viewing experience would be just fine.

Again, I'm a veteran CW viewer. I knew this would go down this badly because of that. I always had to use the app next day to watch nice cute pretty Supergirl because I either didn't have a CW affiliate or it was SD-only.

Yeah, but if Cup races were on broadcast Fox, the Fox affiliates would be doing the same thing the CW ones are - overriding the races to show the local teams - college basketball tournaments, baseball, etc. Living as both you and I do in NC, I'm extremely grateful Sunday's race was on FS1 with no local affiliates involved.

In a better world, everything from a source would be available across all platforms and deliver methods. I'm guessing one reason some stuff isn't is because streaming is much easier to steal than cable.

Sounds like you may be talking from experience? ;) :punkrocke

Many many moons ago, before white man come to this land, when buffalo cover prairie and pigeon blacken sky, feared sky gods called 'Joined in Progress', 'Tape Delayed', and evil 'Pre-empted' roamed the land and kept Viewers of Circuits tribe from observing sacred rituals.

Network affiliates suck. Cable channels are much better than broadcast networks for sports that have to compete against for air time on a weekly basis against local teams. The affiliates are always going to show the local teams because that's what the locals want to see (big shock, I know), no matter how bad the team is.

I've been screaming this from the rooftops for 25 years, but most just don't want to hear it. From the original TV deal, all NASCAR was concerned about was the size of the check. Whether the fine print favored NASCAR or not was in my opinion NEVER a consideration. NASCAR took an opportunity back in the day when they had leverage second only to the NFL and completely fumbled it. We are still reaping what THEY sowed.
