The Clash at Daytona-- RACE THREAD

I see. Sounds just like an inexperienced move on Bowman's part.
However, Logaano gapped them A LOT down the backstretch which suggested an already significant difference in speed, probably because Joey didnt have to lift as much to avoid Brad and Denny, I'm guessing.

Bowman probably thought Joey was gone, so he decided to try to pass the car in front of him. If they locked up, they wouldnt have caught Joey. Not a big deal
Joey said he saw the writing on the wall when the #2 went down low and Hamlin started to close. He was proactive and never had to lift. He was gapping them all the way down the backstretch.

This is the gap as it started. The 18 backed up to hook up with the 88 but Bowman turned and stalled him out instead. I wont lie though the 18 seemed extra slow like he might of expected a caution.

That makes it look convincing until you add in the x factor: how much faster Joey was traveling than Busch and Bowman after the wreck that extended the gap going into 3.

Thats coming.. Unfortunately it cant be soon enough for this guy lol
Its unreal he doesn't have one. I wonder if Ford would've adopted SHR had Joey pulled one or two off? With an elimination format the number of cars is more important than ever.

I think SHR took that initiative.. I believe they wanted to get out of the Hendrick stable.. Im curious to see how they do making their own chassis' now.. Also I think theyre getting engines straight from Ford instead of Roush like Penske does.

That bit about the engines is interesting. If its true I'm looking forward to the competition between the two.

Chad Knaus said they would probably poach some chassy guys from HMS. That plus HMS probably needed to downsize in that area anyway.

They are getting their engines from Roush-Yates

Yes, SHR is the one that started talks with Ford.

Joey will be a champion before its over ............ I enjoy his "go for broke" style ........... a total unwillingness to just ride around and do nothing

Between 2 gibbs guys taking him out 2 years in a row he might have had atleast 1.

I never get excited.................

Try reading some racing news. The Roush/Yates motors have been written of, broadcast by radio/television from the time the first announcement SHR was dropping HMS for Ford.
Ok so I was wrong.. Whoopty doo lol not a big deal really I duno why ur so amused

I was watching the gap.. He was pulling away a few hundreds every time it changed.. With a gap that big there was no way they would have caught him not to mention ppl seem to be forgetting that Joey would have blocked the hell out of them anyway.

Clash was good. JGR Toyota's still look strong, Ford's look much improved, but the Chevys really didn't show much. Last couple years HMS cars have just got loose out of no where at Daytona.

As for the Busch/Bowman thing, Kyle was right. I didn't see anything wrong with what he said to Bowman after the race either. Bowman is a young driver and that right there was a teaching moment. He seemed to kind of brush it off though with his comment about Kyle not helping him all day. Not sure how Kyle was going to give him any help earlier when he was hanging around the back with the other Chevys. What it comes down to is Bowman was fine with 2nd when he could have had a chance at 1st and Kyle was just letting him know.

Bowman could have told Kyle to tuck in and push him him to the front.
...
The post race scold was an attempted power play by Kyle. Glad Bowman wasnt too impressed.
