The Clash

I’m not interested in fake road courses. If they want road courses then there are options at real road courses. Rovals aren’t road courses.

I hate the IMS Road Course but to call it a fake road course is comical.

So fake that it's been there for over 30 years and has hosted F1, MotoGP, and IMSA.

It doesn’t matter how long it’s been there. It’s a fake road course.
Road America, Sonoma, Watkins Glen…those are real road courses.

"During hurricane season." 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

So a race that is rained out basically every year should continue to be run on that date because Daytona Beach might get hit by a hurricane in September? Most of the hurricanes that are supposed to hit the Daytona Beach area slip into the gulf stream, ride up the coast and North Carolina instead. Hurricane Ian was a literally unprecedented disaster. And I'm sure, if the Coke/Pepsi/Firecracker 400 was facing the threat of a hurricane, it would get moved.

The Brickyard 400 is another perfect example of fans not knowing what they want. How many years did the majority of fans, myself included TBH, say that race was boring and didn't watch? How many years did fans talk about wanting that race to be run on the road course instead?

The "plate races" get the highest ratings and fans have been wanting more of them until they got more of them.

Fans hated Auto Club Speedway and wanted it taken off the schedule until the reconfiguration announcement.

We're two years away from fans claiming Texas was the best race of the year because of that one good finish between Jeff Burton and Matt Kenseth like 15 years and three generations of racecar ago.

I’ve never hated the Brickyard oval. I would love to find a post on this forum or whatever other one lol indicating I wanted it gone.

And yes, I would rather go to Daytona in July & deal with a rainout, I think every fan that went then planned on rain being a factor. To think the August Daytona race was a success in 2022 seems daft to me.

Atlanta as a regular season finale at night would be good for the ratings.

We're not rooting against its success. We're questioning the effectiveness of this event to turn casual viewers into motorsports fans. I'm still waiting on numbers showing how many of the people who had last year's Clash as their first exposure to stock car racing, turned around and watched another race all season.
You really care about that? You arent on the board of Fox or NASCAR, you are a fan watching the race. Grab a beer or a non alcoholic beverage and invite friends over. Grill out, make it an event at your house, we do it all the time and you know what? People have a good time, we really dont worry about things you stated above because it really doesnt matter.

NASCAR basically took Bowman Gray Stadium to Los Angeles and hosted an exhibition race there and y'all are up in arms.

An exhibition race. Not a points race. Not a playoff race. But a preseason exhibition race.
100%....but it's LA....not the south.....grandsons didn't watch anything with grandpas there.....you know....good ole boy narrative. **** that. It's fun.

Watch the race and have fun!
But see, I don't know that the masses know how. I get it. I have never been to a race, and regretted it. Evaluating the quality of a race is dumb....but I do love doing it in remembrance of Johali FWIW....but taking it seriously like Gluck's poll is stupid. Set them up, gas them up, and let's go. How in the hell could it ever be wrong to fire up a 600 horsepower monster? I would pay to listen to them at idle. Competition is the thrill of the possibility of victory. Every ****** race is a competitive endeavor worth enjoying.

Nothing else to add!

Lovely. First I'm accused of wishing NASCAR will be unsuccessful, then I'm lectured for being interested in its success. :XXROFL:

I didnt lecture, I asked you a question. "You're questioning the effectiveness" and "still waiting on the numbers". I have no idea what this has to do with the quality of racing. It does give you reasons to complain....... for nothing.

The truth is NASCAR has millions of fans and they have different opinions, and thats fine. But the weird thing to me is how everyone wants to get caught up in the business end of the sport, who cares!? Watch the race and have fun!

Many of the same people are the ones who gripe no matter what NASCAR does.

Some of the same people who wanted more short tracks and road courses are complaining about losing Chicagoland and California being converted. People who said the Clash was a pointless gimmick race that tears up cars are mad it's not at Daytona anymore. People who wanted Road America taken off the schedule now want it back.

There are a lot of fans who want different things, but there are also a lot of fans who don't know what they want and won't be happy until Dale Earnhardt is brought back from the dead using the Resurrection Stone from the Harry Potter series.

The sport is definitely having a bit of an identity, I don't want to say "crisis" but more like trying to figure out exactly what it will be long term, IMO, which is why I think it's more crucial than ever to have an open mind about new things NASCAR tries.

One could always go over to the TV thread for a good laugh speaking of caught up, or ate up I can't tell which.

25 or 30 gleaming hot rods snarling around a snot-bowl racetrack in front of grandstands filled with screaming race fans in The LA Colosseum.

What in hell is NASCAR thinking? 😎

The ratings were up at a 2.0 mile racetrack that was delayed over an hour.

I love short track racing but unless they change the car I don't want to add anymore of what we saw the past year.

I'm from WI and will admit I could really care less about racing at RA, however being that they consistently packed RA it makes no sense to me to take it away for a street course is Chicago.

The Clash in LA makes zero sense to me as California is on the forefront of trying to ban gas powered cars. So why we taking a bunch of fuel eating race cars there to run them around inside a football field?

And for the above reasons is why I just don't understand the decisions the sanctioning body makes.....

I’m still amused why people like to lump Road America, Chicagoland, Chicago Street all into the same conversation over and over and over again when it’s not the only option for both Wisconsin & Chicagoland to both get a race.

Then again NASCAR loves comparisons so I see the reasoning.

I actually really like the LA Clash, but now, with them tearing down Fontana, the Coliseum is just gonna be another race.

Well thats if they keep it there. I think it moves.

Im legit curious. What stadium actually works? Estadio Azteca in Mexico City?

The LA Coliseum has had a long history with Mickey Thompson, Supercross, Stadium Trucks, X Games Rally, etc.

A lot of NFL stadiums and soccer stadiums look cramped for floor space. Just look at the peristyle & how the LA Coliseum is constructed.

They’re already working on the car for short tracks and road courses.

The crowd is the only reason Road America should have a race. I’d rather them race there than the IMS Road Course.

All the complaining about California EVs is fun and games until NASCAR goes electric.

So is your point that all sports' fans bitch like NASCAR's?
More or less

I guess you haven’t seen much on Reddit the past few years about complaining haha
CFB fans are the most existential I know. Baseball probably next most. Rob Manfred doesn’t have any apologists. CFB fans typically fall into pretty strong polar opposites, lots of regional simps.

Soccer stadiums definitely work best. Estadio Azteca would be a good one. Could honestly see it in the Middle East or southern Iberia some years down the line too.

I’m truly going to miss Fontana. 75 feet wide, multiple grooves, slippery surface, 2 mile length. I’ve been going there since 97.
I remember Kurt one year going into 3 running the bottom at 217. Some incredible races there over the years. The trucks were awesome there.
Winston West cars; Kevin driving for Connie and Wayne in 97(?)
Good times.

So, have you ever heard a college football fan or a baseball fan talk about the quality of the game? That is different from the way the game is run.

I agree 100%. About went over the edge of the grandstands when KB won going around Denny and Joey in 2013...and then did it again in 2014. I pissed off a lot of the haters in '13, but I had beers with those same guys in '14. KB's 200th was awesome in '19....MTJ dominant in '18. Great times, great venue, great people.....Love the speed. I will be coming to the new track, but it will take some getting used to. One last shot in February....can't wait!

You know what though.....that history was before the remodel for the most part.

Quite often.
I really haven't....unless their team loses, and then it makes sense. When a NASCAR fan's team loses, they bitch about the quality of the event. That's wrong. They should bitch about the unfair ****** advantage the ****** Chevys were handed in 2020-2021! LMAO. Settle down....just having some fun!

You haven’t heard about the pitch clock and pace of play in baseball recently, seriously?
