Having attended football games in below freezing temps and races in the 40’s there is no comparison. At a race you are basically passively sitting the entire time and once the cold sets in there isn’t much you can do. In comparison at a football game you are on your feet actively engaging and cheering. But hey, I live in South Florida so my perspective is a bit different.

But this is increasingly looking like it will be a once-in-a-lifetime event in North Carolina.

Anyone who lives in North Carolina knows Ethan's a very good resource during severe weather events, especially after his work during Hurricane Helene.

For reference: Winston is 30 miles west of Greensboro. The totals might be a little bit lower there, but only a little bit.

When I talk about what I'm getting, I'm about 15 miles east of Jacksonville, basically right on the Atlantic Ocean.

I willing sit in a tree stand for hours barely moving for hours on end, sometimes from daylight to dark in temperatures well below freezing. Its just a matter of showing up prepared.

Yep, as I predicted. They have it scheduled, and will wait, and wait, and wait, and wait, until they’ve got a clear track, mostly clear roads, and sub freezing temps. Admire anyone willing to go in spite of all this, but I’d have my tickets on a broker’s site.
 
Same one's crying today cried when it was in sunny California, and none of them will be attending either race. Typical. Happy Nascar season, enjoy!
 
Yep I think so too unless it snows. But as they say, if not then, then the next day or the next day etc. Fox's dance card isn't that full apparently. No podunk U vs, homer state for the goldie bowl championship of district 1 ought 4-3 schedule conflicts.

I hope, if it's Monday night, it's on big FOX. Might even be a bigger ratings draw.

NBC's going to clean shop on Sunday night.

You didn't live here in 1989. Southeastern coast got 15 inches two days before Christmas under similar storm conditions. It stayed cold enough that the snow was still around four days later.

Besides, the west end of the state gets heavy falls regularly.

I can't speak for other North Carolinians but I don't have the gear to sit in those conditions for hours. It's not worth the money for garments I'd only wear a few days a year. Same logic as why many in the northern tier of states don't have central air conditioning.

Id much rather sit home drinking a beer watching the Clash at Daytona, than freezing my ass off to watch a less exciting race than mini stocks at Bowman Grey

If those were my only two choices, I'd go with Daytona too. I don't plan to watch the Clash regardless of when it's run. I'm more interested in how NASCAR and FOX will handle the weather situation than I am in the race itself.

Yeah, I think we got two inches down here from that one. That's the one where the younger terrier saw snow for the first time. Poor mutt ran around for ten minutes wanting to pee but unable to smell any of her preferred spots. The older one doesn't care where she goes so she just squatted four feet off the deck. The younger one finally homed in on that spot. I expect the younger one may have the same issue this weekend.
