THE CLASH

Some of the latest model runs have brought the snow totals down in Central NC as a dry slot is expected to form, and pushing higher totals up in the east.

A very rare "Extreme Cold" Watch has been posted for basically the entire state into Sunday morning. Though Sunday evening, wind chill values will warm up to a balmy 15°.

Tech cars 5 miles away and then expect nothing to change?
I wondered about that. Are they going to have tech inspectors ride in the back of the haulers? Or maybe NASCAR figures there isn't much that can be done to improve performance under these conditions. I'd bet even Cheatin' Chad didn't have notes for these circumstances.

Just run time trials from the fairgrounds to the track, one lap around, and back to the fairgrounds.

There were concerns from all sorts of people about trying to pull this race off on a permanent basis back when they announced the move from LA to Bowman Gray. It seems pretty wild to me that they just never thought to have a contingency plan in case it was super cold or snowing in January.

Bowman Gray was a placeholder because Brazil fell through.

I think Bowman Gray should be the All Star Race, though the rumor is they want to take that to a variety of short tracks such as Hickory.

The positive momentum NASCAR has right now can be completely lost by forcing a race in these super cold conditions. I hope someone will show some sense and cancel/postpone/reschedule this one. They don't need a nationally televised 💩 show.

Is it possible for me to lose momentum while watching from my recliner? I mean I am not going to have to wear my long handles will I ?

Obviously the sample size is a bit low but arctic air breaking south and causing havoc in the continental US seems to be a nearly annual occurrence now. I can't see how it would fix this issue.

Now, having said that, and with the understanding that Summer comes with different weather threats: seems like if NASCAR is committed to playoffs forever and ever amen that perhaps you bookend the summer with all star events. Why not do one between the end of the regular season and the playoffs kinda like how the Pro Bowl happens before the Super Bowl now?

Because it's going to be 81° in Riyadh and 85° in Rio de Janeiro tomorrow.
