Just did a fast run-through of the LCQ. Last laps were fun to watch.
Lookin thru this thread, some already are sharping their knives on each other.
Or maybe you’ve had a rough off season.

That requires deductive reasoning. Most of them just feed off each other. They are going to whine no matter what. First race of the season, the weather, officiating, coverage, fertile field for the complainers to play the blame game. Why they watch at all is always the puzzle. Mental illness?

These teams spend tens of millions of dollars on engineering, wind tunnel time, and elite technology. Then we take the "top tier" of racing and put them in a stadium to crawl around at 70mph in the sleet and rain?

It didn’t look like the best drivers in the world. It looked like guys who had no clue how to drive, sliding around in slow motion. When I was out there, the goal was to showcase speed and horsepower. Now, we’re starting the season with million-dollar bumper cars in a parking lot. It makes the "elite" level of our sport look amateur.
Is this really how we want to kick off a season? By throwing away all that engineering just for a "spectacle"?
I’m curious—do you want to see the best of the best actually racing, or do you just want to see million-dollar cars bumping into each other at highway speeds? Let me have it in the comments.

Just because he's Jeremy Mayfield doesn't mean he's automatically wrong.
 
Suarez competing the whole second half and finishing a solid 4th was a pleasant surprise. Maybe things will be a bit better with his new team than expected.

Hoping for the best for him.

But I’ll try to not read too much into last nights freak of a race.

He had some words of wisdom and appreciation for the enthusiasm from the fans at Bowman Gray and was in good spirits when he was interviewed. Optimistic for the coming season.

I agree that Bowman Gray isn't a great fit for Cup cars. I'm thinking you need a minimum of 3/8ths of a mile with some banking, or a 1/2 mile for a flat track.

But it is just the Clash, and it will always just be another exhibition race. I have never given those races as much attention, so running at BG is less of a concern.

In a perfect world, I think doing 38 points-paying races without the exhibition races would be better. I would keep the Thursday qualifying races at Daytona.

I would also run the two additional points paying races at floating locations or on a rotational basis. It would be two races at the old short tracks with 3/8 mile minumum.

It would have a Field of Dreams vibe, with one of the biggest shows in the world rolling into a kid's backyard. The wow factor and heroes would be established in impressionable minds after seeing a couple of big shows as a kid. It would be a win-win investment.
