I keep picturing him with a weed eater cutting grass out of cracks in the track and the whole thing looked like it needed to be bulldozed. He has to be pinching himself. Of course a whole lot of people also made this happen to but if he didnt pull off that cars tour race its not happening.

Safe to say this is the Xfinity race he runs next year…
Oh yeah, if it’s on the Xfinity schedule, he damn sure will be doing it.

I was like 5 the last time nascar raced here, and I was already a fan and watching it with my dad. But I don’t really remember it. But I seen old races on YouTube and honestly am excited.

It’s stuff like this that without a doubt proves Jr rightfully is in the Hall of Fame. He didn’t exactly light the world on fire in Cup, but besides winning the biggest race there is twice, and his two Busch Championships. He’s given so much back to the sport, and done so much good.

Supposedly a 3 day weekend with Cup being the main event. Trucks rumored but haven’t heard a thing about Xfinity. In the other thread people are throwing names around like Jeff Gordon to race in the All Star Race, I don’t buy it. I could see those fellas like that MAYBE racing in an Xfinity race which brings me back to your point, this will be the one Southern Jesus races in if there is in fact an Xfinity race at Wilkesboro.

And to think it all started with his weed eater. :D
Yeah, I gotta admit, that weed whacker should be in the HOF.

Oh my Lawd! once the Gerbils hear about the weedeater they are never going stop talking about it.
The nightmares are already setting in, I can feel it coming

They will be doing filler stories about some kid that weedeated his way to his Papa's shop overtaken by kudzu and weeds. How it inspired and revived his Papa and how they built a late model together using only the scrap that was discovered under the brush as the kid cleaned up almost all of the Tri-County area with his blessed weedeater on his way racing glory.

He started his career with a WEED EATER!!

Obviously, I never rooted for Junior when he drove. Post retirement, I have grown to absolutely love the guy. He has such a passion for the sport. Just awesome.

Dang, Iove Junior. What a credit to this sport. I mean that.

WOW!! Somebody is up early this morning. ;)

To get to the nitty gritty of what is said here, why not go back to teams qualifying for every race. No more charters or franchise.
Every business makes choices that have shortcomings and the charter system, while it sounded good at the beginning, has faults.
Racing would continue to evolve if times went back to qualify and you're in. There are no guarantees in life. NASCAR pays an agreed percentage with payout adjusted to actual number of participants allowing forty potential starting positions, with one provisional out of the forty, per race for a team that fails to qualify but has participated in all races to date.
A conundrum intended to make readers think, good? or bad idea? :idunno:

I listened to what Jr. and Kelly said before the decision was made to virtually make charters lifetime franchises similar to the stick n ball models. I don't think either system will ever give some teams enough mony to satisfy them. Like Jim France said, it's an arms race. I like Jr.s idea the best where there is some serious skin in the game, something fans can understand.

Dale and Kelly are such assets to this sport.

I think Dale Jr. nailed the value of a pay-for-performance model versus the charter system. But the charters are here and probably will never go away.

A strictly performance-based compensation system would necessitate certain stipulations. Something like a requirement to complete 95% of assigned laps to prevent any start and park manipulation

I also think something would be needed to limit top-heavy purses. A car that finishes in the top 25 in almost every case spends a lot of money for the ability. If something like 75% of the purse is going to the top five or top ten finishers, the system will eventually drain out the needed mid-packers that only make the top 20 on a good day.

Mid-packers are needed, and they are more than just filler material if one wants to maintain quality and the quantity with something like 40 car fields.

I personally think the model should be taking care of something like the 30 best teams or cars. That would be a good system of treating the ones you can count on in an ethical manner. But it also leave some room for outsiders, new money, people etc to work their way into a top 30 status.

The devil is in the details; it wouldn't be an exact science, and it will never be exactly perfect. Something that could meet 90% of the goals would be about as perfect as one could ever reasonably expect.

II
It would also force the teams to give up their charters, and NASCAR to provide a greater percentage of the TV money or overall revenues to the teams per increased purses.

It will never happen; there are too many moving parts to synchronize or forces to get a working consensus. We have got what we got.
