The Hammer has fallen.. Kez, Logano and Company

Seems harsh to me. Nascar probably doesnt want the blow back from another shut up fine (Brad) so they slapped him and Joey.
Really didnt agree with Brads yapping but Nascar over slapped imo.

ah, they busted Hendrick about the same when they monkeyed with the COT . Chad ans Jimmy had about the same penalty, BUT Gordon and his crew chief got off if I remember right. Joey and his crew chief took a hit to on this penalty.

Sucks for Logano, this drops him from 9th to 14th in points. Brad can better take the hit because he's higher up in points, but this puts a hurtin' on Joey's Chase aspirations.

Ouch, gotta feel for Penske. That's way too strict in my opnion -- a 3 race crew chief ban and the docking of 10 driver points would have done the same thing.

Is it time to get out the Black Helicopter? Were they tricked by the 48 team? Payback?

Hornaday penalty was a good call. Inconsistent with what they did to Kyle after Darlington 2011 (when Kyle wrecked Harvick under caution) but looks like they weighed it on it's own merit.

I laughed at Denny Hamlin's tweet earlier when he asked if he could have the docked points.

Just more of a challenge. I think it'll make him better if he can move forward and still compete the way he has been.

This is a quote from a Marty Smith tweet.
If I took a big bite out of somebodys butt last year I believe I would be smart enough not to expose my own butt for them to take a bigger bite out of this year, somebody, to put it mildly, screwed the pooch.

Yes, the rule states that the mounting point and bolt have to be proper size.(Meaning the bolt has to size of hole) Having the mounting hole egg shaped or bigger will allow the rear end to move and "yaw" more then allowed. The penalty fits the crime in my view and is consistent (or as consistant as NASCAR can be;)) IMO.

Yeah, Biffle on wind tunnel said he didn't see the parts, but was told that the mounting holes were elongated. Nascar had them out on display at the Texas race.

And it sounds like the pooch didn't like it.:D

Wasn't kyle already on Nascar 'probation' at the time?

When he was suspended for wrecking Hornaday, he was on probation I think. Kyle was a loose cannon that year - a danger to himself and to others. NASCAR had to reign him in. He was downright reckless on the track that year and he thought he was above the rules.

I'm pretty sure he was on probation for that deal with Harvick at Darlington.

They were going a whole lot faster and it was at Texas I believe. If you notice Bush is pushing Hornady faster.

Bubba barely touched Hornady, but here Hornady wrecks Bush

Both drivers were put on probation after Darlington because of the pit road stuff. What Kyle did that caused all that to go down was a malignant foul and NASCAR gave him a pass under "Have at it". The penalty against Hornaday this time was a good call. He didn't just run in to Wallace to express frustration, he put him head on in to the wall under caution.

Plus 10 points for innovation, minus 500 for implementation.

Different deal. Not sure if Kyle was on probation or not when the Texas thing went down (he might have been) but that was the final straw more or less. Kyle had been a problem the entire season - so much so that some of his sponsors had their decals removed from his car for a few races.

Bush wrecking Hornady at Texas was more aggressive, he was already on probation also. Some have said he should have been suspended like Bush was. Hornady got what he deserved for spinning Bubba IMO.

From Sporting News:

"NASCAR didn’t just suspend the crew chiefs. It also benched the car chiefs. And each team’s top engineer. And the organization’s competition director, too."

Very heavy handed penalties for sure. With a little luck the appeal would halve them.

I'm not defending what Hornaday did, I see it as the same thing Kyle did.. only Kyle was already on probation and that's why he got suspended and Hornaday didn't.

I think that the suspensions may be lifted for the team manager and the car chiefs and engineers.. you never know but I do think they went a little overboard. They may just be putting their foot down on innovation.

How can the greatest driver in the history of NASCAR miss the Chase? I mean, aside from the past four he missed.

My trolling aside, this may be one of the biggest penalties in NASCAR history.

Michael Waltrip was fined 100 points in 2007 on the old points system in the first year of Toyota when they couldn't qualify and he put that rocket fuel in the engine.

100 points out of 185 possible (for winner) = 54% of points possible

25 points out of 43 possible (for winner) = 58% of points possible

I think that makes this the biggest points penalty in the history Cup.

Nope, besides there is a possible 48 points under the new system, not 43.

#24-Jeff Gordon and team owner 25 points [Phoenix 11-11-2012], current system.
#27-Paul Menard and team owner 25 points [Michigan 8/19/2012], current system.

#33-Clint Bowyer and team owner 150 points [New Hampshire 9-19-2010], old system.
