The Next Great Hope

I watched Decker in the Daytona ARACA race. She was fast and competitive. I think she won the pole in fact and finished 4th or 5th. But someone else said it, for them to just jump up to Monster racing, they really need to already be in the truck series to see what they can do. Hopefully both of them can get a truck ride very soon so we can see (or not).

Misogyny on full display here. A thread about Hailie Deegan turns into a Danica bashfest even though Danica's not even in NASCAR anymore.

LOL did you even read the thread? If there was "misogyny" on display wouldn't we be bashing Deegan and Decker too?

that's a picture of Natalie Decker in the first post.

right there in post #2....yep it's clear you didn't read the thread.

Watch out, my post got moderated for pointing out he didn’t read the article.

Although, blanket calling everyone in the thread women haters won’t get moderated. Maybe I’ll start being more podium-esque in the open forum and my posts wont get edited.

Thread devolves into a Danica bash ... bringing out the best in some people.

Or ... we could talk about Deegan, Decker and some of the other young women trying to make their way in a dangerous, male-dominated arena.

It would be nice, but god forbid anyone mention Danica. She can't be discussed on this forum because if you say something negative about her, you're called a misogynist.

I don't like Denny Hamlin. I guess that means I hate white people, according to some people's logic.

On top of that, “bashing” is subjective. Point out the fact that the 2018 #10 team is performing better than the previous years? “Basher”! If there was name calling and saying “she didnt perform because shes a woman” yeah thats warranted. Pointing out stats and quotes from teammates is hardly insulting. Unless the truth is uncomfortable.

The best thing Danica did was open the door for drivers like Decker and Deegan for a run to the top. Although now it’s been proven that they are going to have to earn it, rather than relying on money and a provocative ads from GoDaddy. Fools gold looks fantastic but isn’t worth a dime.

It will be nice when gender isn't an issue in racing.
At what point is it “an issue”?

Is it an issue when there are no female drivers in the premier series? How many will it take for it not to be an issue?

Is it an issue when a female driver may not perform as well as over half the field? At what point in performance is it not an isse? A win? A championship?

Do we need a gender only series much like basketball, soccer, tennis, etc?

Why does it have to be “an issue”? I dont think sports need diversity just for diversity’s sake. I think sports need legit competitors, no matter the gender, color or creed.

Or could it just be racing appeals more to men than women, so it attracts more men? We cant force women into the sport just for “muh diversity”. The appeal has to be there. THAT is where I believe Danica’s legacy will shine.

Good luck on the moderation. I'm still waiting for an explanation for something that happened a week ago.

I don't think there is any race team out there willing to offer a female an Xfinity or Cup ride.

I think there are plenty, provided the money is there. If Danica could still bring the Go Daddy type of money, she'd still have a ride, probably still in the 10 car. VERY few fully funded drivers get let go, unless the sponsor WANTS them gone.

Like I said there aren't any teams going to do this and get into another Danica scenario. No major sponsor is willing to take a chance on a female, not going to happen after the Danica saga.

It is a conundrum. I think that someone WILL offer a ride --- if the money is good enough to fund a year. But, I'd bet that the check would have to clear first.

I keep hearing the term "breaking down barriers". What barriers? Patrick had the red carpet rolled out for her. She had a major sponsor, good for her, she drove for a championship caliber team. If one of these younger female drivers win, and win often in the lower tier series, they will get noticed, for WINNING. That's what they should be noticed for, not their gender. I would hate to think potential sponsors would pass on a proven young driver based on Danica. I can't even imagine that would be a factor.

Talk to women who tried racing in the 80s and 90s. Talk to female racers who raced at their short tracks before Danica came along. Talk to the old school racers' wives who weren't even allowed in the pits.

Yep, we're not living in the 80s and 90s. Most local bullring racers don't baby anyone, male or female. That's not racing. Who stood in Danicas way? What person tried to prevent her from racing? Nobody. We're not living in the past, at least some of us aren't.

Well said!

I'm not speaking for everybody, but I know I am speaking for a few. I don't have a problem with a women driver. The problem with this one was she didn't have any talent in a Nascar Xfinity car driving for a top team, Jr/Hendrick, when she arrived in Nascar. Right now 1,2,3 in the series are Jr. motorsports cars. After a really scary lackluster performance, she was promoted to cup (why?) for another top team who have all four drivers in the top 11 today, a position she never came close to achieving. It isn't an issue of loathing, it is a matter of privilege not earned.
