The Saga of Chris Gabehart

Gabehart was still with JGR up to Feb 9th. Seems the suit isn't too far removed from the situation as some think.

Didn't they announce how far back that he had left the team? Seems like playing a game waiting to "officially" terminate him

According to Bianci, if Gabehart took another position with another organization it had to be different than what he was doing at Gibbs so it isn't ok. They say he is doing the same thing for Spire.
I thought what he's doing at Spire is exactly what he asked to do at JGR and was told 'No.'.

Yeah, me too and that according to his contract with Gibbs was OK to do. He couldn't do the same job he was doing at Gibbs, but at Spire it is a different job. Gibbs says, no it's the same job. Another thing that will be hard for Gibbs to prove. :idunno:

This just keeps getting stranger. Why would you wait 3 months to file, then amend said files?
Has Chris even filed his legal response yet?
Maybe JGR waited to see if Spire had improved their performance in 2026. Before it was just Gabehart in the lawsuit, now after seeing Spires first two races, they assume that that they used JGR information. I'm really hoping that Hocevar wins soon to see what JGR does then.

Gibbs didn't pay for the first examination, Gabehart did.

If you have the time and interest, Gluck's Youtube is much more in depth than either of Weaver's or Gluck's click baity tweets. There are parts of Gibbs not paying Gabehart in violation of state law, not extending Cobra insurance benefits, not paying for the forensic work etc. Much of this was done back in November instead of a week ago.

To the surprise of no one, Gabehart's filing paints him as pure white as the freshly-fallen snow. And that may be accurate, or maybe not... that's why the process includes courtroom testimony and cross examination... and jurors to determine the credibility of the two sides.

I doubt this case will ever reach the stage of an actual trial, but if it does, it will be very interesting to hear about how the 54 team is held to different managerial standards than the 11, 20, and 19.

Denny mentioned that JGR clearly has something because its not an organization that goes around trying to sue people for no reason.

For the little I picked up there also seems to be some vengeance on the JGR side for Chris not liking Ty. If they're not careful he'll be the downfall of that place. I mean look at how foolish it is that they won't put Heim in a car because Ty doesn't like him.

Wow just got done watching both the Jeff Gluck YouTube videos and boy there is some serious accusations flying on both sides.

Glad you listened to it. It appears to me Gabehart was pretty aware and could survive a forensic investigation and did so. The part that was meaningful after everything else was said is that Gabehart once again invites JGR to go thru everything with a forensic person for both his and Spire's devices.

I don't understand how JGR's lawyers can pass up jumping on that opportunity.

Likely because they know if someone is so willing to open it up they won't find anything. When you don't look you can speculate on what's there, once you look you know.
I guess, but I don't know if that will hold up under a judge's questioning. "You've had two opportunities to examine their electronic assets and you've declined both times. Care to explain why you passed up the chance to gather the evidence that would make this an open-and-shut case?"

I hope Gibbs' lawyers were already on retainer because this starts to smell like ambulance-chasing.

Well in their defense Chris did admit to taking photos of data/info. Its just he claims that he didn't do anything with it.

To me both sides fumbled on this one.

If what Chris claims is true about being terminated or put on leave without pay in November and not being offered Cobra, then ultimately not being officially terminated til February thats a huge mistake for JGR. Either they violated law or they owe him back pay.

Both sides are spinning a narrative. If Gabehart is 100% accurate here, yeah, it's big...and yeah, it certainly changes MY picture of things. I have always thought it interesting that TRD was willing to piss JGR off and sign Legacy as a Tier 1 team....it might be making sense now.

Tell me Rev, how much Chevy R07 engine technology ended up in the Toyota Cup engine, since JGR was collaborating on the R07 RIGHT before they jumped ship to Toyota? You can play this game all day if you want. I refuse to get in a twist about this stuff because even if you can prevent the transfer of hard data, you can't erase people's minds, and what they know. It just is what it is, and when it comes to pushing the gray areas (AKA cheating) JGR can hold their own with the best of them.
If memory serves, NASCAR made the other manufacturer engines available to Toyota for inspection as they were developing the pushrod 8 for the first time. This isn't about information getting from one place to another, it's about how it gets there, but I do get your point. This is more than likely a pissing match that has nothing to do with information that we are getting sucked into.

Enough bad behavior on both sides, but I can't help but wonder why Gabehart took those pictures. Not to pass on, he denies that. Then why?

Manufacturers should never let one team dictate who else they partner with. That's like having an employee who's 'indispensable', a managerial mistake if ever there was one.
