Thoughts On BRISTOL

BMS saw my first race there in 1967 Richard won that one been way to long so i really dont remember it, saw Dale win his first in in 72 again just remember a rookie won, started going to both races there in 75 didn't miss a one till 2007, only been s few time since then, last being 2010 night race.
i loved it when it was asphalt and they ran bias ply tires anyone remember tire stager and the goodyear vs hoosier days. was at the first night race that was a blast, i want to think DW won with Dale right on his ass for 2nd i could be wrong. then came the concerte (my spelling sucks) what a mess that was don't think anyone figured that out for a few years. then we got WOO and they covered it with dirt that was really fun to watch. i have seen some of the best racin and some of the worst at that track, do i like the new track, NO but i dont like nascars BS rules either. i can remember when the winning car looked like it had been in a demolition derby on more than 1 occasion. but that was before "parody" came into play now days you would be hard pressed to win with a bent up race car. guess what i am saying is nascar has changed much over they years and things jus ain't the same. i may go sundy haven't decided yet just know that it aint the BMS it once was .
Those old races at Bristol were great . Very seldom though was more than one car on the lead lap at the checkers.I know Petty won one by 5 laps. As exciting as they were, todays races have more exciting finishes.

I've always Loved Bristol! It's In Your Face Short Track racing on a High Speed Halfmile with sights and Sounds that will blow your socks off! Who would'nt Love That? AND Since the latest repave/reconfiguration it's even better!
The races are now Won by who can drive and who can set up a race car, No more build a Tank and beat your way to the front!

BTW, Ruetty is driving the 10 car this week why are ya picking on Danica???

This will be the first time I've missed the spring race in several years :( I hope DP brings back pics and storys!

Fumes never bothered me at Bristol. But some of the drunken troglodytes were another story.

Ha! I guess since I go to racing so much in the year, I hardly notice the fumes except when they fire the engines. But get somebody who's had 4 or 5 too many or a bad case of B.O., I definitely notice that.

I am far from a prude when it comes to people partying and/or swearing at the track but there are limits. I don't want to impeded on someone's good time and they shouldn't impede on mine.

Trevor Bayne to race at Bristol
Trevor Bayne has been entered for Saturday's Ford EcoBoost 300 Nationwide Series race at Bristol Motor Speedway. The No. 60 Ford was added to the Nationwide Series entry list on Tuesday.
Bayne finished fourth at Las Vegas, and is currently fourth in the points. However, all of Bayne's races in 2012 have been run without sponsorship -- and the Las Vegas race was scheduled to be his last guaranteed Nationwide start this season.
However, Roush Fenway Racing officials apparently had a change of heart and have confirmed that Bayne will be going to Bristol. The entry was approved by NASCAR competition before the weekly deadline, allowing Bayne to receive any points he might earn in Saturday's event.

I liked the old bristol, sometime. I think the new configuration is better though, it's not a single file traffic jam. They have more racing now.

I don't like the new as much as the old, and here's why. One thing that, to me, is fun about short track racing is watching the leaders work their way through lapped traffic. With everyone runnin side by side, lap after lap (which can be fun), that just doesn't heppen as much. A couple leaders will be driving around side by side, and they come up on a couple backmarkers in the same configuration, and there's just no room for anyone to move.

There's a hell of a lot more room now than there was "back in the day"!

But I agree with TRL too. The flat asphalt with bias-ply tires was pretty fun - even though I have only seen it on film...

While killing time waiting on something to do I was looking thru the numbers at Bristol and this one jumped out at me :
7 - fewest cars running at finish (3/20/66)
Must have been a hell of a Race!
