Tired of seeing the same 3 cars capable of winning on speed.

Props to @gnomesayin for these two posts, which have boiled the issue down to its very essence. He speaks the truth.

Sadly, Mr. Gnome, I don't think there are enough guys like you and me to sustain Nascar. I am dispirited by the reactions here and elsewhere in social media to Saturday's race. Whether it is restrictor plates or something else, I suspect a randomizing agent to appear by 2019.

Yeah, I definitely don't want something like restrictor plates at 1.5 milers to artificially level the playing field. That would be a terrible decision IMO.

I never really care much for changes unless they are true fixes/upgrades. If you're going to do something, you gotta do it right. NASCAR has been trying the "band-aid fix" method several times in the last 15 years and it usually doesn't work.

neither does anybody else want a restrictor plate is what is so naive about the objections, they border on hysteria. But the majority of fans don't want single file racing with hardly any passing..and it seems everybody has their own little way of accomplishing that. They have run the gamut. They have tried high downforce, low downforce and this latest reminded me of the truck package, but it was too slow IMO and many others thought the same thing. It is insanity to think this is going to create new winners, hopefully closer racing, more side by side passing instead of a one lane parade broken up by stages. If they could get the racing as close as the trucks more consistently, I am hopeful the numbers would stabilize

Well...just my opinion, but...believe it is 80% car...the driver is 80% of the remaining 20%, and strategy is 80% of the remaining 4%...the rest is luck.

The best driver can make up a small portion of the car...but not consistently. Larson is a rare talent in that he finds away to make the car work, even if it is not at 100% of the 80% allocated to the car. Note the difference between him and McMurray.
good analogy. I would add this, it takes a great driver to get the car to 80% in the first place. a decent driver with the best car can win. I don't believe a crappy driver will ever outrun everyone on speed during the race. It interesting that truex is doing what he is doing. We all know who truex was as a driver before the 78 car. I can't believe he suddenly figure out how to driver. they have something

I guess back in the day when a driver won 10 races it was all over.....NOT
Ask Rusty Wallace
Or a driver not winning a race the entire season AND still had a shot at a championship going into final race
Ask Ryan Newman
In November we could be saying
How many championships can that Jones boy win
how did Jimmie pull out an 8th championship
Highly unlikely and you know it.
This is absolutely nothing like the mid 90's.
Not even close, the cars could race and pass much better than they do now. On plate tracks we actually saw sling shot passes and these races weren't so much a demolition derby as they are now.

You say you don't want plates at 1.5 milers, yet you and quite a few other apologists here we're applauding Charlotte's experiment. These cars need to be off the ground more, not sealed to the pavement like they are now. There is way too much dependence on aero, clean air is still too important.

NASCAR was headed in the right direction when they had high HP and dramatically reduced the downforce with the super tiny spoiler. Remember that 1st Kentucky race with that package? The drivers loved it! Then the teams engineered their way back to downforce and back to **** racing and want to scratch their heads and wonder what the issue is and how to fix it. It's your fault you dummies!

Softer tires was all that was left and we'd probably for the most part be happy.

the cars flat out suck, its not a driver issue. When these cars are having trouble outrunning the front row cars something is way way and I mean way wrong. I looked at the practice sheets before the race and thought holy crap the HMS cars are awful. they are running with front row and BK cars in the upper 20's in practice. I find it some what surprising they even finished as well as they did considering the practice speeds were that slow, they did get the cars better through the weekend it looks like. If you are seeing a difference between practice and the race keep in mind there is a difference between speed with the cars running all by themselves and speed with the car in the race. it could point to an aero issue another thing I see is a lot of times the HMS cars seem to all run the same speed at practice and often times in the race they are clustered together in finishing order. That tells me the cars are only capable of that much speed and the drivers got what they could from the cars and it was pretty equal. that shows its not a driver issue. That gotta do something major. .
Thats Racin! Fix your junk and get faster.

On a scale of 1 to 10, 1 being the lowest and 10 the highest, how bad or crippling is it?
Pretty bad. Ok, I just saw Jayski report it - 5 Hour is leaving Furniture Row Racing. It could legitimately close the program. Not trying to act like Chicken Little, but FRR needs to come up with A LOT of money in a little time to race in '19. Hopefully someone else steps up.

They will find additional sponsorship. That is a powerhouse lineup and they eat up the media coverage. Johnny Morris will probably cover a good portion of the loss.

Shows what a sad state of affairs sponsorship is today. Reigning cup champ, third in the chase with 4 wins or is it 5? And he loses his sponsor? I'm sure they'll pick up another but I thought everything was 'great'?

Johnny said he wouldn't/couldn't. And Barney won't eat the cost either. Maybe (hopefully) one of them will change their mind, but who knows. Right now FRR is operating under the assumption that they have about 7-10 million to raise in 4 months (they were notified by 5-Hour weeks ago).

If FRR does close shop, I would bet we see MTJ, Cole and Bass Pro go over to the 19.

What does it say when the guy who is the defending Champion, is 3rd in the standings with 4 wins has a sponsor leave? What does that mean about the sport? Cost are still rising and sponsors aren't getting the bang for their buck anymore. When the beer companies started leaving that should have been the canary in the coal mine.

NASCAR is about to experience the "downsizing" that their average fan has already experienced.

To be fair, 5 Hour got more exposure last season than they paid for. It really was a good marketing investment, one of the VERY FEW sponsorships that really did deliver the impressions, or "bang for the buck" as you say. Most other sponsorships rely on B to B relationships to drive the value. As for 5 Hour, there really are internal business decisions going on that are putting spending freezes across multiple initiatives. Still - not a very good look for the state of the sport.

Nice spin. However, if they got more exposure than they paid for then they would have resigned at the same rate. The ROI wasn't there. Companies don't leave places that the return on investment is better than the capital they shelled out. Well, successful companies don't do that.

Thanks for the report, @Allenbaba even though it is unwelcome. I for one hope FRR solves the funding shortfall. Barney Visser and his team have been a great Nascar success story. Hope it can carry on.

Johnny and Martin will be drinking a beer soon.

I'd say 5 hour is losing Market share and cutting back sponsorship's to save money.

If only one of those competitors that is gaining market share could see the value in NASCAR. Gotta wonder why that isn't happening. Hmmm, does that mean they didn't want to copy the marketing plan of the company they were taking market share from?

MTJ and JJ both looking for sponsors. The 78 team used to run out of their pocket or with very very little outside sponsorship. now that they are winning, why is that changing. barney visser probably isn't setup to attract new sponsors like HMS or gibbs does that ilikely has an entire department dedicated to finding more sponsors.

I think people should appreciate what's going on now. I'm not a fan of any of those 3. But to see them push each other week after week is amazing. While they could be riding around since they have their playoff spots clinched, they're racing hard trying to beat the other two.

Yep...things are not as rosey as the apologists here paint them. When a driver at the pinnacle of his career can't secure sponsorship something is very wrong.

He will get sponsorship for sure. How much is the question. I don't think 5 hour was paying all that much, maybe 12 million for the year divided by number of races sponsored.

While no one can argue the fact that the sport has lost a good amount "support" in various forms in recent years I really wouldn't read too much into Truex's situation beyond it's just part of the game. Sponsors, longstanding ones, have been coming and going for as long as I can remember. Earnhardt won the '87 championship with Wrangler then debuted his famous Goodwrench car in '88. Rusty won the '89 title with Kodiak yet they jump shipped for Hendrick the next year. Rusty ended up starting his longstanding relationship with Miller in 1990 while still with Blue Max Racing.

This was some years ago, but same scenario

Todd Bodine had won the truck championship
The next year his team shut down 5 races in to the season because of no sponsorship

Benson won the truck championship and had no ride the next year.
Sponsors come and sponsors go and 5 Hour is no different, the number cruncher's make the big decisions/recommendations and that is what the BOD go by.

Wouldn't read too much into it? So it's no big deal when the best team in the sport loses its primary sponsor?
