Todd Parrott is another moron

So, you people think NASCAR's going to railroad a guy who's been in the sport for nearly two decades over something simple? Especially after NASCAR was vindicated on the Jeremy Mayfield crapoola?

Reck, I got lucky once, I tested positive for codeine we all had colds at the same time, and all got the same meds. I had a coughing fit in the middle of the night, took a swig and the very next A.M I was pulled out of my truck with a substitute driver and drove to the testing lab at 5:30 in the morning for a pee test. 3 days later the testers called me and said I tested positive for a schedule two narcotic. I said that can't be and asked what it could be, one of the things she listed was the cough syrup. I went home and luckily the bottle left was mine. so I had to give them all the information on the bottle, it was almost three years old and I was sweating that.

So...that's how you ended up with that ankle bracelet? ;)

dude around here they don't play, Until recently Oklahoma was third on incarcerating people #1 in throwing women in prison, behind the huge states of California and Texas. So I know more than one or two who have been wearing the bracelet. You should see the breathalyzer, they have rigged up in a car. You have to blow it before it will start, and then when you are going down the road it beeps and if you don't blow in it the car quits running..The latter was invented because drunks were having someone else sober blow in the thing.:) So the bracelets and car deal are to lessen the load in the prisons. You screw up and you go straight to prison and your whole sentence starts from that point.

All for a mid pack driver that took one stupid pill. I know whats his names crew chief will be missed by somebody, I just dont know who :D

Ain't that the truth. Haha

I'm officially stepping out of this one. Too much time spent on some random crew chief no one really cares about.

Well, he had some good years with Yates back in the 90s including a championship with Dale Jarrett in 1999. But, you're right, he's been irrelevant since then.

That's partly what's so shocking to me is that he's been around the block awhile and not a 21-year-old tire changer or something.

He probably won't get his job back. Can't imagine Richard Petty or the Wall Street types who also own RPM will have much tolerance for this.

It's NASCAR's sandbox. Want to play in it? Play by their rules. I trust NASCAR and I trust their judgement when it comes to issues like drug testing and competitor safety.
Ah, you've come a long way Andy. I remember when Aegis/NASCAR were the devil. :D

As far a Parrott goes, whatever the deal is with all of this I hope he gets it worked out and makes his way back.

That's the main thing. It seems he accepted the road to recovery plan, so that's a good sign.

Well IMO , try not to judge people, Its not our job! With that said I agree with the posters who said take the punishment get help and the road to recovery will be a bit shorter. He obviously is a good crew chief and will hopefully be back soon.

NASCAR probably has to treat every case equally, whether it's a top line driver, crew chief, or engine shop janitor, if they're in the program. Samples are anonymous in the lab.

They have those breath analyzers in cars here too ............ I heard that drunks were getting their children to blow in them so they could drive wasted !!!!!!!

Unbelievable isnt it ??

I think the world of Todd and Brad and Buddy , the whole family are great Nascar people . I hope Todd goes through the program and gets back to work asap . For those who want to throw him under the bus without any facts . ***** ***

This.

not to me, sugar and yeast is under lock and key in prison, but inmates will use just about anything that will ferment and make alcohol. Potato peels, apples, oranges etc. Some of it had killed people who drink it. There will always be people who want to alter their current state.

I found that after many years of testing that my "altered state" is no better than my current one :D

Have heard of folks drinking perfume--mouthwash--rubbing alcohol--bathroom cleaner--insect spray, etc etc. Yuuuuuummm Yuuuummmm ...... lets party :D

They are human...humans tend to do things before thinking out the consequences.

Nancy Reagan once proclaimed, "Just say no to drugs."

Obviously that didn't go over very well with those addicted to drugs.

Sigh, here we go again, I hope it's nothing serious and I'll wait to find out what it is he took before I pass any judgement. As has been stated could as simple as cough syrup.

Edit: Todd Parrott is 56 years old and has been in nascar virtually his whole life, he knows the rules, I find it very hard to believe he's using illegal drugs.

Kinda shocking to me but he may have just smoked a little weed who knows. He should know better of course. I tell you who needs to be tested and that is Brian France. I have heard he really likes coke. I think Helton, France, Pemberton and the rest of the nascar front office should have to pee in a cup every week.

Todd Parrott was released from Richard Petty Motorsports yesterday after being suspended by NASCAR.

I guess they aren't going to wait around for him to complete the program.

Richard Petty Motorsports (RPM) announced Tuesday Greg Ebert will serve as the interim crew chief for the No. 43 Ford and driver Aric Almirola starting this weekend at Martinsville (Va.) Speedway. Ebert will fulfill this role on an interim basis for the remainder of the season.

Ebert has served in the role of car chief of the No. 43 Ford for the past two seasons and has been a car chief with RPM since its inception. Before joining RPM, Ebert spent nine years at Roush Fenway Racing serving the last five of those seasons as the car chief for Matt Kenseth.

"We are confident in Greg's leadership abilities and we will give him the resources he needs to be successful," explained Sammy Johns, Vice President of Operations and Competition. "He is very familiar with our race program and gives us a more seamless transition. More importantly, he gives Aric the best opportunity to finish the season strong."

Ebert replaces Todd Parrott who is no longer with the organization.

That is a tough job with tons of stress but that doesn't excuse using drugs. I hope Todd gets through the program and can get this behind him and on with his life. Everyone makes a mistake but no matter as I wish him well.

I'm just thinking about Richard Petty and the alcohol angle. If you're familiar with Petty than you know what I'm talking about.

That's an interesting take but how do you test positive for alcohol? Does NASCAR even look for that?

The usual way they test for it and yes they look for it, dont want anyone with credentials at the track under the influence of anything.

You would have to be a heavy drinker to have NASCAR suspend you over it. Not sure alcohol even stays in your system for more than a day tops.

If there was any sign of a bad hangover or someone was sipping a pick-me-up at lunch and someone smelled it then they would be tested.

he is on salary probably, so you fire him so you don't have to pay him to hang around the shop. Hopefully they hire him back after he completes the course.

Your liver processes an once of alcohol an hour roughly, so it is possible to fail a test because your blood alcohol level is over the limit. If he was nipping during the day and they random tested him or drank heavily in the evening and got tested in the morning, it would show up in the urine sample.

That's why I said heavy drinker.

If this was a problem I'm sure NASCAR, hell people closest to him would have noticed he was a drunk. There is no way you can be an alcoholic and not have the people you work with not know this. They'd know. Specially when you're the one calling the shots at the pit stall every race.

Didn't James Finch walk around the garage with a white cup in hand all the time?
