Who are the worst drivers you have seen in Nascar with at least 100 starts? It is something I am going to have to really think about as all the drivers in cup are good as it is just some are very good.

Buckshot Jones
Danica
Ill get back to you

Kinser? Did he have 100 starts?

Todd bodine?

Chad little?

Reed sorenson

Kinser only had a handful of starts and a few DNQs.

Didn't take him long to figure out the big time wasn't for him.

I don't think the worst drivers got 100 starts.
Yeah, that's over three seasons for most of the Winston era.

Did Buckshot get to 100? Larry Foyt? Casey Atwood? Who ran that #96 that Sony TV sponsored ("It's the mirrors!") and two Dallas QBs owned?

I would say Steve Kinsers short stint was as much of a Kenny Bernstein fail as it was a driver fail. He wasnt groomed or properly prepared for the pressures of a premium cup ride(at least one capable of winning).

Looking back the failed experiment looked like a desperate hail Mary. It was obviously a shot at trying to get all the open wheel positives Jeff Gordon provided. But Gordon got a year of experience in the Busch Series or the current Xfinity series before joining HMS.

Aside from the salary and Quaker State support in the WoO, the Cup ride turned out to be a disservice to him imo. I remember watching him at the 2nd race in 1995 at Rockingham. He was totally out of his element and thrown into the frying pan imo.

As far as I am concerned his Cup career was a scratch a write off, or too in significant for an evaluation. He would have better off starting out in a backmarkers car without the pressure of a Bernstein Quaker State ride. He could have learned a few in and outs, the basic 101s a cup driver needs, and had a shot at demonstrating some real skills later on.

I think it's tough to evaluate a driver's ability based on his performance in only one owner's cars. Look at Bowman; few of us would have given a used lug nut for him until this year's runs in the #88. That's why it's hard to call some of these guys 'bad'. Who knows what they could have done in someone else's equipment?

I figure we should be discussing people who not only ran over 100 races but did it stinking up at least two different operations.

Since it looks like we're disqualifying independents from this list, I'll go ahead and say Michael Waltrip. 4 wins (all on plate tracks) in 30 years and never finished in the Top 10 in points. Mikey was never on a "great" team but he was on several decent ones.
One could argue that he would be a candidate on the top 10 worst announcer list as well.

The OP said maybe Todd Bodine. No way. Todd was a great driver with mediocre equipment. He showed flashes of brilliance when he had a good run going. I will agree with the poster that said Michael Waltrip. He was always a caution waiting to happen. When he won the plate races, he had a car above and beyond everyone elses'.

Herman "the turtle" weekly
Buckshot Jones
Casey Atwood
Rick Mast
Hut Stricklin
JD McDuffy
Danica Patrick
Stephen Wallace (busch)
Kyle Petty
Michael Waltrip

Only a couple found wins in it.

As Kinser was no Gordon, Bernstein was no Beadle.

That was Tony Raines and it was Texas Instruments DLP TV on the car. I forgot about that, but yeah it was Hall of Fame Racing and Troy Aikman was one of the owners.

Half the drivers on his list aren't bad.

Kyle Petty won several races and had a few top 5 points finishes. Worst driver? Hardly
Yeah....... I think '92 was his best year..... He was 1 of the final 6 who had a chance to take the Cup.... although 4th thru 6th was a longshot..... he was still within striking range..... not too bad...... and I think he finished in the top 5 in '93 also.....

Rick Mast wasn't bad either . Looks to me like he wanted 9 other drivers to go with his Danica pick .
I always liked ole Hut Stricklin too...... he was somehow related to the Allisons in some way.... at least linked to the Alabama gang...... and.... there was no way you could not pull for J.D. McDuffy..... always out there giving his best whenever he had the resources to race........

hut stricklin? jason leffler(rip) only 1 top 10 in 73 starts

sott speed

i agree with mikey waltrip

dale earnhardt saved his ass

i think hut was maqrried to one of the allison girls

He married Pam Allison, the daughter of NASCAR legend Donnie Allison after they were introduced by her cousin Davey. Stricklin was the last member of the Alabama Gang.

I've got a Hut Stricklin Heinz 57 1/24 th scale model car still in the box unwrapped... I wanted a Jimmy Spencer but could never find it.... I've had the Hut car for probably 20 or more years now......

I knew he was a son-in-law to one of them and thought it was Donnie but wasn't sure......

Thanks....

And yes...... he was the youngest and last member...... :(

in order to be a worst driver you can't have won a race in cup or NXS, robby gordon, michael waltrip and kyle petty all won cup races and NXS races.

I think you are referring to Jerry Nadeu who drove the 13 for Dan Marino. Anyway, Jerry Nadeu was actually an above average driver before he got into a wreck that caused a major concussion. He still has symptoms today from what I understand. I think you can youtube him to see the latest.

Rick Mast, in my opinion, is the best Cup regular to have never won a race. He came really close several times in average equipment.
I agree.... he drove for a lot of different teams.... probably the most prominent was Richard Jackson.... he done well there.... maybe this off note but.... he also drove for Junie Donalevy...... that's what I miss so much today about the racing we used to see.... Junie was the stepping board to so many racers.... I can't even count how many up and coming drivers drove for Junie..... I was never so proud as when Junie got the Heilig Meyers Sponsorship!!!!!!!!!! That was moving into the Big Time for him!!! I still see a guy around town wearing one of those jackets......
