UH OH...Call to suspend Kyle????

The racing was piss poor last weekend & the only subject worth mentioning in a sport deficated to racing was the battery committed by Busch.

Sad state of affairs.
I thought the racing was excellent. I don't know what more one would want. The low downforce aero rules worked really well, with trailing car able to close up on the leader and pass if he was faster. Tire fall off was high, so comers and goers. Different strategies being used. Were you looking for The Big One?

Cars getting loose, having to correct it. Actually lifting out of the throttle and using the throttle to turn the car. Etc...

I watched half the race on TV and it was strung out single file from 1st to 30th most of the time. The other half I listened on MRN and the point was made several times that this race looked very similar to the borefest of last spring as well. Team engineers have already found the lost downforce. The Gen 6 continues to be a failure at
producing exciting racing throughout.

Atlanta was fun to watch because the track is so slick. Other than the bumps that drivers simply race around, Vegas is smooth and grippy where drivers hardly have to lift for the turns in these cars.

One thing I have learned from this latest kerfuffle is that a boatload of Nascar fans don't seem to give a hoot about about what occurs on track as long as they can see tempers flare after the race. Nascar could save a lot of money in R&D and changes by ensuring you have a couple or 4 drivers at the end of each race that want to engage another driver in fake fistfight.

Or maybe even a scripted rivalry in the booth between Ol' DW and Jef.... wait what? We already went there? Never mind.

I'm happy with the racing but the rest of this statement is on point. The only time random people bring up NASCAR in conversation with me is after some jackass gets in a fight and it shows up on the local news.

It's a bad look, especially when showing Kyle Busch's naturally disfigured face, abnormally disfigured and leaking.

NASCAR needs this kind of drama, very, very badly. I don't see how anyone can argue with this. Kyle's temper has single-handedly given NASCAR more attention than any close race or points system could have.

Depends on the lane you travel per se.

From the channels and news outlets I follow I barely came across one that touched on this. It was ESPN, sportscenter.

And that was Monday night I believe when it was still fresh.

I guess it also depends on who the individuals are. I remember back in 2012 when Gordon and Clint got into it in Phoenix. That story played for like a week. Same with the Kez/Gordon one.

I was just thinking..... Maybe NASCAR can start secretly rewarding post race fighting points that can be used for advancement in the Chase.

1 point for a thrown object.
2 points if said object makes contact with the car while the driver is in it.
5 points if it actually hits the driver him/herself.
10 points for physical contact.
50 for immediate retaliation.

Just a thought.

The "fight" was mentioned on the Today show nationally and I listen to the sports radio station in my market, WFAN in NYC, and they almost never mention NASCAR but they did mention the incident on Monday.

sigh. this is fine until someone gets hurt with this. The fights in the pits fine, but when they start using their cars as weapons and taking each other out...someone will get hurt...like door slamming someone when their window net is down after the checkers...

Same here except that they still have been playing audio snippets even today.

just thought of something...the ward family will love this. NASCAR being painted a bunch of ego manics who cant control their tempers....

Unfortunately, wrecks and fights are about all from NASCAR that makes it into mainstream sports broadcasts. Turn on any local newscast on a Sunday night, and about all they'll show from that days race are a montage of that day's wrecks, fights if any happened, and the winner crossing the finish line.

Matt Weaver from Autoweek had a column that I agreed with... basically said a driver shouldn't be penalized at all for an altercation if it's their first offense.

Suspended for a little bit of fighting? And after he came out looking the worst for it?
NASCAR does try to manufacture some drama, but they are far from WWE.
Kyle has a strong relationship with Monster, the new series sponsor. No way they'd suspend him.
Besides, they'll capitalize on a Kyle / Joey feud to try to draw more fan interest. That's out of the WWE playbook.

I agree with the first part 100%. The WWE has good ratings.

Really? They have hit all time lows in the last couple of years a time or two. NASCAR and Wrestling do share some similarities, both were huge in the 90s but have taken a hit recently. Both could be attributed to stars retiring or changes that have been made to the product. I don't think NASCAR needs to be like WWE nor do I think this incident was WWE like, this was real emotion created from intense racing not two guys in on the act. It does good for the sport though in the sense that it shows how passionate these drivers are about what they do.

Chances are good the camera will be on the 22 and 18 to all day at PHX and the drama will be in Joys voice whenever the cars pass each other....

Maybe for the next race Kyle can be sponsored by Starbust to symbolize the stars he was seeing after the fight, or perhaps Big Red to represent the color of his face after getting it slammed into the pavement.
