Vacation stories/pictures thread

It was a nicer day yesterday....went to a beach just a little north of the last one..... Muriwai beach. Still west coast about 40 mins from home.

One photo of our recent trip to Europe. Absolutely breathtaking and while this was a highlight, there were many more spectacular sights seen on a riverboat trip from Amsterdam to Basel and a land tour from Basel to Lucerne and Zurich, Switzerland, before returning home. Never once felt uncomfortable or threatened as so many had warned we might. Actually feel more threatened in the U.S. than over there.

You say another winter's day but how cold does it get on average during the winter season. Things look pretty summery for winter.

No it was like 55 today. 55-60 is quite normal for winter here.

Warm enough that I was in shorts and even had to wade through the estuary to get to where I wanted to go. Old shoes so I didn't bother taking them off.

Went to Rangitoto island today and walked to the summit. It is a volcano that emerged from the sea only about 700 years ago.
That pic....in the center...the land behind land is what I climbed.

Being a volcano it's all lava rock....You can imagine how warm it is in summer.

Nat Geo just did a show on New Zealand. How there's a massive under water canyon, a submerged volcano previously thought to be dormant nearby. There's tectonic plates building pressure and I think they said ran under the island. Who knows if / when a quake may occur.
California II ?

This years trek to North Dakota and back pulling the beast.

Our first morning on the road, sunrise over Enid Lake.

Viking Lake in the late afternoon.

Mount Rushmore is something to behold. I've been here before but this is my wife's first visit to the Dakota's.

The Crazy Horse Monument. Notice the outline where the horses head will be carved.

What it will look like when finished.

After day 2 of our South Dakota trip, I will share a few of the pictures I have taken. Sorry if a few are duplicates of what Johali has posted.

The first picture is of Sylvan lake. The scenery of this lake has made it one of my favorite lakes I have visited. A hike to the highest point in the state starts at this lake. Due to time, we did not attempt the hike of 7 miles round trip.

The last pictures is Carhenge in Alliance, Nebraska which is suppose to be a car version of Stonehenge.

Great pictures. I lost an SD card with my Sylvan Lake and many other pictures on it. It'll turn up somewhere, probably in a nook or cranny in the truck or the beast.

And don't forget the nooks/crannies of suitcases or backpacks. And pockets. I've found many things I'd forgotten in all those places.

Bingo, you're right. The wife just found it in the pocket of a raincoat she was wearing to set the beast up in North Dakota. :D

Here's a few last pictures of our trip. The Badlands is actually one awesome place. I wasn't sure what to expect, but I was quite amazed. Aside from it being quite hot, we had a good time visiting the park. Thankfully, we didn't encounter any rattlesnakes, despite the warning signs posted all over the park. While walking through a narrow trail, I did hear movement in the tall grass beside me, so I took of running. :) The Dignity statue in Chamberlain, SD was pretty neat as well. I'm surprised it's not more well known. The Corn Palace for neat for a quick stop. They were starting a new design when we went. Crazy Horse was also better than I expected. They had a ton of history on the place with a great short film to explain it even better. Though I wont be alive long enough to seeing the statue even close to finished, I still think it'd be cool to back every 10 or 15 years to see the progress.

Had the day off and altho it wasn't very sunny the sea was flat and I wanted to give the motor a run.
Came upon a pod of dolphins feeding...and competing with Gannets for the same food source.
Apologies for holding the camera the wrong way....again

I carried on to Motuihie Island where I went ashore briefly before heading back.

Phones have turned into great cameras. Most of the pictures from my last trip were taken with my phone because it's just easier.
I'm actually scared to upgrade my Samsung 7 edge because I love the camera so much.
