Watkins Glen in the rain

60% chance of rain, but the forecast calls for scattered showers. Why doesn't Cup run a rain setup on road courses? This suks.

Because, as was pointed out in another thread by dpkimmel, the racing would suck. It's been done in NS, and result was garbage.

They've done it with Nationwide @ Montreal in recent years and it made for a horrible race IMO. They attempted it in practice many years back in CUP and it only proved how dumb the idea was. They made the right decision by not bringing wet tires for CUP. I'd rather wait a day or two and watch a race rather than glorified caution laps. These cars aren't meant to be run in the rain, period.

The same people that are complaining about no wet tires for Cup are the same that would complain about the race after it had been run in the wet. That's the circle of life here on racing-forums.com.

Obviously, I don't read every comment in every thread.

The Montreal race w Edwards and Ambrose was great, IMO.

Right.

And Besides, what hard working man has time to sit and watch a race on Monday? "Oh, what's that darling?".....

My wife just informed me we have this thing called a DVR. I will have to check this out.

Does the DVR work in the rain? If the race is rained out, they probably won't be able to run it until Tuesday. I would rather see half a race on rain tires than just 1/2 a race. These guys are pro's, and running on rain tires adds another skill they need to master. Unless it is raining real hard, I think they should race. If I bought tickets, drove 5 hours, paid for a hotel and took Monday off to see the race, I wouldn't be happy about scrapping the whole thing because it rained. And NASCAR doesn't mandate refunds from the track, so you would have to do it all over again on Monday or Tuesday. That's NOT fan friendly.

Because they do it ALL for the fans. Right?

And I am on vacation this week. :D

Looks like it is starting to sprinkle. :(

..and because they don't like rain tires, they won't race while it's sprinkling. When it actually rains, there is no hope of drying that track. So the cars will go round and round behind the pace car for 10 laps, then they'll start the race. It will sprinkle again.....

Why even start this race today?

What planet is Watkins Glen on where it rains in August
Bowman Gray Stadium's races were rained out last night in WS. Think of this...it was ladies night where the ladies got in for a buck. Next week the promoter will make almost nothing because of the rain checks. He tried his best to get 12 laps of the modifieds in so he could call it a complete night. As Davey Allison used to say, rain, rain, go away.

It's called the east coast, where we get summer storms. It's what keeps things green and pretty. Look at the difference between Watkins Glen and Sears Point or Laguna Seca. The two west coast tracks are dry and brown, out here it's green and pretty.

Not that I don't love California (I do), but I love that it's always much more green out here, even if a race does get rained out now and then.

This rain sucks for everyone involved. Drivers can't get on the track. Fans have to run for cover. #42 pit crew can't keep their joints lit.

Last time Cup race run a day late because of rain? 2010 @ Texas. Martinsville also. D. Hamlin won both.

Saw this somewhere.

:D I couldn't deal with it, I hate the rain.

Just imagine if they have to wait till Wednesday lol

They wont they will just postpone. What happens if they have to postpone until after the chase? Do they move the races and have the Glen the last race of the chase/season? When was the last time a race was postponed until the end of the season? 2001?

Hmm, that would be interesting. Adding it to the chase midway through the season. Surprise!

Yeah, Loudon was moved to Black Friday ten years ago (or is that five years ago VADirt?:D).

Can't be done because they wouldn't set the chase field with just 25 races. First week the track is available, they'll run a Monday race......hopefully checking the weather forecast first. ;)

Why dont they run these road courses in the rain like the other series do ?

BOO!

I know rainouts suck for people who take the time and spend the money to go to the track. But I don't think that races on wet tracks are that much fun to watch. Even in F1, dry races are a far better show.

Because NASCAR and the NASCAR media don't think fans will watch a race in the rain... guess their fans aren't as loyal as IRL, ARCA, K&N, Nationwide, F1, NFL, MLS amd every other sport in the world that plays in the rain.

NASCAR says the policy is to race on the next clear day. If that means staying until Wednesday or Thursday, that's that.

Not according to Formula One supremo Bernie Ecclestone. He want's sprinklers on the track to make F1 MORE exciting.

I disagree. Completely dry F1 races are often very boring. The best ones have often ones where the weather changes throughout the day, forcing different strategies between the driy tires, the intermediates and the full wets.

But that's neither here nor there, I think the cup cars are to heavy to run in the wet, and the racing would suck.
