When I was in my 20s I had a Westmark 702 knife. I always carried that knife. At some point the knife came up missing. I always suspected that it was stolen out of my car.
Westmark was the top of the line knife for Western Cutlery. They were made in Colorado. They aren't made anymore and they are pretty rare around these parts.

I've been looking for one for some time but the ones I found online were always pretty well used up and the sheaths were often tore up. I recently found one in perfect condition, new in box! So I bought it (not yet delivered.)
I have no intention of using or carrying it, I just wanted it because mine was stolen.
My son was over here yesterday and since he's a gun/knife enthusiast, I told him about the knife and showed him a picture from the ad.
He said, "Oh, mom has one of those...
Now I know where my knife went 30 years ago :mad::mad:

Pics to follow when the knife arrives.

of all shapes and sizes. Cant wait to see a pic when it comes in.

I have a 701 still in the box packed away somewhere. That is if a family member didn't steal it. :D

    True. :D
It feels really great in your hand.
If I was still talking to my ex I'd try to get my old knife back  I'm sure it's long gone.

I've got a couple of these 119 Buck knives with the special cocobolo wood handles. These have never been sharpened either.

And then I've got this '53-'55 Randall Made 12-11 Smithsonian bowie. You can literally shave with this knife. This knife has hacked apart many elk.

Those are some fine knives for sure.
I've got my USMC K-Bar and the Bayonet that was issued with my M-14 and some others. I'll see if I can find some of that stuff and post pictures

Unfortunately, in L.A. County it is illegal to openly carry or conceal carry a knife over 3" in length.

These are our Knife carry laws in Florida.

    Limits on Carry
    • You can open carry any knife.
    • Box cutters, multi-tools, and other work knives are legal to carry concealed.
    • In most cases, conceal carry of a common pocket knife with a blade of less than 4 inches is legal.
    • Anything outside of this has not been expressly banned or allowed.

That is gorgeous. That's a serious hand guard on there.
I like the way the guard hangs out the sheath. I would
have to at least go prune a small tree with it ! Or at
    a minimum open mail. :)

I bought a knife kit at Woodcraft; I changed the screws that came with the kit to brass pins which makes it easier). I've been working on it this winter (it is harder than I thought). I got the nose shaped before gluing the wood scales to the knife. I just finished sanding the basic shape on a 1" belt sander. Now I'll fine tune the shape with files and hand sanding.

HA!!!!! I just talked on the phone to the guy that I bought the new-in-box 702 from. He's got one more, new in box but with a small scuff on the sheath. I just bought that one, too! :D

New in-box knife arrived today. It’s an early knife, complete with a registration card in the box! I’m going to sharpen and carry this one.
I’ll post pics tomorrow. Love this knife.

The knife on the right is older and was a display model. Likely made in the early 70s. That is the one that I will sharpen and use.

Touched up the edge on one of my Westmarks on Friday night and took it to the track this weekend to cut up the carne asada.

My cousin was a skinner. He came over here last weekend when I told him I sharpened one of the Westmark knives. I thought I had it pretty good but he showed me what I was doing wrong and what I could do to correct my mistakes. We use DMT whetstones, freehand.
He’s a magician. I learned a lot but I’m not even in the same room as my cousin.
Today I touched it up a bit at his request from yesterday. I’m afraid to screw it up but I think I improved it. It’s an art and I’m learning but you can easily shave with this knife.
I look forward to learning more.

I picked up a 3 stone Naniwa wet stone set for my kitchen knives; I still learning how to use them.

My first knife kit is turning out OK, it has some mistakes. It does have a very nice feel in my hand. I need to clean some finish that got on the blade. I'm going to try an Ulu knife next (which should be easier).

For three days I’ve been sharpening a Chinese POS stainless steel steak knife made from German steel. I’ve folded it over and killed the edge several times but I think I’m finally close. I’m going to test drive it on some BBQ’d 2” boneless pork loin chops.

These have always been my go to everyday knives. Kitchen, fish cleaning, bait cutting, cleaning game from squirrels to deer etc. They're inexpensive, well balanced, easy to use and sharpen and Made In The USA. This is a stock photo but is the same type of set that I've always had.

Bought a couple of new knives.
Both Benchmade. The top is a Mini Crooked River and the bottom is a Turret 980. The top one is my EDC and I bought the bottom one just because it's a workhorse and I like it. I actually bought two of the Turrets and gave one to my buddy.
S30V steel is really a great steel for an EDC.

I've only seen one of the mini's in person and it's one fine ass piece of craftsmanship.
I think that you'll like them. They've been my go to all around knives from as far back as I can remember. The company has a helluva military history with bayonets, survival knives etc. Every knife person that I know loves them.

My winter project was making a pair of filet knives for a couple fishing buddies. I decided to send them pictures of my progress so they had a better idea how my time I put into their gifts (they have boats - I don't). It is a knife kit from Woodcraft, the wood is padauk and I cut the scales to see how grain would turn out.

    Knife-Filet-2.jpg

This is how they turned out. They both have some flaws but they turned out alright. They are the second and third knife kits I built.

I have the third one from the bottom and the top one. They don't look like that now because I have had them for years and sharpening has slimmed them down a bit. I like the fact that you can sharpen them easily.

I have no idea how many of those that I've worn down to a toothpick size over the years. The middle one is my go to knife for just about everything and the one that I usually wear out.
