What do you collect?

Hey, TNW fan, do you have any of the Fox fire books. They tell of the appalachian people and their tradtions. They are really good. Worth looking into

They were used on the electric lines running on the poles. The colorful ones are very collectible. I have just a few, nothing like TRL.

Lappy. Insulators are used to insulate wires on utility poles. Way back in the old days insulators were used for telephone lines (what was called open wire phone lines) as well as for electricity. Every pole had to have an insulator for every wire (phone and electricity). They were made of glass back then and different eras the glass were made with different compounds..........over the years some of the glass would change color because of that. Phone lines were put into jacketed cables and eliminated the need for insulators of any kind and porcelain became what the electric companies started using. The glass insulators became collector items because they got increasingly rarer. Like a lot of things, the most common things become valuable over time. There are still some glass insulators used, but they are slowly being replaced with other types. The colors, styles and makes are valued according to their rarity. Find one, keep it!!:D

Lappy, thanks for the headsup bout Wal-Mart. Next time I do there, AND if I remember, I'll look for them. I doubt that I will remember though to go to the section where they might be. Remember, I don't go out of the way for any of this stuff unless it's at the track. Still, the price has to be right, and the lines short! :) Which reminds me, I'd rather stand back and watch other people, specially the females, stand in line. :) Yep, I'm behind the female movement in this country! Right behind. :D

buckaroo, you're a dirty old man. hehehe

Of course, I'm a dirty old lady. The view from the back is sometimes really nice.

ROTFL

Lap3, DEW is correct about the insulators. Unfortunately a lot of people consider them rifle targets. :(

TRL, how you feeling this morning? I'm telling you that had you allowed me to massage you, you'd be feeling like a new lady and ready to do more work. Now if I can just figure out how to do that to myself! :)

I collect year-by-year 1/24 diecasts... not many of the special paint schemes. I have the 1999, 2000, 2001, and 2002 Jr cars.... 1999,2000,2001,2002 Tony Stewart cars.. all Action, all 1/24 CWC.

I have all 11 of the numbered books, plus Aunt Arie's biography, the Christmas book, and the cook book. All I need for the full set (that I am aware of) is the woodstove cookbook and the toys book. Plus, I know a couple of the people they interviewed.

You are right though. They are fantastic resources.

I collect Bobby Labonte pictures, I have about 4500 or so now. ;)

What does "CWC" stand for?

I also have 39 racing beanie bears ---- mostly DE, Junior, Steve, and Kevin.
I collect Sam Bass autographed prints. My 2 prize possesions are the 1998 Daytona print signed by DE, and Rising Son, signed by DE and Junior(only 100 of these were done).

I also have about 50 1:64 scale ---- DE and Junior. And a few select 1:24 scale.

Finally got all the insulators boxed this afternoon. Now I'm working on the collection of things in the china cabinet that I inherited from my grandmother.

Dang! I have 3.

I have collected diecast cars since I was a you kid, and have emassed a collection of well over 10,000 diecast vehicals, including 400 1:18th scales and countless racing collectables. I love my toys. :)

in a very, very crammed room. I might have some pictures on this computer, I'll take a look.

I want to start a collection of 1:18 scale muscle cars, as soon as we get this bleeping house repaired to a point that all our $$$ isn't tied up in trips to Lowe's.

So those are some pics of my collection. Most of the smaller diecast like Hotwheels and matchbox are in boxes and in my closets. I fit my whole collection in one room and some are out in the hallway, as shown in the last pic. I've been collecting for awhile, I hope I never have to sell any of them. I love my toys.

Sell them my tail, I hope you never have to MOVE! My LP collection was bad enough to move, I can't imagine trying to move all those cars.

I don't want to think about moving at the moment, please. lol. I have all the old 1:18th scale boxes stored in the attic in case I ever need to, though.

rpmallen, you have the collecting bug --- big time. LOL

I have one, 1:18 scale --- the raced version of the #3 Corvette.

I'm sure glad I don't have to move all of those toys. :)

Moving nothing, I'm glad I don't have to dust all those! Can anyone explain all the different sizes. I thought 1/64 scale was smallest. Hubby collects John Deere tractors in that size, at least I think that's the size!

sgbg

1:64 is the smallest size-- about 3 inches long

1:32 is next larger --- hard to find

1:24 the most common collectible size -- about 8 inches long

1:18 the largest --- about 10 inches long

Thanks, I thought we collected the smallest. We gave our friend a Kevin Harvick rookie car for Christmas. It was the largest size 1:18. He loved it. My daughter won it at school and had to give it to him. He loves Kevin

sgbg, your comment about dusting all the cars was my thought exactly. ROTFL

All my 1:64 are in one case, so I don't have to dust each individual car (thank goodness). I keep the larger cars in their own show cases so a quick swipe across the top does the job.

Just call me "lazy". hehehe

TRL, they do or at least they did make them smaller. Remember the small series they introduce several years ago, but it didn't last? Below is a picture of one. I wanted to get a bunch of them and use them for tokens in my NASCAR Monopoly game but never did.
