What should Chads penalty be CHEATING AGAIN?

Well kicking him out of the track really doesn't do anything does it? He can still text and talk with the crew.

Put him on house arrest. Then cut all electricity to the house. So he has no way to contact the outside world.Take his cellphone away also.:D

Send him back to Africa and make sure there aren't any cell towers around. That shouldn't be too hard.

I guess you didn't hear.Chad got kicked out of Africa. They caught him modifying a boomerang and asked him not to come back.:D

That's Funny!

While boomerangs are mainly associated with Australia - and not Africa - one could take issue with your thesis, Mike. But a little investigation will show that boomerangs are not strictly Australian...

However, don't boomerangs always come back? :D:D

Junior Johnson, told a reporter in Florida a few years ago that “Anybody who runs legal is gonna run behind…. It's not cheating…It's being competitive."
I love that. Speaking of Junior Johnson, we went by his home today and the old N. Wilkesboro Speedway. I'll never forget meeting the old guy and him telling me at that time, "Up there is Flossie's home". This was at Ingle Hollow after Junior and his wife had the birth of their son Robert Jr. Where is Gary Nelson when we need him?

Here is how I see it.

The 48 car was presented for inspection. It failed inspection. (That's not unusual in NA$$CAR.) They will have an opportunity to correct their failures and re-present the car. I am relatively certain that the car will pass the second inspection.

Why should there be ANY penalties at all? It was not a post-race violation. It was not an after-qualifying violation. It was a simple failure to pass the initial tech inspection, for Dog's sake! The car has not even been on the track!!!

No actually they don't. In that instance we call them sticks.

I was kinda hoping that they throw his and Jimmie's collective a$$'s out of there so that my driver would not be forced to draft with him again. I'm not a fan of Chad/Jimmie's ride in the back approach to plate racing.

IMO, NASCAR needs to do whatever they are going to do to Chad & team and do it quick. Speculation will abound all next week about this so I think they should come to a decision. After-all, they don't want the Danica stories to reside on the back burner. Like her or not, she's probably going to be the story leading into this race a week from Sunday. Deserved or not isn't the point. Hit em and hit em hard and set the story to bed. Send a message.

wouldn't this place nascar in the position of being inconsistent in how they enforce rules violations? for shame. <g>

Once upon a time na$car said there would be zero tolerence for changing the aero to gain any advantage on the COT . Now this is the third time the 48 has been caught. A 100k fine, even 250k? P-shaw, pocket change for HMS. So is double secret probation. Loss of points is the only thing that'll get their attention.

Now a one race ban plus 100 points will make them sit up and pay attention. Also start awarding the second place car the win if the winner is found illegal.

Finally, someone gets it...Well said SST

Make him and Jimmie swap spit....bet the beard will make Chad think twice:eek:

i think nascar is gonna hit them hard big bucks, lots of time off for chad, and a points penalty equal to a 20th place finish.

Now that the infraction has been explained, I don't think NASCAR should or will do much of anything. Apparently, the #48 team changed the curve BETWEEN hard points, but all hard points were correct. NASCAR left the door open, and the #48 used it.

Agreed!!

NA$$CAR's only option is to build all of the racecars in their own shop and give the completed cars to each team in a blind draw. Then each team can install their own engines and brand-specific headlight decals.

We can call it NA$$ROC cause it will be IROC with a NA$$CAR jacket...

If Jimmy and Chad aren't safe from this stupid rules enforcement than who the heck is?The guys like a ten time champ or somethin.

Cmon, like that's gonna take them outta the chase or something? This it the 48 crew, NASCAR might just as well give them a spanking on the butt and send them to bed without dinner. They are still going to sneak out and sleep with the prom queen. That's what they do. They kick butt and take names. The penalty would have to be so severe at this point in the season to make a difference to what is.

Hendrick to appeal if NASCAR penalized #48 / Knaus: Team Owner Rick Hendrick [#'s 5,24,48,88] spoke with USA Today the inspection failure of Jimmie Johnson's #48 Chevy last week at Daytona [among other things]:
Q: Are you planning to appeal if NASCAR penalizes the No. 48?
A: Yes. I think NASCAR does a good job in the garage area, and sometimes you agree and sometime you don't. I'm gathering all the facts on our end about when the car raced and who worked on it. We have really good documentation in our shop for every hour spent on a car and who does what with the mill and paint work. I've talked to the guys who do that work in the shop. I feel good about our position, but I have to sit down and go through it and present our case and go from there.
Q: You believe the car was legal?
A: Yes. It ran every restrictor-plate race we raced last year and went to the R&D Center. So, it's only been painted since then. It's been seen an awful lot (by NASCAR). So I need to get down to why it was wrong this time and (why) it's OK the other times.
Q: Did crew chief Chad Knaus tell you there's nothing different about the car?
A: The guys who do the body work have told me that. Chad doesn't do that work. I talked to Chad, but I talked to the other guys, too. They've stated they absolutely didn't touch that area since it was built before the 2011 Daytona 500.(see full Q&A at the USA Today)(2-23-2012)

"I talked to Chad, but I talked to the other guys, too."

That's a very interesting statement.

So..... I gotta wonder. If it is illegal now and nothing has changed since running it prior, doesn't that mean that they just didn't get caught before? If it is legal, it's legal and nothing will come of this. If it's not, it's not and Chad will probably take a small vacation. Whatever..... Let's go racing!

It's so simple, it's complicated.

I still believe that a former HMS engineer told nascar a little secret.

So a couple of body hangers had a 'hold my beer' moment and came up with this all by themselves,,,huh?

I like it. That's the kind of black helicopter stuff that's needed on here.

It's reality dpk, and I think you know it. HMS lost some key people last year, people who know secrets. If their new team doesn't want to use that secret because they feel it's cheating the template, it's their duty to use HMS to get a ruling from NASCAR. Why would they go to the track knowing HMS has a questionable advantage and not do anything to level the field? NASCAR said it wasn't OK, and now nobody has the advantage.

I'm sure these cars are a product of the Hendrick engineering department . While Chad doesn't physically touch them , nor does he have time to watch their actual design and construction , noone is denying that he does (as crew chief) bear the ultimate responsibility for the final product.

That's why I would find it hard to believe that an aero advantage gets put on the car without Chad's OK. If what is being reported is correct, I feel that the 48 team was working within the rules and pushing things, just like they are paid to do. If NASCAR never specified a curve radius between the hard points, they left the door open to this king of thing.

Funny thing is, I think NASCAR did JJ a favor. With the larger plate, and higher speeds, JJ will need all the air on that smaller spoiler he can get.

I think that you are right . It was likely the engineering dept. working in a grey area . I'm sure that they must make some decisions on their own ,as does the engine dept. . Rick and Chad may be on a need to know basis on some of the nit picky stuff.

If the rules are being pushed, and as the CC you bear the pain if they go too far, wouldn't you DEMAND to know and decide yourself? Would a guy like Chad work that way?

I think that depends on whether anybody thought that the rules were being pushed .Hindsight is twenty twenty . It's easy for us to say that now , but every improvement that the engineers make in the engine dept or the body dept . could be construed as pushing the rules. AGAIN ..FINAL RESPONSIBILITY CHAD.
