What Were The Biggest NASCAR Surprises in 2017

That was ugly with C.E. Falk, not one of Larson's better moments IMO. I don't think Larson has been helping his case poor mouthing his DNF's either. I like Larson and I believe he will do well for a long time, but that isn't good PR on himself and his business. JMO.

Kyle has been racing 4 years and has 5 wins, Chase has 0 wins in 2 years. I have no doubt in my mind that he will have more than 5 wins in 4 years.

So are you saying dumping Falk was aggressive, I would say that was a stupid move and he just wrecked the guy.

If Larson was so aggressive why did he not past the 78 and 18?

You'd say that dumping Falk was stupid? LMAO, he dumped him in the final turn and won the race due to it. I guess aggressive to you is Denny Hambone dumping Chase at Martinsville:oops: and not winning.:D

JMO, but the only thing I can agree with in your post is that he'll do well for a long time.

Probably because there is huge difference between a Whelen race and Cup Championship race.

I have to say, Clint Bowyer not winning was a surprise too. I didn't buy into the "Bowyer will win multiple races" and "Bowyer will contend for the championship" stuff, but I thought he'd get a win.

Clint did well IMHO.

He had some good finishes and he was especially impressive at Bristol and would have won if it was not for Jimmie Mfing Johnson.

He's going to need to win if he wants to keep that seat because Cole Custer is going to move up after next year, I bet anyone on that.

The biggest for me were the following (ranked from biggest first):

1- Carl Edwards Retirement

2- The 22 not making the chase

3- Matt Kenseth not having a ride for 2018

4- The falloff of the 48 team
This
Martin Truex Junior
And I am adding this
I think the 48's struggles have to be the biggest surprise. 4 top 5's and 11 top 10's all season is pretty low.
And this as an honorable mention.

The numbers don't lie.

And then there's this too.....

Wow, it is like he is a better driver....

Stats from first two full seasons in Cup

Driver Races: Wins Top 5 Top 10 Laps led Average finish DNF Lead lap finish
Kyle Larson 71 0 10 27 168 14.4 9 (0 mechanical 51
Chase Elliott 72 0 27 38 916 11.0 6 (1 mechanical) 53

This year, yes. That is unless you use the KB Math and compare his 10 win season to MT's 8 win season. Then, there's still the matter of the 68lb hardware. I'm torn trying to decide who's better. :D

The biggest surprise for me was the dominance of MY TRD powered Toyotas after a start to the season filled with bull**** about how WE weren't winning. Think that there was even an article or two about how stupid Toyota was in introducing a new car after winning so much in '16.

What Were The Biggest NASCAR Surprises in 2017 v

5. Every non chase driver loosing 200HP at Homestead (except for Larson)

4. The 48 team falling on it's ass
3. Carl Edwards walking away at the last minute
2. Kligerman winning at Dega, (I like this kid)
and the # 1. Matt getting fired at JGR
