What's next for silly season?

So Bobby hurt himself in a bike accident. 3 Broken ribs. Won't race the 51 this weekend. Probably will be his last year now that I am thinking.

No my point was merely that a loose track didn't take him out, but rather he took himself out. Johnson was setting some of the fastest lap times if I recall, Labonte spun himself out running in the 20's or something. He just looks like a guy who's finished to me.

Johnson has sucked pretty bad the last few races. I doubt he is in any danger of losing his ride though.
 
why does everyone keep thinking labonte needs a ride, at this point, anyone the freaking hauler driver would do better.

He was in the teens when he spun, it doesn't matter. My point was spinning out occasionally doesn't mean anything. He could very well be done, we'll never know what he could do at this point if in quality equipment because he won't get that opportunity.

I remember a few yrs ago he said he was in his car on his way to sign a contract w/ EGR to drive the 1 car, but then Hall of Fame called and offered him the 96 which was fully sponsored, the 1 car was not at the time, so he said yes. If hindsight was 20/20, or even 20/40, he should have taken the 1 car.

He should go run the Truck series imo.

That could be said about a lot of drivers, many of which have never accomplished half of what Labonte has. The good thing is he had his opportunity and he won races and a championship.

I just can't imagine how difficult it must be for all the Labonte fans out there seeing him go out week after week and run in the back of the pack.

There are those of us that are certainly fans of the driver that Bobby was back in the late 90's and early 0's but those days are long gone. You certainly don't see many Labonte shirts in the stands these days.

It hurt a bit at first, but now I just go with it. I know he is better than what the 47 has to offer him, but if he never gets that chance in better equipment I understand. I just look for the little victories now like his top 3 run for part of Bristol last week, or his top 10 run he was having at Loudon a few weeks ago. He can run up front if given a car capable of getting there.

Bobby is still a very popular driver. Just last year he was voted into the All-star race.

Never said he wasn't popular. People simply aren't sporting the shirts these days. He's still a fan favorite just like many others. He will eventually fade into obscurity relativity unnoticed similar to his brother and many, many others before him. I don't think that we'll be subjected to the Bobby Labonte Retirement Tour.

Maybe Gibbs should hire Bobby to go part time in a 4th car to get it ready for a future full time ride. :)

No surprise, Aj was already scheduled to run more races than JTG initially said, plus he was doing all the testing for them. What bugs me is if JTG alligns w/ RCR, they finally get good equipment and Bobby gets bumped, do they really think their ****** chassis' and crappy Triad motors should be a top 15 or 20 team??
 
I don't know how much of a good deal this is for dinger, if I was him I would rather be in a top nationwide car, than a washed up mid pack car.

About the same as it was for DW's fans. At least Bobby was actually qualifying and not leaning on champion's provisional every week.

And I figured him to have a clear shot at the #78. I know which one I'd choose. Hopefully FR will make him an offer too.

have you been watching car counts lately?? pretty much everyone gets in the race if not its a team along the lines of the 95 team or brian keselowski. even danica could do that.

As much as I wish Martin would hang up the driving gloves, he can still wheel a car.

It will also be interesting to see where he goes next year. I don't really know where he could go on a part time deal, there doesn't seem to be much left. Maybe he hangs them up as well, but as you said he can still compete at a high level.
 
This has been a crazy silly season...all I can say is that it has really gone my way. I mean Dinger in a full time cup ride (rather see him in NW 22 though) Alliger to cup (likely) and Montoya out? FUK YES!
