Where Will Newman End Up?

I'm gonna be bold and say a patchwork season with RFR -- 10 or so races (depending on sponsorship) in the 6, then 15 or so races in the 16 NW car.

Because I don't think any big teams will scoop him up for the full season, and mid level teams (like RPM) are filled up. Sure RPM could release Ambrose, but I don't see that happening.

I just don't see newman at roush, it doesn't seem like the right fit over there. add to that roush seems to groom drivers from the start and work them up rather than hiring a veteran. so that leaves RCR, MWR Penske and furniture row. we know gibbs doesn't want a 4 th car that bad. further if they did one must conclude that the sponsorship would need to be on the better end of the scale, I don't see that happening. I think alot depends on where Kurt ends up, if RCR can get sponsorship for kurt I could see him going there. I wonder if MWR has expressed any interest in Kurt.

I think Kurt would be a good fit for for RCR so I wouldn't be surprised to see the 78 have a vacancy that could be filled by Newman.

It'd be nice if FRR could scrape up the funds for a second team. From what I remember, Newman and Busch got along well when they were teammates at Penske. It'd be cool to see a reunion.

"Ford's Jack Roush, who has a three-car operation that could easily expand back to four, said he was interested in talking with Newman about the future. Roush said he would be interested in hiring Newman if there were sufficient sponsorship"

I think everything depends on what happens with Kurt.

Maybe when they were teammates but when a guy speeds through your pitbox and you say he has a chemical imbalance, you may not be exactly friends. ;)

Like you guys have said, I think a lot of it depends on Kurt. If he stays at FRR (which I see happening) then Austin gets the 29 (renumbered 3) cup ride, and Ty takes Austin's old ride. If Kurt gets the 29, then I could see Ryan getting the 78.

Also I don't think MWR is very likely, as Brian Vickers is signed there for 2014, they would be a bonehead to release Clint, and as long as Martin Truex makes the chase, there isn't much reason to replace him.

How 'bout Newman going to Earnhardt Ganassi Racing, Richard Petty Motorsports, or JTG Daugherty Racing ?

To the best of my knowledge, none of the drivers on those teams are signed for 2014.

JTG you never know about, especially lately. Honestly I wouldn't be surprised if they fold, but if they carry on, then I think its either gonna be Labonte or Allmendinger.
RPM would be a bonehead to release Almirola (he's the best driver to race for the team since Kasey Kahne) and I don't see them ditching Ambrose. The one scenario in which there could be a open seat is if Almirola leaves, but sadly I think a lot of teams don't realize his talent.
EGR is a possibility though. Even though he's been kicking ass, Jamie Mac may be on the chopping block, which would leave room for Newman. I guess it depends on how he does in the second half of the season, though.

Newman or AJ to the new Finch/Hendrick team.

Hate to disagree with you about one of your guys, but I think Ambrose is the better driver than Almirola. Almirola has a higher potential ceiling, sure, but Ambrose is a proven winner in the series and a legitimate threat on road courses.

If he goes to EGR, I think Jamie loses his ride. Target is very happy with Juan. I think RPM needs a veteran nascar driver to get better as an organization, especially on ovals. They should keep Aric, because when their cars were good he was up front a lot. Ambrose needs to get with another organization that has a vet who can help him get better on ovals.

Here's a way out there scenario. Furniture Row signs Kurt long term and adds a second team with Newman driving. Wouldn't that make for some warm and fuzzy meetings.

If Newman isn't bringing Quicken with him , it lessens his chances of finding a good ride . I think he does have a good relationship with Bass Pro Shops (don't know ) ,so there may possibly be help there .

Amborse is much better than Almi on road course. Almirola is better everywhere else.

Quicken likes Newman, which may explain why he wasn't told at the beginning of the year that SHR wouldn't go to 4 teams to accommodate him. I bet SHR used that time to try and get Quicken on Harvicks car for 16 or 18 races.

My guess is he ends up in one of two places.

Scenario 1 is he takes the 78 ride after Kurt moves on to greener pastures, I suspect he'll likely end up at RCR don't know why but I just feel like that's where Kurt goes. I know they have guys lined up but I think Childress will make an offer to get Kurt, who undoubtedly is a top talent and would really help fill the void left by Harvick.

Scenario 2 is Chip Ganassi is fed up with the lack of performance and he turfs Jamie Mac and hires Newman on a 1 year deal for the 1 car, all the while keeping the seat warm for Larson. I think Chip has him on a fast track to Cup. So he hires Newman to see if they can improve their performance, he does well they extend him another year, if he flops then they bring up Larson as soon as 2015

Given Kurts' history of imploding at any given time I don't see Childress signing him, granted he is talented as hell, but just don't see it as a good fit.

If I were an owner, I'd stay away from Newman. He's been underperforming since 2006 and he won't do any better with a new team. He's currently in a contract year and in Hendrick equipment. He should be getting at least a couple wins a year and competing for a Chase spot. Instead, he's racing David Gilliland on a weekly basis. Maybe he can get a good Nationwide ride. I don't see him getting a quality Cup ride next year though. Austin Dillon's probably going to win the Nationwide championship and get the #29 next year. Furniture Row likely won't expand. Vickers has the #55. Roush would put Trevor Bayne in the #6 before Newman if sponsorship came up. Gibbs probably won't expand to a fourth team. McMurray and Montoya will likely stay in their rides. Maybe he can drive full-time in the Nationwide series next season or something like that, because as of now I see his options being backmarker teams.

Well it is certainly a lengthy history haha, I just think Childress will get desperate and bring him in. He would instantly give them a legitimate title contender for 2014, which as of right now I don't believe they have.

My roommate told me he read that Montoya is out and Larson will be in the 42 next year..Don't know the source but that could shake things up.

Yeah, the kid needs at least two years in Nationwide before he goes Cup. There's a few Cup guys that haven't signed a 2014 seat yet. I don't think Montoya will ever get the hang of stock cars.
